About this audiobook

A battle of wills between mother and daughter reveals the frailty and falsehood of familial bonds in award-winning playwright and filmmaker Zoje Stage’s tense audiobook of psychological suspense, Baby Teeth.

Afflicted with a chronic debilitating condition, Suzette Jensen knew having children would wreak havoc on her already fragile body. Nevertheless, she brought Hanna into the world, pleased and proud to start a family with her husband Alex. Estranged from her own mother, Suzette is determined to raise her beautiful daughter with the love, care, and support she was denied.

But Hanna proves to be a difficult child. Now seven-years-old, she has yet to utter a word, despite being able to read and write. Defiant and anti-social, she refuses to behave in kindergarten classes, forcing Suzette to homeschool her. Resentful of her mother’s rules and attentions, Hanna lashes out in anger, becoming more aggressive every day. The only time Hanna is truly happy is when she’s with her father. To Alex, she’s willful and precocious but otherwise the perfect little girl, doing what she’s told.

Suzette knows her clever and manipulative daughter doesn’t love her. She can see the hatred and jealousy in her eyes. And as Hanna’s subtle acts of cruelty threaten to tear her and Alex apart, Suzette fears her very life may be in grave danger…

Great story. But the Swedish accent wasn't that good. It kept throwing me off.

To be fair, I wasn’t sure exactly what the book was about before I started it. I generally find books about bad seeds or evil children to be a little too far fetched. This kid hates her mother to the point she wants and is willing to murder her but the mother is never shown to have done anything that bad to warrant such hatred. I just found it unbelievable. I did like the writing and the alternating perspectives of Suzette me Hanna. Just not my cup of tea.

I enjoyed this book. I listened to it while driving and actually drove slower so I could find out what happens next. A couple of things I wasn’t too keen on: Suzette is too passive. She just lets things happen instead of taking action. Now I know that’s all tied up in her personal history but it’s hard to believe that Hanna would exhibit these traits as early as 2 or 3, and the parents wouldn’t have consulted a professional sooner. And Alex is oblivious to both his wife’s unhappiness and his daughter’s behavior, and I wanted to smack him. The ending is a little too pat, too. But ironically some of those things are what makes this a good book-I felt invested enough in the characters to have an opinion about them.

A nice creepy read! One of every parent's worst nightmares!

I found the relationships between the characters to be very realistic. You are able to care for each character including the little girl.

Definitely a page turner. A good thriller I'd suggest to anyone who enjoys this genre!

    Holy shit…
Think We Need to Talk About Kevin, The Orphan, and The Good Son, but a 7 year old girl.
A mom, with some serious medical issues, is finding herself on the being tormented by her daughter. But, of course, no one believes that such a sweet little Angel could ever do any harm to anyone - let alone her own mother!
But how little we know of the human psyche, who are we say when anyone is “normal” by looks alone? Not knowing what drives the hatred in her baby, she tries to find a way out of the hell that has become her life.
Who will survive? Who will overcome? Who will Daddy choose??

It was okay, kind of weird. The ending was eh. I stayed interested throughout the book and I liked the plot.

I feel like if it didn’t end that way I would have enjoyed it a bit more. I feel like i didn’t get closure lol.

Loved the book - and then it ended and we have no clue why we even listen to the beginning of it because the ending didn't give us any closing!
