About this audiobook

In the dead of night, Josie Bates is ripped from sleep by the sounds of an epic storm raging over Hermosa Beach and a man beating on her door begging her to help Billy Zuni who is drowning in the raging sea. She arrives at the shore just in time to see the teenager pulled from the water, battered and near death. Ready to kill Billy's selfish, neglectful mother, Josie rushes to the Zuni house only to find someone has beaten her to it. Two men lie dead downstairs and Billy's mother clings to life on the floor above. Spurred on by Hannah's fear that Billy will be framed for the murders, Josie takes up his defense. But Billy is evasive, physical evidence points to his guilt, and the county counsel wants him committed to the state. With the clock ticking, Archer and Josie set out to find the mysterious man who can vouch for Billy's whereabouts at the time of the murders. What they find instead is a web of intrigue and deceit that stretches halfway around the world and an eyewitness who is blinded by a justice Josie cannot understand.

To be honest I struggled to get into this book. There were a few times I almost gave up. It was the frustration of not knowing what was going on that got me, it was like I was reading two different books. I'm pleased I persisted as once I found out what was going on it all sort of made sense in a way and when I eventually got hooked I had to read to the end to find out how everything turned out. However, I don't think the technique of writing two different stories in alternate chapters quite worked. The stories were so different, not even taking place in the same country or the same era, and until they eventually merged and overlapped, it was just too confusing. The neatly wrapped up ending was also a little unsatisfying, as if it was written just to set up a sequel. All in all it was an okay read, but nothing to do a happy dance about.

Rebecca Forster not only draws you in with the suspense of this book but also the characters that become so real. Rebecca Forster is the best. She always chooses the path you wouldn't. This was a great adventure wrapped up in suspense. It's a roller coaster ride I'd gladly ride from time to time. This is a riveting series. Hard to put down once you start reading it. Lots of unexpected turns and twists, very exciting. This just keeps you on edge waiting for what's around the corner! I love this author!I read a lot of Koontz, Patterson, Connelly, Coben ... they were starting to blend together. In my opinion, Rebecca Forster is my favorite author out there.

I have read all five of Ms Forster's Witness Series and am hoping for another one, surely she will not leave us to our own imaginations. If you have not read this series give yourself a treat and start from the beginning. There are a few twists and turns in each novel that I did not see coming. Hope you enjoy as much as I have.
