About this audiobook

Briggs,

Remember when we parted ways in Germany? It was the day I broke your heart. What you didn't know was that I was breaking mine too.

I thought they'd be enough-my husband and my son. That I'd get home and everything would go back to the way it was . . . Before the war. Before the ambush. Before you. But, no matter how hard I try, I can't erase the trauma we shared. I can't seem to forget the way my heart beat in time with yours. The truth is, I'm lost without you.

I thought the nightmare was over when they pulled us from that hole in the ground, but nothing could have prepared me for the war I'd face at home.

I know it's selfish of me to ask, but, please, I have to see you one last time . . .

All my love, Scottie

The female narrator…ugh! BUT!!! This story! Heartrending. Devastating yet hopeful. Painfully raw, yet exquisitely crafted to keep the reader rooting for each character.

The female narrator was too robotic for me. I couldn't listen. I'll maybe try the written version.

The narrators and the performance was wonderful, but the book was awful. Make sure to read the trigger warnings before reading because I didn’t, so I really didn’t enjoy this book.

    Spoiler
I spent 14 hours listening to a soldier cheating on her soldier husband with the soldier she got captured with… That’s it… that’s the entire book. The entire book is based around cheating and validating herself for falling in love while away from her family.

Also, I could’ve forgiven the cheating if it started after the trauma, she started having feelings before being captured, so to me she started emotionally cheating well before being captured.

The book was fantastic…. The narrating not so much. The FMC narrating this sounded so robotic. I ended up stoping the audio and just reading it.

Holy cheese. I don’t know why I kept listening… I must have rolled my eyes out loud.

This book wrecked me. The only issue is I would have liked to have been warned about the rape scene. That one set me back a few days. Otherwise one of my favs and will not read again because my heart just can’t take it.

Heartbreak Warfare was a rather intense read. It deals with a woman who comes back from military deployment after having been held prisoner and abused by her captors. She was held along with another soldier and they become very close due to their traumatic shared experience. The problem is that she is/was happily married and when she goes home she has to deal with her feelings for both men and what she is going to do about it. Very angsty and it is written in such a way that the reader really can't be sure how the story is going to end.Not my usual type of book, but it was better than I anticipated. I would recommend to others who enjoy this type of romance.
