About this audiobook

From #1 bestselling mystery author Blake Pierce comes a new masterpiece of psychological suspense.

Keri Locke, Missing Persons Detective in the Homicide division of the LAPD, remains haunted by the abduction of her own daughter, years before, never found. Still obsessed with finding her, Keri buries her grief the only way she knows how: by throwing herself into the cases of missing persons in Los Angeles.

A routine phone call from a worried mother of a high-schooler, only two hours missing, should be ignored. Yet something about the mother’s voice strikes a chord, and Keri decides to investigate.

What she finds shocks her. The missing daughter—of a prominent senator—was hiding secrets no one knew. When all evidence points to a runaway, Keri is ordered off the case. And yet, despite pressure from her superiors, from the media, despite all trails going cold, the brilliant and obsessed Keri refuses to let it go. She knows she has but 48 hours if she has any chance of bringing this girl back alive.

A dark psychological thriller with heart-pounding suspense, A Trace of Death marks the debut of a riveting series—and a beloved new character—that will leave you listening late into the night.

The story line was good. But, and its a big “but”, a Southern California story ready in cockney and other British accents made it ridiculous. Made it very hard to really enjoy the writing and the writer’s intent. I would like to listen to more from this author but I’m afraid of the same experience.

Why the hell is the narrator of this book English accented? It's set in California, and all the characters HAVE ENGLISH ACCENTS. It's so confusing and wrong, which does not in any way help the book, which is decent enough modern pulp detective fiction.

I am really enjoying Blake Pierce’s novels! It’s a bit distracting to have a British accent with American settings and mispronounced words on occasion, but keep those audiobooks coming! ?

I had never heard of this author. It sounded good so I got the audiobook. The story is set in the Los Angeles area and the detective is LAPD but the audiobook reader is British and there's no explanation for it. It totally didn't work for me. The story was pretty preposterous as well; a rogue LAPD detective would never have been allowed to continue business like that.

Real amateur writing. The author obviously knows nothing about police/legal procedures. The emotionally disturbed main character repeatedly loses her composure, committing assault after assault, which is supposed to pass for police work. Also, none of the supposed clues she uncovers actually lead to the conclusion of the story. Very simple plot, badly written, a BIG waste of time.

Book not based in England. Queens English? Why? Great book but it’s in LA. Hard to believe everyone speaking Queens English.

I liked the story. It was entertaining enough and the characters were well-developed. The only problem? It felt like the narrator yelled/screamed half the dialogue which became pretty distracting.

Could easily have rated this book a 5 star had the narrator not had a British accent. Tough thinking LAPD folks although

The biggest to problems with this book are it has a lot of plot holes and is very unbelievable. Second, the main character is the kind of person who should not be allowed to be a police officer. The main characters actions were both stupid and disturbing, making her very easy to hate.

I liked the audio book. I would have given a 5 star, but it seems strange the narrator had a British accent when the location was Los Angeles, California. The narrator did an excellent job though.

Like others, I agree the story is not bad, characters are well developed for the most part. But didn't care for the use of a British narrator.

Very rarely do I rate a book on the narrator; I figure that is subjective. However, very rarely can I not even listen through the first chapter. This narration is that rarity. Holy heck!! How can it possibly be that bad? Listening actually hurt my ears. I cannot even put my finger on the exact problem; it's just from the gate aural discord. May be a good story but I won’t find out in audio form.

The story itself is amazing. Love the characters and the plot.

But while Ms. Wise is an excellent narrator, her British Accent, and British English pronunciations for characters from the Los Angeles region of the US is a distraction from the story.

The book was intriguing, most characters were well developed, and the story moved along at a great pace. My only problem was the introduction of a few “surprise” characters that were “off plot.” The narration was good, except that a British voice narrating all characters in a Southern California setting really bothered me.

A great story, but for gods sake have someone who knows how to pronounce the correct inflections like Cerritos, Santa Clarita, and some others. If this is it in Southern California, why does everybody have an English accent? The reader was great, nothing wrong it just seems really jarring to have a listen to some thing about Santa Clarita and have somebody called Santa ClAir-it’s...

Listened to the end, but only to see if it could improve! The storyline was too far fetched, the 'writing's was dodgy to say the least and the narrator was simply awful. I can normally read/listen to most things and find at least one good thing to say, but this was truly awful...so many hours I'll never get back, but at least it made me laugh and kept me wondering if it could get any worse!

This was a decent book, but the narrator was terrible. She has an English accent, which does not go with the story at all. I had a hard time concentrating on the story at times because of the narrator's voice.

Great story but the British narration for a story that takes place in California was confusing. All the characters sounded like they belonged on “the other side of the pond.” There were decidedly British terms like referring to someone as “mum.” My spouse is from Southern California and all of the characters sounded out of place. I love a British accent and actually prefer it but it was distracting due to the setting.
