- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Captivated beginning to end!! Did not see that coming!! Love this!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a beautiful story, with some heartbreaking twists! Loved it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sweet, gripping, emotional. Excellent writing and narration. I didn’t want to miss a single word. Bravo.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's a very interesting book but a bit forced. It's difficult to write a review without spoilers. What I can say is, that I couldn't quite understand why Katherine let everything get so dramatic. I think every other person would have gotten help much earlier. The female narrator was very good. The male narrator not so much.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I could not put this book down! And when I was done reading I wanted to read it again after the unexpected ending!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I enjoyed this read. Some great twists. Some of it was pretty predictable but overall there was a lot of sweetness and suspense that made it a worthwhile listen.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was really good! At times it felt unnecessarily long; I think the fact that it was an audiobook made the flat parts more bearable. I loved Elliot’s love for Catherine and it was what kept me going till the end. I totally recommend it, it’s definitely a roller coaster of emotions
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I don’t know if the “great twist” at the end is worth the exasperation I felt with the main character since the middle of the story. It’s a good plot about a cute and romantic first love, but I think the author just stalled the story since the middle for the “grand finale”. It leaves me questioning if the main character is not as perverse as her mother, choosing to cover a delinquent, ruin the love of her life’s future and making a mess of him to protect her sick mother. Even when she sees all the little clues that something is wrong… I don’t know. I don’t think I like her. She’s not sweet if she’s ruining other lives and make herself the victim. If you ask me, at the end I feel everyone has a little pathological problem there and I’m not sure the main female character is sweet as they try to depict her in the story. Especially when she puts people through a lot to cover he mother’s doings and she wanting to keep living like a victim “protecting” her mother (especially when she’s to be an adult soon), without letting her mother get real help. I mean the story is really interesting, keeps you hanging till the middle, where it just felt like “stalling” the obvious. In my opinion, It would have been more interesting to know a little more about her grandparents or what her father did to control her, to make the story richer.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good solid story about first love, mental illness, family, small town, bullying, and racism. The mystery about what's happening at that creepy house pretty much what pulled me in and with the added local tragedy mystery, completely engrossed all my attention.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jamie McGuire is an author I hadn’t previously read, and now I’m looking forward to reading some more of her works. All the Little Lights is a love story and a mystery all rolled into one. Elliott Youngblood falls head over heels in love with Catherine Calhoun the second he sees her. It doesn’t matter that he’s only eleven or that she’s sobbing at the base of a tree while her dad buries the deceased family dog, Goobers. From that moment on, Elliott just wants to be with Catherine. She is equally enchanted with him which is why she is completely heartbroken when, near the end of the summer, he up and disappears. Many years later Elliott returns to Oak Creek and discovers that there are many changes - the most serious being with Catherine, who spends an outrageous amount of time helping her mom run a bed and breakfast called the Junioer house and who is not interested in renewing their friendship. Elliott is nothing if not persistent and soon wins Catherine’s friendship back. There is however some kind of mystery surrounding the Juniper house and Catherine refuses to let anyone in on the secret. If she doesn’t do something about the dangers of living at the Juniper house, she could end up dead.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Catherine and Elliott become friends one summer as children, but a tragedy tears them apart. When Elliott returns in high school, he wants to resume their friendship but Catherine isn't sure. Her life is a mess with a secret she can't tell anyone. This is more of a thriller than a romance though I also thought it slow reading. It takes a while to get to the crux of things and the ending is telegraphed if the reader pays attention.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I absolutely love Jamie McGuire so I am not sure why it took me so long to pick this one up. I picked up the other new release that came out and it was disappointing, so I was hopeful that this would be get back to the reasons why I love her storytelling…and it did! This started off introducing both Elliot and Catherine. You learn a little about their childhoods and their family life. Both are dealing with some issues at home and they start up a friendship. Then something tragic happens, and Elliot is not able to be there for Catherine. This does deal with domestic violence and emotional abuse. It also deals with mental health. The first 100 pages were so good. The middle was a little repetitive. I liked the mystery around what was happening in the Juniper. I actually did not know this was going to turn into a mystery. It really was not the focus of most of the story and does not really start to come together until over 200 pages into the story. I really liked what it brought to the story in the end.Overall, I enjoyed this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5All The Little LightsByJamie McGuireWhat it's all about...Catherine and Elliot meet when they are young...Catherine lives in a small Oklahoma town while Elliot spends summers there with his Aunt Leigh. Both have family issues while growing up. Catherine has secrets...major secrets. Elliot has vowed to be her protector. Catherine is a tortured soul...Elliot is the high school football star that everyone loves until something horrible happens and Elliot is blamed. Why I wanted to read it...This book was the story of Catherine and Elliot but it was also much more. It was about prejudice and mental illness and learning that sometimes secrets are more harmful than what they hide. What made me truly enjoy this book...This was a page turner of a book. The story was tragic yet beautiful. The writing was lovely. The high school scenes were real. Catherine was a lost soul fiercely trying to save her home and her mother. Elliot was her savior but when he was out of control he was frightening. Why you should read it, too...Readers who love this kind reality in an incredibly put together story will love this book. I received an advance reader’s copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley and Amazon. It was my choice to read it and review it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Holy crap!! This book started out as a tender love story between two teenagers. That was pretty much all that I was expecting. Well, that was only part of it. A large part of the book (maybe just a little too large) as a matter of fact. However, there is an underlying danger that is hinted at. A hint that is exposed in bits and parts of the book. It's so slight. I had an idea of what was going on, so I thought. I was so far out in left field and I absolutely loved that I was wrong. So wrong!!! My jaw dropped when I discovered how far off I was on this danger! It was like "Yowza, no frigging way was I expecting that!"And, there is absolutely no way any reader who reads this review or starts reading the book is going to guess the ending. That's just how well the book is written. I promise you will not see it coming!I found this book interesting, complex and unputdownable! I am so glad that I discovered this book and got the chance to read it.Thanks to Montlake Romance and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.
