About this audiobook

A New York Times bestseller!

“A bewitching gem...I absolutely loved every moment of this story.” —Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Caraval series
“If you loved the Hogwarts Library…you’ll be right at home at Summershall.” —Katherine Arden, New York Times bestselling author of The Bear and the Nightingale

From the New York Times bestselling author of An Enchantment of Ravens comes an “enthralling adventure” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) about an apprentice at a magical library who must battle a powerful sorcerer to save her kingdom.

All sorcerers are evil. Elisabeth has known that as long as she has known anything. Raised as a foundling in one of Austermeer’s Great Libraries, Elisabeth has grown up among the tools of sorcery—magical grimoires that whisper on shelves and rattle beneath iron chains. If provoked, they transform into grotesque monsters of ink and leather.

Then an act of sabotage releases the library’s most dangerous grimoire, and Elisabeth is implicated in the crime. With no one to turn to but her sworn enemy, the sorcerer Nathaniel Thorn, and his mysterious demonic servant, she finds herself entangled in a centuries-old conspiracy. Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.

As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

I'm not a fan of books that start up in the middle of something important but this book was amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it laughing and enjoying it all. I need a different ending because I gotta know!!!

I really enjoy Margaret Rogerson. I would most certainly listen to or read more books from all of her worlds (this, Vespertine and Enchantment of Ravens). I hope we get another book of adventures with Elizabeth, and Nathaniel!

Started out OK but I couldn't make it through the cliche meet-cute before I was over the "romance" and looked for something else. I enjoy romantic aspects but I also enjoy originality and not turning women into bumbling idiots just because they meet a cute guy.

I immediately wanted to restart listening to the whole thing. A lovely, standalone fantasy towards the magic of books and libraries and the magic found inside

This was definitely a fun, fast read! The characters were interesting, the plot was fast, and the setting was fascinating (great libraries inhabited by demonic books? Sign me up!).. I have a feeling, however, that this book is the first in a series which — in my opinion — is very unnecessary. Not every book needs to head a series!

If you’re into YA fantasies & are looking for a good time, look no further!

This was definitely a YA novel that was written more for readers just out of middle grade novels. This book was cute, with a mature heroine who often found herself in trouble.

This book was okay. I think the main reason I didn’t love it was the audiobook. I found it hard to keep track of who was who. This had a strong start but let me know in the ending. It moved much faster than I could have wanted.

A completely forgettable novel. I found a lack of investment into the characters due to lack of description.
