About this audiobook

A #1 New York Times bestseller!

“A rip-roaring adventure merged with satisfying romance.” —Entertainment Weekly
“[A] swashbuckling launch to the Eldest Curses series.” —Publishers Weekly

From #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestseller Cassandra Clare and award-winner Wesley Chu comes the first book in a new series full of “swoon-worthy romance [and] abundant action” (Publishers Weekly). The Red Scrolls of Magic is a Shadowhunters novel.

All Magnus Bane wanted was a vacation—a lavish trip across Europe with Alec Lightwood, the Shadowhunter who against all odds is finally his boyfriend. But as soon as the pair settles in Paris, an old friend arrives with news about a demon-worshipping cult called the Crimson Hand that is bent on causing chaos around the world. A cult that was apparently founded by Magnus himself. Years ago. As a joke.

Now Magnus and Alec must race across Europe to track down the Crimson Hand before the cult can cause any more damage. Demons are now dogging their every step, and it is becoming harder to tell friend from foe. As their quest for answers becomes increasingly dire, Magnus and Alec will have to trust each other more than ever—even if it means revealing the secrets they’ve both been keeping.

How I wanted to love this! I wanted more than a few chuckles at the flirtatious banter these two fools have going on throughout the book. The story is predictable as to who the villain really is and how everything pans out, the whole Aline/Helen relationship meet-up deserved more than a cheap lust-at-first-sight. Raphael’s snarky remarks, though… I’d missed that!
Enjoyable, but ultimately forgettable. I guess not even Magnus can rekindle my newly lost interest in the Shadowhunter universe.

I am usually very stingy with giving 5*, but this book delivered! It is everything my Malec-loving heart could have wished for, a perfect mix of adventurous travel story, magic, and romantic moments. A very happy place in the sometimes quite dark and angsty Shadowverse.

I enjoyed this book. I liked getting added information about events that I know happened. I really wanted to love this as much as the others but I’m just not as attached to Malec as much as the other characters. I enjoy their commentary and what they add to the world Cassandra Clare has created.

I have a few issues with this book. People that Alec should know, he doesn’t. Characters that died in the battle, are still alive. It confuses me and takes me out of the story when I get irritated hearing incorrect info.

This book was absolutely everything I needed. Magnus Bane is my favorite character and I loved seeing his relationship with Alec in this book. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.

This was set after the first war, and there were a lot of feels going back so far. Any mention of Tessa, Jem, or Will always gets to me. I did enjoy the story and the beginning of these character's relationships.

Excellent audiobook, fabulous narration. Magnus and Alec in the new days of love and distractions are everywhere.

Warlock Magnus Bane, is on vacation in Paris with his boyfriend, Shadowhunter, Alec Lightwood, when they discover that a demon-worshiping cult, actually founded by Magnus as a joke, is causing around the world chaos. The pair must stop the cult, hounded by demons and not sure who is friend or foe. Whilst I think this book is a promising start in an exciting series and can appeal to adults, it is a teen read and I found myself not into it as much as I would have liked. The book leaves the reader eagerly waiting for book 2 though!
