About this audiobook

"This is simply one of the nastiest and most disturbing thrillers I've read in years. In short: I loved it, right down to the utterly chilling final line." —Gillian Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Gone Girl

A spellbinding, darkly twisted audiobook about desire and obsession, and the complicated lines between truth and perception, Our Kind of Cruelty introduces Araminta Hall, a chilling new voice in psychological suspense.

This is a love story. Mike’s love story.

Mike Hayes fought his way out of a brutal childhood and into a quiet, if lonely life, before he met Verity Metcalf. V taught him about love, and in return, Mike has dedicated his life to making her happy. He’s found the perfect home, the perfect job, he’s sculpted himself into the physical ideal V has always wanted. He knows they’ll be blissfully happy together.

It doesn’t matter that she hasn’t been returning his emails or phone calls.
It doesn’t matter that she says she’s marrying Angus.

It’s all just part of the secret game they used to play. If Mike watches V closely, he’ll see the signs. If he keeps track of her every move he’ll know just when to come to her rescue…

That was the biggest waste of my time. I was engaged the entire book up until the terrible ending, I loved the creepy detail and the clear delusions. But the whole story I was waiting for a twist or at least another point of view. I got to end and quickly realized this was a big waste of time. I gave three stars because the idea was interesting and did like the beginning but that was the crappiest ending ever.

I expected more of a twist at the end.
Well written but kind of boring. Predictable.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved that it ended in a way I didn't expect. The plot was enjoyable. At times I actually shook my head at the main character. Which, in my opinion makes the story good because I felt like the author pulled me into the story. I do like thrillers and crime novels. And there have been plenty that I have stopped listening to either because the story stunk or the narrator did. But, I found that I wanted to listen to see how the story ended and I was not disappointed. The narrator did a fantastic job as well. Very articulate and had great expression. I liked how he didn't try to fake the other voices from the other characters.

This was an ok book. I was waiting for a big reveal but at some point you catch onto what's happening. The details were great, it's just the storyline could've had a tad ....more

This grabbed your attention and held it through out. Also the writing was crisp and clear like a good white wine.
