About this ebook
Organized by country, this historical exploration includes stories of girls and women from across Europe and the United States who risked their lives to perform extremely dangerous acts against the Nazis during World War II. The 26 profiles bring to life courageous women such as Noor Inayat Khan, a radio operator who parachuted into occupied France and transferred crucial messages; Johtje Vos, the Dutch housewife who hid Jews in her home and was repeatedly interrogated by the Gestapo; and Hannie Schaft, a Dutch law student who became involved in the most dangerous resistance work—sabotage, weapons transference, and assassinations. The profiles are written using dialogue, direct quotes, and document excerpts to lend authenticity and immediacy. Each profile includes one or more informative sidebars and is followed by a list of relevant books, websites, and films, making it an attractive resource for teachers, parents, and libraries.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A well organised, interesting, easy read about some of the women involved in the resistance during the war who I've read about recently. An older book and I agree that this would be young adult. I kept getting drawn back to it, thinking about the decisions these women made to put themselves in such danger for a cause they believed in. Would I do it?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Women Heroes of World War II was a very informative and interesting book. I've read a lot of books about the holocaust victims of world war II but this is the first book I've read about the women heroes involved in resistance fighting and hiding Jews. This book is organized beautifully. It is divided by country and tells of that particular country's involvement and entrance into the war and then has stories of the women heroes in that country. At the end of each woman's story, further reading sources are provided. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
