About this audiobook
Midnight and dawn, Elena's wings are unique among angelkind-and now they are failing. The first mortal to be turned into an immortal in angelic memory, she's regressing. Becoming more and more human. Easier to hurt. Easier to kill.
Elena and Raphael must unearth the reason for the regression before Elena falls out of the sky. Yet even as they fight a furious battle for Elena's very survival, violent forces are gathering across the world. In China, the Archangel Favashi is showing the first signs of madness. In New York, a mysterious sinkhole filled with lava swallows a man whole. In Africa, torrential monsoon rains flood rolling deserts. And in Elena's mind, whispers a haunting voice that isn't her own.
This time, survival may not be possible . . . not even for the consort of an archangel.
Contains mature themes.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Interesting. Lots of action that kept me interested throughout. There are some aspects of the book this is confusing/unclear. But I am sure it will be further explored in later books
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I swear if I have to wait another two years for the next in this series, I will be pissed.
It was a filler book to set up what comes next. The story lacked real suspense because it was clear from the beginning what was happening. The only thing that was interesting was the last chapter but when it ended on a total cliffhanger I was pissed. Think the ending of Twilight Breaking Dawn 1 where Bella wakes up and all you see is her eye, then cut to black. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5
Oh, I have so many mixed feelings about this book. I don’t think I had such diversified feelings about any other book in this series. As always with this series I’m enchanted with the story but, on the other hand, I wish it is a totally different tell and I truly dislike the ending.
I’m one of those people who hoped for Aodhan and Illium story. I’m waiting for it. However, till this time there was no trace that their relationship is anything but friendship. We all assumed that there can be something more and I like it this way. However, in this book there is a small hint that there can be in fact something more to it. And I’m not sure how I feel about it. If we are about to wait another and another book for Illium and Aodhan story, I think I would prefer to be still on the square one. Sluggish reveal of the concepts and leaving us with some allusions is just more frustrating.
Another thing is the general plotline of this book. I didn’t find it as interesting as I used to. I like the main idea of the vampire killer but let’s be honest, we have already seen that. The connection between Elena and Cassandra is a great thing (this thing with owls – excellent concept), I wish it was permanent. Elena shading feathers is probably the most interesting part of this book. That’s why I’m disappointed with the ending and the lack of answers. I hate cliffhangers and this one I find rather unnecessary and upsetting.
Also, is it just me or Elena becomes softer, especially in her relationship with Raphael. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about talking about your feelings and love. But she used to be such a strong, kickass heroine and this soft spot of her is quite new to me. She is more emotional than she used to be.
So yeah, for once I love this book as all the others in this series but on the other hand I wish it was just something else sometimes. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This episode in the Guild Hunter series (book 11) is more intimate than the last few. Lijuan is supposed to be in Sleep, though there is some question about how deep her Sleep is and if she is still influencing events in China. Favashi, who took over China when Lijuan left, is doing some things that don't seem like her, including massing an army on her border. The angels are also still dealing with the various Cascades which have been causing new, and probably dangerous, talents to appear. The Cascades are also causing physical things to happen like a volcanic sinkhole in a place that never had volcanic activity before and torrential rains in the Sahara desert. The Cascade also seems to be affecting Elena. She seems to be regressing; her wings are drooping and feathers are falling out; she's constantly hungry yet still losing weight; she's losing her ability to talk mind-to-mind with Raphael. While this is all going on and the doctors are baffled, she is also dealing with an attack on her vampire brother-in-law and the recent deaths of other vampires in the Quarter. Elena is also hearing a voice in her head that is spouting prophecy and that says she will have to die so that another can live. As the other things the voice has prophesied begin coming true Elena is determined to fight for her own destiny and not the one foretold in the misty past. She and Raphael are going to fight this together with all the resources they have. This was a very exciting entry into the Guild Hunter series. I loved the relationship between Elena and Raphael. The story was emotionally intense. I couldn't put it down. The ending has me begging for the next Guild Hunter book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow. So much happens in this book and it is all so important to further the story! I loved it! It ends in a pretty drastic cliffhanger, and there was a LOT of backlash about this. I was perhaps one of the few who thought the entire thing was perfect. I've just finished re-reading this and I love it just as much. Though it IS much easier to stomach the cliffhanger since I have Archangel's War at the ready!

This book has Elena back as the POV character and is pivotal in the overall story arc of the series. It seems that Elena is losing her angelic abilities. No one knows why this is happening, but Elena can hear a voice in her head whispering pieces of a mostly forgotten prophecy. And then there is more of the Cascade effects that is affecting the rest of the world. The ending is a cliffhanger for a change instead of wrapping up what happens in this book.
Digital review copy provided by the publisher through NetGalley - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another wonderful book from Nalini Singh. Elena suffers from a degradation of angelic abilities while hunting down a man who attacked and threatened her brother in law. The ending is full of suprises and may leave you with more questions than answers. Looking forward to the next book.
