About this audiobook

What would happen if a shy introvert lived like a gregarious extrovert for one year? If she knowingly and willingly put herself in perilous social situations that she’d normally avoid at all costs? Writer Jessica Pan intends to find out. With the help of various extrovert mentors, Jessica sets up a series of personal challenges (talk to strangers, perform stand-up comedy, host a dinner party, travel alone, make friends on the road, and much, much worse) to explore whether living like an extrovert can teach her lessons that might improve the quality of her life. Chronicling the author’s hilarious and painful year of misadventures, this book explores what happens when one introvert fights her natural tendencies, takes the plunge, and tries (and sometimes fails) to be a little bit braver.

She should have splurged and paid a narrator. She sounds like her nose is plugged. Couldn't enjoy it because of that, and her continuous politics. We get it-you're woke.

I found this book really interesting at first and then it got a little long and I was wishing that it would end already lol. I was getting kind of sick of the stories. but I did find it very interesting how much the author put herself out there and what she learned in the end and how she became a version of herself that she liked better

I liked the book ok but felt it went really slow. Had to listen on 1.2 speed. Overall I was encouraged to be brave and do the next hard thing.

The book itself is fine but they should have gotten someone else to read it. The rhythm and speed that it’s read feels like someone reading out loud in school. It was distracting from the book. I ended up finishing reading as an e-book instead of listening and that was better. But still felt like something was missing from the book… her stories were not as deep and insightful as I like in a memoir.

So much fun. I just reached the end, and for some reason, I’m almost teary! It was exciting going on this adventure with Jess, hearing about her trying new things, facing her fears, and doing improv classes. It has inspired me to try to incorporate some of this into my own life. Also, the writing style was so personable; she sounds like a friend.

Interesting read for introverts who don't say yes often and find themselves being recluses.

This a funny, entertaining story that also taught me things and gave me things to think about. Even as an extrovert I learned from this book and it also gave me the perspective of some of my more introverted or shy friends! Highly recommend!

I related to much in this book! I may just look for an improv class - me at almost-60. I may also record myself giving that maid of honor toast that I chickened out of so many years ago; and that I have seriously regretted ever since. Thank you!

Well done, the writing and the year of saying yes! I will be mailing a copy of this to a friend of mine!

A helpful book from those of us who could use some lessons on overcoming shyness and crippling fear of Public speaking. Aside from her dieification of Obama, who is a POS, the book was good. Would have probably earned 5 stars if she hadn't called that POS the greatest orator alive. He is most certainly not close to that and her praise made me want to puke. It's like praising Hitler. O & wife are just as racist.

I lived this book. All of the experiences are so relatable (especially since I am currently an American expat living in Beijing) and I want to Jess’s best friend.

I'm not an introvert so this was incredibly boring for me. There was nothing noteworthy, pretty boring book.

On the list of one of my favorites! I am an introvert, usually considered an out-going introvert, but I related to Jessica on so many levels. I loved the audio book and she made me laugh out loud several times. I'm not ready to try improv, but this is an excellent memoir.

Funny and relatable. Easy read, an interesting take on what it’s like to be an introvert and the flexibility of our personalities.

This was such a fun and relatable read. As an introvert I’ve found myself in most of those situations and trying and sometimes failing to extrovert. After reading this I actually feel inspired to try new things just for the sake of experimenting a bigger life. If you’re an extrovert you’ll get an accurate sense of what a day in the life of an introvert is like.

This book was so unexpected and perfect. Unlike other “I did this for a year” type books she shared her research and hilarious stories. Every chapter was great and I started to put into practice in my own life. Listening to this read by the author was the best!
