About this audiobook

Bridging the past and present in three time periods—the French Revolution, World War II, and present day—The Lost Castle is an enchanting, interwoven story of three resilient women connected by a storybook castle that stands witness to their lives.

1789: Aveline Saint-Moreau is a wealthy and beautiful young aristocrat preparing for her betrothal to the Duc et Vivay’s heir Philippe, but the French Revolution looms as the Bastille is stormed in Paris.

1944: Viola Hart is a Resistance fighter in France during World War II, desperately trying to root out the evil taking hold in her country as the Nazis occupy France.

Present day: Ellie Carver is in a race against time to deliver a decades-overdue message as her grandmother fades into the shadows of Alzheimer’s. Embarking on a journey to France’s Loire Valley, Ellie can only hope to unearth the secrets of the mysterious castle before time silences them forever.

As Ellie’s journey unfolds, so too do the journeys of the two other women, each of their stories woven together through their connection with the forgotten French castle—a castle that plays a part in saving each one of them.

With tales of loves won and lost, battles waged in the hearts of men, and a legacy of faith spanning generations, The Lost Castle is a sweeping story of three strong women making history.

The book deals with a subject a lot of people don't want to talk about. It still a taboo subject tomany. The author tell of rape, and rape survivors. The truth is most victims know their rape attackers.Closer to home then you think. Also the victims don't want to talk about it. We meet Maggie the main character and learn of her traumatic story. She has been a victim of gang rape when serving in the military and the lose of her young son. She has just returned to her job as a National Park Ranger. We see her dealing and learning to trust people around her.We also will see the side of a serial rapist in how he thinks things out and how he picks his victims. He shows himself as a good friend to his victim. The all out good guy.The story will keep you in suspense and thinking you know who did it, but do you really. Rape is a horde crime that that a human does to another human. Leaving the victim in fear and mental anguish. The author did a good job with information and handled the story well.

The author took a fictional story that spanned generations and made it come alive. Her main characters had in common their perseverance and the inclination to put self aside to look out for the greater good. "The story we're writing in this life is a gift from God and we can't afford to waste a moment of it." So true.

This is the story of how one woman found more than she ventured out to discover about her family, her history, and herself.

Ellie was a determined young woman set on delivering some semblance of peace to her ailing grandmother, while taking the first step on a journey she never knew was intended for her. The places she sees, the people she meets, the connections she makes, all create a spectacular backdrop for a story that will steal your heart. The long forgotten castle adds a certain air of mystery. The family working the surrounding lands brings a palpable heart to the seemingly silenced emotional landscape. The forbidden nature of it all creates the challenge from which Ellie will not back down from, eventually granting her more than simply access, but a kinship of sorts with all that's transpired. It was wonderful following the ladies, both past and present, down the roads of their fated futures, and seeing the strength of character they possessed in times that were more than earthshattering, but heart quaking.

In the end, it was a grand adventure with spectacular views, a magnanimous leading lady no matter the time period she may be in, and journey of the heart you won't soon forget. For me, the hardest part was keeping the stories straight. Don't get me wrong, each stands on its own two feet with its own feisty (if unexpected) heroine (of a sort) and a remarkable tale to tell that ends up connecting throughout the span of lifetimes, but in the moment, things would get a bit fuzzy...eventually though, things fell into place. Take a chance on waking this sleeping beauty and get whisked away by all the stories she can tell...

The beginning captured my attention, the middle was a little slow, but then the last 1/3 picked up again and kept me at the edge of my seat. I loved the connections between the three time periods: French Revolution, WWII, and present day. And the twists and surprises were magnificent. I think the plot was written very well.

"The Lost Castle" was such a lovely story and I couldn't put it down once I started it. Three parallel stories revolve around a mysterious castle and vineyard tucked away in France's beautiful Loire Valley. I loved all the descriptions of the castle and its surrounds, and could easily imagine the beauty of the area. It took a while to separate the three stories, but the author was a capable storyteller and I was soon involved i the intrigues, family dramas, excitement and romances that were taking place over the different time periods. Each of the leading female protagonists were feisty, strong and heroic. I particularly loved Aveline, an aristocrat who was in hiding during the French Revolution, and Vi, who found herself hiding from the Nazis. Both their stories were filled with drama, devastation and tension. The story of present day Ellie lacked the excitement of the other two, but I enjoyed following her race against time as she tried to solve her beloved grandmother's secrets before she lost her forever."The Lost Castle" is my favourite sort of book. An historical read with romance, adventure, suspense and poetic descriptions. The three storylines blended beautifully together bringing both heartache and happiness to this reader. A touching read.

This was a very sweet book and a welcome change from the angst and drama of the recent books I've read. The only thing that bugged me was the story of Quinn (i.e. why is he Irish and not from France or was he from France and moved to Ireland?). I would have appreciated some back story there. Otherwise, it was three good stories wrapped into one.

I finished this book with mixed feelings. I was expecting a riveting novel that would be difficult to put down given the high ratings. I actually found it to be a little confusing with how it went back and forth between the three time periods (I have read many novels with this type of story line but this one just left me somewhat confused). I kept trying to figure out if there was a connection between the characters. Maybe it was due to an amazing story I just read so this one was a let down.

Title: The Lost CastleAuthor: Kristy CambronPages: 371Year: 2018Publisher: Thomas NelsonMy rating is 5 out of 5.Ellie Carver is running out of time. Her grandmother has dementia and her health is declining quickly. She seems to be waiting for something though. Ellie finds an old photograph from WWII tucked in a favorite book of her grandmother’s. The photo leads Ellie to take a trip to France to research the photo to find out her grandmother’s history and bring closure to her. Once in France, Ellie discovers an entirely different way of life. There are ruins of a castle near to the manor house where Ellie is staying that seem to draw her. Quinn, the grandson of the house’s owner, is her tour guide, but refuses to take her to the castle ruins. Why?Lady Vi is fluent in several languages and she joins a British underground spy organization during WWII. She is sent undercover to Germany to work as a secretary, translating documents. She is entrusted by a fellow agent with critical information that needs to be gotten to Great Britain that might turn the tide of the war. On her journey, she encounters members of the French Resistance who reside near a castle.Readers also will discover the history of the castle during the French Revolution, which presents another story of a woman searching for her place in life. Aveline is the 19-year-old daughter of a French Baron, who has an arranged marriage to the oldest son of a duke. Tragedy strikes in the form of a peasant mob uprising on the evening of her engagement ball with devastating results. Aveline now wonders what her life will be like, but is also determined to survive and thrive.Kristy Cambron deftly uses the technique of flashback to tell a poignant, romantic tale that spans times from the French Revolution, WWII to the present day. With vivid descriptions, I felt I was right in the midst of WWII fighting with the French Resistance. Each of the three plots are woven together seamlessly to form a complete tale that will enrapture readers. I read the book in a day as I was so in tune with the story that all else fell to the wayside. I also liked Kristy sharing her inspiration for the story and how she came to write it. I eagerly look forward to her next book. I urge readers to get a copy of the novel for themselves and get lost in a tale of romance with a touch of mystery.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. In 1789 Aveline was all set to marry the Duc et Viyant's eldest son as arranged by her parents, but her engagement ball was interrupted by the French Revolution and she escaped with a little help. She is now living on the Viyant's estate and recuperating from severe burns, being attended to by a former maidservant and none other than Robert, the youngest Viyant son. He's disappointed in his father and brother as they fled from the attack scene, leaving family and guests to fend for themselves. Aveline is unused to hard labor but wants to be of assistance, but Robert is afraid she may be outed and attacked by participants in the Revolution. His goals are to preserve the Viyant's vineyards, help as many people as possible, and protect Aveline. In 1943/1944, Viola is attempting to escape the Nazis in France. She is a British citizen and had been sent to France to spy on the Nazis. She and several other women were slated for execution but she was able to escape into the French countryside before she is "rescued" by Julian and the French Resistance. Present day France and Viola's granddaughter Ellie is trying to unravel the mysterious past her grandmother presented to her. She's not sure what she'll find at the lost castle, but she's determined to go there anyway and has a local guide helping her out. Three different women in three different times but only one thing ties them together, the lost castle. Their lives have been changed forever yet all find love in the same place. Is it the castle or something more that ties them all together? The Lost Castle is three intertwined stories set in one rural French locale. All three stories are told in flashback mode and that took me awhile to get used to, because we might be in Viola's story in 1944 in one chapter and then back to 1941 in another. The contemporary storyline is the only one that has a linear presentation. As a result of the constantly changing storyline (three different stories remember) and the changing timelines within those storylines, I found this to be a bit of a slower read than normal for me. Of course, that might also have been the gradually increasing migraine headache... I actually enjoyed reading The Lost Castle once I got used to the shifting storylines and all of the characters. There's a lot of action going on in this story, the build-up to the French Revolution, the Revolution itself, and then the aftermath in Aveline's storyline. In Viola's storyline we have World War II from 1941 through 1944 in both England and France. The contemporary storyline with Ellie presents her storyline and brings all three lines together (no, I'm not going to tell you how, read the book). For those of you that enjoy reading historical fiction blended with contemporary fiction, I recommend you read The Lost Castle. For those of you that simply enjoy reading complex romance stories, then again I recommend you read The Lost Castle.

“The Lost Castle” by Kristy Cambron is one of those rare books that I am still thinking about days after I've finished reading it! I had heard so many good things about this author, so when I saw she was writing a story centered on a ruined castle I had to read it! I love castles—my wedding took place in a castle-like building and my dream vacation was to Scotland to see castles, of course!"The Lost Castle" by Kristy Cambron is the first in the "Lost Castle" series. The beginning immediately draws the reader in with questions and enchantment. Ms. Cambron wows with breathtaking settings and landscapes. She has an eye for detail and includes lavish descriptions of the setting and food (I became very hungry while reading this book!). The reader is transported from a castle ball, to revolutionary Paris, to French vineyards, to a French chateau and back to present day. There are three different stories going on in this novel, all set in different time periods. It is a bit confusing at times keeping all the storylines and characters straight at first, but by the end Ms. Cambron does an amazing job of weaving all the stories together. The ending is so amazing, with many plot twists and surprises!Ms. Cambron presents a story that points to the ultimate Story. She shows us through these tales that life is a story we are writing and a gift from God which we cannot waste. We must live each moment to the fullest because we are never guaranteed tomorrow!Content: This is a clean read. I would give it a PG rating for some violence related to war and a few other things. Some examples are: references to a "dame" and a woman being a "kept" woman, violence related to war, mention of a man drinking himself to death, and a man assesses a woman's figure.Rating: I give this book 5 stars.Genre: Christian Fiction; Historical; Romance; Multiple Timelines I want to thank Kristy Cambron, NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the complimentary copy of this book for review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I express in this review are my own. This is in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s CFR 16, Part 255.
