About this audiobook

"With delicate intimacy, author Rebecca Serle narrates a story that involves a surrealist dinner party and reflections on a decade of love and heartache...magic and emotive undertones make this audiobook bewitching." — AudioFile Magazine

This program is read by the author.

“We’ve been waiting for an hour.” That’s what Audrey says. She states it with a little bit of an edge, her words just bordering on cursive. That’s the thing I think first. Not: Audrey Hepburn is at my birthday dinner, but Audrey Hepburn is annoyed.”

At one point or another, we’ve all been asked to name five people, living or dead, with whom we’d like to have dinner. Why do we choose the people we do? And what if that dinner was to actually happen? These are the questions Rebecca Serle contends with in her utterly captivating audiobook, The Dinner List.

When Sabrina arrives at her thirtieth birthday dinner she finds at the table not just her best friend, but also three significant people from her past, and well, Audrey Hepburn. As the appetizers are served, wine poured, and dinner table conversation begins, it becomes clear that there’s a reason these six people have been gathered together.

Delicious but never indulgent, sweet with just the right amount of bitter, The Dinner List is a romance for our times. Bon appetit.

Praise for The Dinner List:

“It’s Serle’s unflinching investigation into the triumph and failings of love that makes this book one of a kind. A touch magic, a touch tragic, and absolutely compelling from beginning to end.” — Stephanie Danler, New York Times bestselling author of Sweetbitter

I sincerely hated this book. Like couldn’t even finish hated it. The premise sounds great and I found the two least prominent characters to be the most interesting. The narrator wasn’t my favorite voice but I think she was the best for the book because I hated the main character so much.

Everyone has had the question posed to them as to whom they would want to have at their dinner, whether they be alive or dead. This is so perfect to be able to actually see this wish come to life and makes the reader think about what theirs could be like if they were so lucky to get the same opportunity. So many things can be assumed by the people that are chosen and that is such an amazing thing to ponder both for the reader to Sabrina, as well as the reader when they think of who they would pick. I think I will end up changing my mind on who I will pick because of what happens with Sabrina's birthday dinner. My dad died yesterday and I think I needed to read this now. It gave me the approval to be angry at what he missed out on by not being there and I can still be able to forgive him for me. This book is such a great way to look at life, being an adult and forgiving yourself.

It’s a compelling story worth listening until the end. In my opinion this story deserved a better narrator, the voice can be quite annoying and distracting in the beginning.
