About this audiobook
Why Were the Teachings of the Original Christians Brutally Suppressed by the Roman Church?
- Because they portray Jesus and Mary Magdalene as mythic figures based on the Pagan Godman and Goddess
- Because they show that the gospel story is a spiritual allegory encapsulating a profound philosophy that leads to mythical enlightenment
- Because they have the power to turn the world inside out and transform life into an exploration of consciousness
Drawing on modern scholarship, the authors of the international bestseller The Jesus Mysteries decode the secret teachings of the original Christians for the first time in almost two millennia and theorize about who the original Christians really were and what they actually taught. In addition, the book explores the many myths of Jesus and the Goddess and unlocks the lost secret teachings of Christian mysticism, which promise happiness and immortality to those who attain the state of Gnosis, or enlightenment. This daring and controversial book recovers the ancient wisdom of the original Christians and demonstrates its relevance to us today.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy have masterfully assembled all the pieces this philosopher’s heart has been painstakingly trying to put together for three years! If you are tired of religion and want to understand who God really is and what this life is all about, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK!
I have studied the scriptures in depth for more than 15 years and for the past three years I have been studying other ancient texts. “Jesus and the Lost Goddess” synthesizes these hard hitting concepts deftly, making them simple to understand, yet still incredibly profound.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is extremely well researched and eye opening. Introduces the concept of Literalists (those who take their religious text as a literal history book) vs Gnostics (those who follow a more accepting, philosophical, meditative approach). Literalists cause all the holy wars and persecution, while Gnostics seek actual truth and enlightenment.
I can see this pissing a lot of Literalists off, as, quote, "Literalists use their religion to sustain personal and cultural identity by defining themselves in opposition to others. This inevitably leads to disputes with those outside their particular cult... literalist enmity also extends to gnostics within their own tradition who question their bigotry."
I'm thinking that was the issue with a previous review. ?4 people found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have asked family members and others to please read for years to no avail, so here we go again...please read! I first read the book years ago and own the other 2 in the series as well as their Hermetica and Islam card set. Mostly from memory, it's been years since I read this all the way through. The best teaching gleaned... That we all see through the same eyes of God. Diagram - God as a large circle, humanity as little circles contained within looking out. Therefore we all see throught the same eyes. The king, the beggar are all equal in the eyes of God. When we look out through those eyes and see the beggar on the streets, we see ourself looking back. We are that person, they are us... giving us a rational for the golden rule. The essence of the Gnostic Christian message in a nutshell. Great book!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Excellent read for those who are open-minded to explore the possibility that modern day Christianity is not the whole story of Christianity.
