About this audiobook

USA TODAY BESTSELLER

In the vein of Big Little Lies and Reconstructing Amelia comes an “atmospheric, absorbing page-turner” (Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author) about a mother unraveling the truth behind how her daughter became brain dead. And pregnant.

A search for the truth. A lifetime of lies.

In the small hours of the morning, Abi Knight is startled awake by the phone call no mother ever wants to get: her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen off a bridge. Not only is Olivia brain dead, she’s pregnant and must remain on life support to keep her baby alive. And then Abi sees the angry bruises circling Olivia’s wrists.

When the police unexpectedly rule Olivia’s fall an accident, Abi decides to find out what really happened that night. Heartbroken and grieving, she unravels the threads of her daughter’s life. Was Olivia’s fall an accident? Or something far more sinister?

In this “complex, emotionally intense first novel” (Publishers Weekly), USA TODAY bestselling author Christina McDonald weaves a suspenseful and heartwrenching tale of hidden relationships, devastating lies, and the power of a mother’s love. With flashbacks of Olivia’s own resolve to uncover family secrets, this taut and poignant novel asks: how well do you know your children? And how well do they know you?

A little predictable, and there are definitely some plot holes. The romantic parts read like a preteen writing fan fiction. Overall a good story though.
The voices were terrible. I couldn’t stand the “Derek” and “Tyler” fake deep voices, they made me cringe. Also, I lost count of how many words were mispronounced by the speakers.

The story was decent but the over-enunciation of the narrators and the strange mismatched accents between the two, who were supposed to be mother and daughter, was very distracting.

I chose to listen to this because it had so many good reviews but I couldn’t finish it. The writing is bad, the narrators are bad, the story is not interesting. I’m not really all that picky with thrillers I don’t think, so I cannot recommend this to anyone.

The fact that I couldn’t finish it and it skipped forward frequently while I was listening.

It’s not a bad book. It was fine, but not amazing. Predictable and dramatic most of the time -and I don’t usually like that kind of story -, but overall is an entertaining book.

Incredible book that doesn't give anything away and keeps you guessing.

Good story line, however I felt the enunciation by the reader during the character conversation was a bit odd. Nobody pauses in-between words when they talk like this narrator did. I had to speed it up so it didn't annoy me. It did drag on a bit sometimes, but overall I enjoyed it.

I liked this book. I didn't love it. I found it rather predictable but enjoyed the story just the same. Don't go looking for any major twists or hard to figure out endings here people, because this is not it.

Abby is an overprotective single mother, caring for her people-pleasing teenage daughter, Olivia. One night, Abby receives a phone call that is dreaded by mothers across the world. Olivia has fallen from a bridge and is essentially brain dead. But that's not it folks...Olivia is pregnant. And the story goes on from there.

There are the usual suspects - The best friend, the ex-boyfriend, the new boyfriend, etc. and a couple of others that I won't spoil for you. I did find many of the characters were cliche, but the story was told in a rather simple, straightforward way.

Liked the story! The narrator for Abby was too robotic.

Over-use of adjectives, hunter green eyes don't exist. YA maybe.

predictable & both the mother & the best friend are annoying & bitchy. the expositions are repetitive & the ending is tedious.
Also i don't see how an illegitimate daughter from a CONSENSUAL relationship BEFORE marriage can ruin a politician's career? this is no 80s. Also a republican senate in Seattle? be real.
Strangely my favorite character is the other, neurotic daughter; she is the most interesting & sympathetic character.

The story, although heartbreaking, leaves the reader with a feeling of hope , that, even in death, love triumphs. Beautifully written , the author reveals in depth the various characters to the reader . We feel the joys, sorrows, indecisions and love of Abby and Olivia. Not always an easy read, I loved the book.

** spoiler alert ** The story of Olivia and her untimely demise was a great story. The storyline moved along at a good pace and was enough to keep you interested until the end of the book. The characters were well developed and it was easy to relate to their feelings of hurt, confusion, mistrust, and anguish. The end of the book nearly had me in tears. Overall a great read.

This is a good book, definitely brought tears to my eyes at the end. Even though I kinda knew who pushed her off the bridge, the story was very heartbreaking and beautiful. I highly recommend it

I am going to finish listening to this book but this is a rough one.
The writer will go overboard with over explaining every situation and the narrators voice is so lackluster. ...
I AM TORTURING MYSELF LISTENING TO THE REST OF THIS BOOK. 2 stars

Ohhhh pretty much every character in this book is annoying. Yeahhhh... I'm not going to finish this book.

I just couldn’t stop reading! This is just one of those book that’s a sure page turner but slowly because there is so much emotion, fear, anger, rage and heartbreak. I gave this book a 5 Star rating and if I could’ve gone higher it would’ve been. To the author I say,”Bravo to a well written novel!”

I love when I'm wrong about who dun it. This was easy to listen to and keeps you changing your mind about who pushed Oliva off the bridge. It's a great story about a moms fierce determination to find justice for her daughter. It's so well written. I loved it.

I really enjoyed this book. I found it while browsing through titles and figured, what the heck? It kept me guessing until the end, but had no big surprises. Both narrators had great voices, but one mispronounced quite a few words and it was aggravating. She said that a man had a Seattle "MARINE-ERS" cap on and pronounced Puget Sound incorrectly. I fear I am doomed to think of "MARINE-ERS", everytime I see the team name, for life!
