About this audiobook

From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes an unforgettable audiobook about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances.

Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment.

In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity, and who sees her like no one has seen her before. Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.

How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best—a masterpiece of an audiobook that is both hopeful and hilarious; truthful and wise; tender and brave.

Uplifting and inspiring story. Would’ve got a 4 if the ‘Scottish’ accent didn’t make me want to throw the phone at the wall! ?

This book didn’t candy coat what it’s like for your life to change due to becoming paralyzed but it made it accessible as well. It was a very human story and I very much enjoyed and sometimes felt great pain for the characters.

This book brought back memories of me being the sister whose brother became paralyzed. Your research and descriptions were spot on. I would like to make one request though. Please do not have your characters use God's name in vain. Some things should be sacred. I hope your publisher does not require that of you. That would be a shame. You are a very talented writer and can add emphasis to a bad situation in other creative ways. Thank you for your consideration in this request.

Agree with other readers regarding the bad Scots accent but otherwise the narration was well done. Loved the story and the way the author spun it.

A well written light romance. Couldn’t put it down. Several curse words I could have done without.

Thoroughly enjoyed the story, but the narrator has the singularly worst Scottish accent I have heard from anyone who has ever been paid to do one. It sounds like bad Russian with an occasional hint of cockney at very best. It was dire.

If I’d had the time, I’d have read the paperback rather than suffer through that narration. It’s okay for a bit part, but if a main character has an accent is should be a prerequisite that the narrator can actually pull off the accent!

I really liked some aspects of this book. But the "villains" (ex boyfriend and his mom) and heroine's sister were written over the top comical. And while I understand the heroine suffered a life altering injury, she was incredibly self-centered. Also, certain threads were just dropped, and the ending
was totally unbelievable. Kudos to the author for her description of the plane crash and heroine's hospital stay.

This was heartbreaking and funny and adorable all at the same time. I can't pick a favorite between How to Walk Away and The Bodyguard, but Katherine Center writes some amazing female empowerment stories.

The ending was both expected and unexpected. To move forward and walk away from a life long changing tragedy, thank you for the ending. Great read and also great audible book to listen to.

Unfortunatelly had to stop listening to it after chapter one due to narrator's theatrical manerism.

The story was heartwarming, and though a bit predictable at times it’s great for a quick uplifting read.

The book was simple, expected and straight forward. It seems it lacked ‘deepness’ however it was easy enough to follow, and had some good descriptions of situations the heroine was in.

I thought the narration was excellent, unlike some other listeners. The final chapter completed the book so well. I read as little as possible about a book, before reading it. I want to form my own conclusions.

Heartbreaking & so touching ❤️ the way maggie faced everything she lost, the way she handled the pressure, the way the pain was described ?? and Kitty is just a total different story & if she represents something she represents a true meaning of family!!

Great narration, it really brought this story to life. Margaret has just been proposed to in a plane that her fiancé Chip is flying when something goes terribly wrong and they crash. Margaret finds herself questioning if Chip is the right person for her as he is nowhere to be found when she needs him most. This story shows how strength comes from within and sometimes change can be the thing you never knew you needed.
