About this audiobook
Location scout and Jane Austen aficionado, Kate Sharp, is thrilled when the company she works for lands the job of finding locations for a new film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, but then her boss, Kevin, fails to return from a scouting trip to England. Kate travels to England to salvage Kevin's and the company's reputation before word gets out that he is missing.
Things go from bad to worse when Kate arrives in Nether Woodsmoor, a quaint village of golden stone cottages and rolling green hills, only to find no trace of Kevin except his abandoned luggage. Even the rumpled, easygoing local scout they consulted, Alex, doesn't know where Kevin might be.
Increasingly worried about Kevin and with an antsy director waiting for updates about the preproduction details, Kate embarks on a search that includes a pub-crawl and cozy cottages as well as stately country manors. But Kevin remains missing, and she begins to suspect that the picturesque village and beautiful countryside may not be as idyllic as they seem.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I would have liked the book but the audio version had many skips and missing places
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Engaging. An enjoyable mystery with some well-drawn characters and very effective descriptions of the quintessential English countryside and village in Derbyshire. As smooth and relaxing a story as the author's High Society Lady Detective series. Great pandemic reading!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kate Sharp lives in L.A. and is a location scout. She is happy when the company she works for is employed to look for locations in England for a new Pride and Prejudice film.
Unfortunately her boss Keven disappears just hours before his flight back to L.A.
But with the help of a local location scout Alex, she seeks to find the murderer.
Not too difficult to determine the murderer. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5England, present-day, cozy mysteryGood plot that completely held my interest til the end. Interesting characters and beautiful descriptives are icing on the top!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Death in the English Countryside is the first book in the Murder on Location series by Sara Rosett. Kate Sharp is a movie location scout in Hollywood. Her boss, Kevin, has been in England scouting out locations for a feature film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. When he fails to return, Kate is sent to England to see what happened to him. Their company, Premier Locations, is in a precarious situation, so she must keep his disappearance discreet and find him quickly. What she finds is his luggage without any trace of his film equipment. Thinking Kevin may be on a bender (past history) she begins a search of the local pubs and encounters local scout, Alex, who had worked with Kevin and is equally puzzled over his disappearance. Together Kate and Alex continue to search. They find Kevin’s rental car in a river and his body is found not much farther upstream. Kate is determined to learn who killed her boss and friend and prevent her and Alex from being suspects. This is a nice start to a cozy mystery series rambling around England. The location scout premise is new and interesting. Jane Austen and Pride & Prejudice play a part, but it’s slight and fits the story. There are a number of suspects and some exciting moments when Kate finds herself in danger. If the story at times veered off into unlikely situations, that’s what cozies do. They are about engaging characters doing interesting things and getting into dangerous situations we would never put ourselves into, and this story fits very nicely into that mold. Alex is delightful, very easy-going and comfortable to be with, and provides the hint of possible romance to come. The investigation provided a lot of clues and motives. The English countryside is enchanting.I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review. Death in the English Countryside is actually the perfect kind of story for an audiobook. It moves smoothly along and is easy to follow. The narration is pleasant and doesn’t detract from the story itself, which is very important to me. This is a charming start to the series and I recommend it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I think it was a decent first read but the mystery was pretty simple though. I pretty much had it figured out from very early on. I also thought there was alot of fluff when the story really needed more actual sub-plots.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really loved this book. It was a really good read. It made my desire to live in a small English village even stronger. The slower pace and peaceful surroundings are extremely appealing to me. The intrigue was just enough with out go overboard and no so complicated you couldn't keep track or so simple you figure it out long before the conclusion. I will continue to follow the adventures of Kate Sharp. Really great book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Death in the English Countryside by Sara Rosett is a delightful cozy mystery. It is the first murder in the Murder on Location series. Kate Sharp works for Premier Locations in Hollywood as a location scout. She is also a Jane Austen aficionado thanks to her degree in English Literature. Her boss, Kevin has been in England scouting out locations for a feature film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice. He never made it home. Kate is sent to England by Marci, Premier Locations office manager, to see what happened to Kevin (and make sure he is not on a bender). After arriving in Nether Woodsmoor (Kevin's last location), Kate connects up with Alex Norcutt, a local location scout, who was working with Kevin. Kate finds Kevin, but he is not alive. Kate is determined to find out who killed her boss and friend. Kate with the help of Alex follows the clues to find out who killed her friend. Death in the English Countryside is well written and a joy to read. I give it 4.25 out of 5 stars. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I definitely enjoyed this book - it is a promising start to a new series by this author. While I haven't read her 'Mom Zone' series yet, I might try it out soon. This book made a wonderful introduction for this author for me. I wasn't sure how the storyline would work but the plot flowed rather nicely. I liked the Austen references and I really enjoyed the scattered movie location scouting info. The lead characters were easy to like and I hope to see their relationship blossom into something more as the series progresses. The descriptions of the English countryside made me want to jump the pond and visit this beautiful, albeit fictional, place. I was thrilled to find that the guilty party was exactly who I thought it was and even for the reasons I imagined - I always feel so SMRT when I figure things out early on. (I know, it's petty & smug, but there you have it.) I think this would have been even better if I had re-read some of my old Austen books or at least watched one of the many movie versions since my Pride & Prejudice was a bit rusty. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series to see if the author will incorporate different authors of the classic literature I enjoy or if she's going to stick to just the female fan favorite Jane.I received this book from the publisher and the Early Reviewers Program on Library Thing. No compensation for my review was given.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I liked this book. It combined a modern mystery with references to the classic Pride and Prejudice. Lovely setting, believable characters, a hint of potential romance. Enjoy!
