About this audiobook

In New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ captivating romance, a lass targeted by an unknown foe is saved—and seduced—by a bold Highlander

Edith Drummond owes her life to Niels Buchanan and his brothers. Waking after an illness to a castle overrun by rugged Highlanders is disconcerting, but so is learning that she’s slowly being poisoned. Niels insists on staying by her side, and Edith soon discovers that even more dangerous is her wild attraction to the fierce warrior.

Niels has never met a more courageous—or enticing—woman than Lady Edith. The idea of such a bonny lass being forced to enter a nunnery is more than any red-blooded Scotsman could bear. He’ll gladly marry her himself. But while sweeping her off her feet is easy, it’ll take all his skill to defeat her family’s relentless enemies, and convince her to surrender to his sweet embrace. . . .

I do so love the Highlander series by author Lynsay Sands! There is something about the Buchanan family that is quite enjoyable. All the brothers are powerful and have a code of honor that would any woman swoon with delight. Their sister, Saidh, is also quite the feisty little hellcat. In Surrender to the Highlander, Saidh was concerned for her friend Edith Drummond. Saidh had tried repeatedly to get in contact with her friend to no avail. Fed up with no answers, Saidh was ready to get on her horse and go to Drummond herself to check on her friend. Her husband Greer MacDonnell though, was extremely against that idea given that his wife was four months pregnant with possible twins. Not only was her husband against Saidh going, so too were her brothers. Though they all tried to talk her out of it, she was too concerned about her friend to listen to reason. As a compromise Saidh’s brothers, Rory, Alick, Niels, and Geordie, promised to go check on Edith and make sure she was okay in place of Saidh. That way they could see how Edith fared but that their sister would stay put and not risk herself or her unborn. The brothers weren’t thrilled about this task, especially Niels, but they knew that their stubborn sister would not rest until she knew what has been keeping her friend from sending word as to her welfare. When the brothers got to Drummond they quickly realized that the situation was dire. They learned that Edith was barely alive and no one knew what the cause of her illness was, just that it had affected others in her family and that she has been battling the illness for several weeks and they did not expect her to be alive much longer. Despite not wanting to be there the brothers knew that they needed to be there. Rory was a great healer and had to at least try and see if there was anything he could do to help Edith. To do anything less would not be the Buchanan way, not to mention that their sister would never forgive them if they did not at least try.Luckily Rory was able to help Edith from passing away and she grew stronger with each passing day. Also with each passing day Niels attraction to Edith grew. Niels knew that this fiery woman was compassionate, resourceful, and everything he never knew that he wanted in a woman. Now all he had to do was convince Edith that she wanted him too. What Niels did not realize though was that Edith was going to need little convincing. All the Buchanan men were incredibly attractive but there were many things about Niels that attracted Edith beyond his amazing good looks. Together Edith and Niels would explore their growing attraction but they would also follow the clues to determine who was responsible for making Edith and her family sick in the first place.Surrender to the Highlander is the fifth book in the Highlander series and it was just as an enjoyable read as the previous four! I love the positive sibling relationships as well as at the banter that occurs between the brothers. They may joke and squabble at each other, as well as use the foulest language, but they are also very honorable men and they will always do what is right. Love these characters! Edith was also a memorable character and the romance that develops between her and Niels was very swoon worthy. There is mystery, danger, seduction, and action in Surrender to the Highlander and it is also a book I highly recommend! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Edelweiss+. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.

I have read most of Lynsay's books and am a huge fan, this one was my least favorite, not that I didn't enjoy but again not my favorite. I hope you are starting from the beginning with these Highland brides the characters or mention of them are thru out the series and I loved them from the very beginning. In this one we get to see another Buchanan brother meet and fall in love with one of Saidh's (Buchanan sister and character in the Highlander takes a bride) and fell in love with this family. Someone was killing off Edith's family, and you think it is one person when it turns out to be the least likely..Enjoy!

I just don’t care for LS’s writing. The characters are under developed and the plot lines are weak. Additionally, towards the end, Edith blames another character for her having went to sleep with a man when she was 12, and the man was much older. I know this is set historically, but it was written in the modern age, and we know today that 12 year olds can’t give consent, so Edith essentially blamed this woman for her sexual assault. Not a fan.

So far, this is the best written of Lyndsay Sands books I've consumed. They're generally enjoyable, and happily mostly give them 3 stars. But I dunno, the plot was just a bit tighter and characters had a little more depth.

Ok, this was a re-read for me as I have read this book before. When I started reading this series this year, I knew I had read about the Buchanan siblings but was not sure which one, until I got to this one. This was an amazing story and some parts were truly hilarious. It’s amazing how people blame others for their actions when they had opportunities to make choices and kept making the wrong ones smh! No spoilers from me, you need to read the book to understand but I am sure you will not regret it. Lovely story

This is the 5th book in the series, but, as with most romances, you don't really miss anything if you haven't read the earlier books.

Edith and Niels are great characters, both as a couple and individually. I liked her take-charge attitude and his caring for her.

There's a mystery in this story, and I think it's handled well, though I sort of had it figured out before the end. That didn't spoil my enjoyment of it at all.

I won this book in a Smart Bitches, Trashy Books blog giveaway, and I'm very thankful for it.

Good book with Lynsay Sands' trademark humor. The Buchanan brothers stopped to see their sister Saidh (The Highlander Takes a Bride) where they discovered their very pregnant sister about to attempt a visit to a friend. Saidh hadn't heard from her friend Edith in some time, and she was worried. It didn't take long for Saidh to convince her brothers to make the trip for her. They did not expect to arrive and find that Edith's father and two of her brothers were dead, and Edith herself at death's door. The opening chapters of the book were a terrific setup for the story. In the prologue, the brothers' love for and protectiveness of their sister was evident in their decision to help her. I had to laugh at some of their comments, which were not taken well by Saidh. I chuckled at Niels' belief that he had traded an arduous journey for one that would be much more pleasant, as I was certain that he was in for a surprise. I was proved right as their arrival at Drummond did not go as expected. The determination and protectiveness of the Buchanan brothers were evident from the start as they talked their way into the keep. It didn't take long for Rory to discover that Edith had been poisoned and for all of them to take steps to protect her. There was a connection between Niels and Edith from the moment they met. It was embarrassing for Edith, who fell as she tried to get out of bed after regaining consciousness. I loved Niels' gentleness as he filled her in on what had happened. There was something about her that made him want to take care of her. Of all the Buchanan brothers, Edith thought that Niels was the most compelling. He is also the bossiest of them all, and he soon appointed himself as Edith's guardian. When he wasn't with her, she couldn't go anywhere without a brother or two or guards watching over her. That forced proximity soon gave them both other things to think about.I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Niels and Edith. At first, it was the physical attraction that drew their attention. There were several steamy scenes as those feelings sometimes overcame common sense. The more time they spent together, the more they noticed other things about each other. Edith was especially moved by Niels' kindness to young Ronson, though she was a little dismayed by the brothers' influence on the boy's vocabulary. It didn't take long for Edith to realize that Niels' could be the answer to her prayers. Niels is attracted to Edith's fierce loyalty to her people, and her down-to-earth treatment of them. Circumstances hastened the marriage that both thought about, and I loved seeing them together. Though it ended prematurely, their wedding night was hilarious, thanks to third-hand advice that Edith received from her maid. The interactions between Niels and Edith both in and out of bed showed how important it was to each of them to make each other happy. It took a little while for both of them to see that what they felt was love, even though it was obvious to those around them. I liked the ending and look forward to seeing more of them in later books. The mystery of the poisonings and who has it in for the Drummond family was very well done. Each new attack created more questions instead of bringing them closer to a resolution. It seemed that every time a suspect was considered, something happened to knock them off the list. There were so many twists and turns that it was no wonder that they had trouble. I loved that it was Edith and her knowledge of her people who put all the puzzle pieces together to reach an unexpected conclusion. The final confrontation was intense, with Edith facing the murderer alone. I loved Edith's strength in protecting herself and loved seeing her call out the killer for their motivations.

Edith Drummond wakes from a long illness to discover her father and brothers are dead and she has been close to death also. Her younger brother has fled the castle with his bride so they don't get sick also. Luckily her heavily pregnant friend Saidh has been worried and sent her brothers to check on Edith. While there, Niels Buchanan and his brothers uncover a plot to poison Edith and her family and must guard her night and day until the murderer can be found. Niels is intrigued by Lady Edith and vows to keep her safe as she takes responsibility for Drummond and the people who live there. Edith is also mightily impressed by Niels.... nice easy to read romance.
