- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Didn’t realize it was part of a series until I thought to look it up half way through. Interesting concept for a protagonist, but there’s just no depth to the characters. I also felt lost 70% of the time because, while you can read it as a stand alone, I wouldn’t recommend it. Too many callbacks and inferences to previous installments to try and understand it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Kendra Michaels, formerly blind and now a hired gun for law enforcement agencies who relies on her razor-sharp powers of observation, is reluctant to help the FBI with the most recent case they’ve brought to her. But then she hears the details: the body was found just blocks away from Kendra’s condo. The young woman was carrying an envelope with Kendra’s name on it, and inside was an SD card with what appears to be an innocuous video of a wedding reception. The woman died trying to get the video to Kendra, but for what purpose? Before Kendra and the FBI can answer that question, the bride is abducted from her suburban home. And so the hunt is on for a killer whose nightmarish plan is slowly becoming clear. A plan that involves a powerful law firm and a multi-billion dollar corporation. As the body count rises, Kendra joins forces with private investigator Jessie Mercado and agent-for-hire Adam Lynch to stop the plot as it grows ever closer to its terrifying conclusion.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5If you are a fan of Iris Johansen, you will enjoy this story. If you have read any of the Kendra Michaels books, this is another suspenseful story involving her well-honed senses that she developed while she was blind and trained after her successful stem cell surgery. There is not as much of her life dealing with music therapy in this book, which I missed. Once again, Michael Griffin, Special Agent in charge of the San Diego FBI office, draws Kendra into a case involving dead and missing women. A woman has purposely run into traffic and been killed a few blocks from Kendra’s home. The police have found an envelope containing a memory stick with Kendra’s name on it. Luckily she has Lynch, the man called upon by governments or their agencies for special jobs. Lynch stays at Kendra’s side while she is consulting on this case. As usual, she becomes a target from the psychopath that she and the FBI are trying to find.
Jessie Mercado, a private detective and friend to Kendra, also makes an appearance to help Kendra with some surveillance. Olivia, Kendra's best friend is also important to the story in both the hero and victim role. The women in this story are strong, smart, have amazing skills, are determined and close to fearless. They are also loyal to one another and their true friends. The pacing and plot kept me turning the pages to see what was going to happen next. I am finding that these books are still enjoyable, but not necessarily as heart pounding as they were when I started reading them. The writing and story are still good, it is my interest that is waning somewhat. This is a series that does not have to be read in order, but as characters have been added to it, it will help you understand about the relationships if you do. The publisher, St. Martin's Press, provided me with a copy of this book to read. The opinions stated are my own. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oh my… another winner from Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen. I started the Kendra Michaels series about 2 books back and have not been able to pass up reading them. They are books that I know will entertain, keep my attention, and make me think while reading them. With Double Blind we find Kendra pulled into another FBI investigation where someone is targeting guests at a wedding. A video of the wedding is given to Kendra and that is her only clue to start the investigation. While it was never really shared how Kendra had anything to do with the wedding, I came to the conclusion that her reputation was the reason that she was given the video with the assumption that her amazing skills to solve crimes would be put to use. Of course, this is exactly what Kendra does. The crime part was interesting and I can easily see how it will feed into future books in this series but what I really enjoyed was the relationship between Kendra and Lynch. They circled each other, pushed each other, and never really confessed their feelings. I feel like they trust and like each other a lot but they don’t know how to open their hearts and lives to allow them to accept each other in their everyday lives. Double Blind’s ending set it up for there to be much more to come for these wonderful characters and I am excited to see where it will lead.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kendra Michaels reluctantly agrees to assist the FBI with an unusual case and learns that the victim was carrying an envelope addressed to her. Inside, she finds a flash drive with a recording of a wedding reception. But she knows none of the people; she sees nothing that she recognizes. Before Kendra and the FBI can figure out why the video was so important to the woman carrying it, the bride’s abduction sets in motion a hunt for a ruthless, depraved killer somehow involved in a plan involving a multi-billion dollar corporation. As the body count rises, can Kendra stop what’s been set in motion before it costs her everything?Strong characters and a twisting plot with unpredictable reveals build suspense and keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The unfolding narrative often takes an unexpected turn, keeping tension high and building suspense. While the story concludes in a satisfactory manner, the ending clearly leads to the next book in this series.Highly recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kendra was born blind & it enhanced her other senses. A miraculous stem cell operation gave her sight but she didn’t lose those enhanced senses. Kendra is on the trail of a serial killer. She was brought into the case when one of the victims was found close to Kendra’s condo, with an envelope with her address in her pocket. This book was another terrific thriller. The plot was fast moving & the action was intense. The interactions between the characters give the plot dimension & strength. There is an element of romance that adds emotional depth. I enjoy this series with Kendra, Lynch & the others.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Kendra Michaels is back and is helping the FBI because a woman was shot and run over trying to get a SD card to her. The card had a video of a wedding reception. But Kendra doesn’t know who the victim nor the people in the video are. When the bride from the video is abducted and murdered, the hunt for the killer goes into high gear.Along with Kendra, Jesse Mercado and Adam Lynch are back to assist. This is an energy packed thriller which kept me enthralled. I loved the interaction between the characters, although the sexual tension between Kendra and Adam was getting to be too much. All in all, though, I couldn’t put the book down and finished in one day!
