    Com o naufrágio do navio onde Gulliver seguia. Após o naufrágio ele foi arrastado para uma ilha chamada Lilliput. Os habitantes desta ilha, que eram extremamente pequenos, estavam constantemente em guerra por futilidades.

    Foi através dos lilliputianos que Swift demonstrou a realidade inglesa e francesa da época. Em contraposição, na terra de Gigantes é que Gulliver percebe a Dimensão da mediocridade da sociedade inglesa diante da "grandesa" dos habitantes. Na segunda parte, Gulliver conheceu Brobdingnag.

    Em contraposição a Liliput, na terra de Gigantes é que Gulliver percebe a Dimensão da mediocridade da sociedade inglesa diante da "grandesa" dos habitantes. Já na terceira parte na ilha Flutuante de Laputa, Swift criticou a Royal Society, a administração inglesa na Irlanda e a imortalidade, através da descrição dos habitantes dos países por onde Gulliver passou, com alienados cientistas, é uma feroz crítica ao pensamento cientifico que não traz benefícios para a humanidade.

    Jonathan Swift

    Jonathan Swift was born in Dublin in 1667. Although he spent most of his childhood in Ireland, he considered himself English, and, aged twenty-one, moved to England, where he found employment as secretary to the diplomat Sir William Temple. On Temple's death in 1699, Swift returned to Dublin to pursue a career in the Church. By this time he was also publishing in a variety of genres, and between 1704 and 1729 he produced a string of brilliant satires, of which Gulliver's Travels is the best known. Between 1713 and 1742 he was Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin; he was buried there when he died in 1745.
