About this audiobook

The term “Hermetic” comes from Hermes Trismegistus, who was originally an Egyptian god (Thoth) and was later incorporated into Greek culture, and associated with Hermes. The term “hermetic” can mean “pertaining to alchemy and magic”. About forty books are ascribed to Hermes Trismegistus. These books were written between about 200 BC and 200 AD deal with alchemy and astrology, and also with philosophy. The “Hermetic Tradition” isn’t simply the Alchemical Tradition, it’s a literary-philosophical tradition in which alchemy, astrology, the occult, and the philosophy of Plato are all interwoven. All European alchemists may be said to be part of the Hermetic tradition, but philosophers and poets with no interest in alchemy may also be considered part of this tradition. In this lecture Terence McKenna explores the Hermetic Tradition by discussing ancient traditions, symbolism, the philosophy behind it.

The writer is a great teacher/speaker. His path was always clear and mind challenging, mental dreams, and thoughts demanding further exploration. He was unpretentious and entertaining, I was eating his soup unaware it was spicy and hot. Most of all, while he mentioned several times, his words didn’t originate with him, some being thousands of years old. However he presented ideas at the moment that were a shimmering revelation to me. I was presented a wondrous gift of imagination, planted in fertile soil. Thank you.

This all seems prophetic coming to us from the 90s. The last chapter is especially prescient and maybe the only example of non-coersive utopian thinking I've ever heard. Terrence's spirit is out there somewhere, talking to elves. I hope I meet him someday.

Terence, shares MANY revelations he’s had over years of psychedelic use. Which proves he was way ahead of his time. One of the healthier world views that I’ve heard.
    I especially like chapter 5
