About this ebook

In the sequel to Suzanne Young’s A Need So Beautiful, seventeen-year-old Elise wakes up in a desert park with no idea who she is. After that episode, her life takes a bizarre turn. She’s experiencing unexpected flashes of insight into people’s lives—people she’s never met before. Strangers frighten her with warnings about the approaching Shadows.

And although Elise has never had a boyfriend, she suddenly finds herself torn between two handsome but very different young men: Abe, the charming bad boy whose effect on her both seduces and frightens her, and the mysterious Harlin, who’s new to town but with whom Elise feels an urgent, elemental connection—almost as if they are soul mates.

Readers of the Sweet Evil trilogy will love A Want So Wicked, a wildly romantic thriller that explores the nature of good and evil.

I won this book a really long time ago. Back when I had my old blog. I was so excited because I had been wanting to read A Need So Beautiful for a long time, and getting this book was the perfect excuse to finally get the first one. Unfortunately it didn’t work out that way. It took me a very long time to get my hands on A Need So Beautiful. When it finally happened, I read it right away and really liked it. As soon as I finished, I went right into this one.Guys, I hate to say it but I didn’t like this one as much. I still liked it, but it wasn’t as good. I liked Elise, but not as much as Charlotte. I’m not sure why that is. I kind of felt that way about all the characters. I liked them, but not as much. I still enjoyed this book and I wish there was a third book because I want more.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, A Need So Beautiful. The review I wrote after reading it a few years ago shows how enthusiastic I was about it. So when I had a cross-country flight earlier this year, I was looking forward to having a few uninterrupted hours to read the sequel. And mehhhhh.I don't know what happened here, but there isn't even a plot. The book is mostly people standing around talking. We go back and forth between scenes with Dude #1 and scenes with Dude #2. There's a lot of telling-not-showing. A LOT of that. And worst of all, there's absolutely no explanation for why the main character seems to be so Super Special that she's breaking the rules of the Forgotten. While I suspect there's supposed to more books in the series, absolutely nothing seemed like foreshadowing or foundation laid down to explain what is going on. The whole thing was one vague blob of characters talking about what was happening without really saying anything substantial. The first book would have been awesome as a stand-alone book. The ending would have been pretty daring and bittersweet for the genre. It certainly didn't need this sequel.

Maybe someday I will re-read A Want So Wicked and do another review. Better reviews (hopefully) in the future.

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.Quick & Dirty: A much better, less boring repeat of A Need So Beautiful. Young comes back with her heart-wrenching scenes and a determined female protagonist.Opening Sentence: I hear an echo as sound hums its way into my ears. The Review: Elise remembers everything from her childhood – from her mom’s death to her sister’s late night escapes – but none of it actually happened. As Elise and her sister settle into their new home, they both discover new things, but handle them in entirely different ways. Elise starts a new job at a Mexican restaurant where she meets the alluring Abe, who dares her to be a little wild. But there’s also the stranger on the motorcycle that keeps appearing randomly. Of course nothing is stranger than the random impulses to help people she experiences – a warming and yet disconcerting experience that precedes flashes of someone else’s life. Forced to reconcile with what she is and face whatever these Shadows people keep warning her about, Elise must choose once again whether to fight for the good or succumb to the evil. This book is almost the exact arc of A Need So Beautiful. Only more enjoyable and entertaining. The Needs are so much more heart-breaking and the memories are nostalgic, adding to the depth of the conflict. Although there were a lot of abrupt developments – Harlin and Elise’s whole relationship is insta-love (literally) once they finally start talking – and this was even before she remembers who she is. Their whole relationship is confusing, but that just started in the first book. Abe on the other hand, was pretty well-developed, pretty basic, but he had more depth than Harlin. Where Harlin was just a broken mourning mess, Abe had motives (not just feelings/attraction) to become close to Elise. The love triangle’s conclusion was also very abrupt (can’t go into detail without spoilers).I’ve always loved Young’s writing and themes in this series. The importance of family and responsibility are shown throughout the books. From her heart-wrenching, sob-story, to the development of the main character’s inner-war, Young’s writing has always be able to express the turbulent emotions the characters face.Yet this ability to pull the reader’s heart-strings cannot overshadow the confusing character developments and the odd plot. Although most of the character development started in the first book, there were still new characters that seemed inconsistent and flat. As I said before, Harlin is such a confusing character from the beginning. His actions do not always coincide with his personality and in this book, he is a very wimpy and depressing all the time. Abe on the other hand is a deliciously complex character that has snark down to a T. Although he is also very confusing, Abe was still more developed than Harlin.Despite its rocky journey, the Need series is pretty good. If you have patience with odd character arcs but love a good heart-tugging story, I suggest these to you.Notable Scene: “Wait,” Harlin whispers, reaching to take my hand. Startled, I turn to him. He studies me with what can only be described as absolute pain. I nearly reach for him, but he lets my hand drop.Harlin leans to put his elbows on his knees, his face in his palms. Marceline slides the bowl of mints toward him, but he doesn’t lift his head. The wrinkles in Marceline’s skin seems to deepen. When her eyes meet mine, she shrugs apologetically. “You’re the reincarnation of his girlfriend. A Forgotten.”I stumble back a step. “I’m a what?”“Your name was Charlotte Cassidy. Beautiful soul–very loving. In the end, you–”Harlin jumps up then, rushing past us. He doesn’t say a word, and when the front door closes, I know he’s gone. Tears begin to gather in my eyes.“He’s never learned to handle his grief,” Marceline explains. “He’ll find you when he’s ready. He always does.”FTC Advisory: HarperCollins provided me with a copy of A Want So Wicked. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Overall: One of my major gripes with sequels is that they aren’t stand-alone novels. A Want so Wicked can be read and enjoyed by itself, though I heavily recommend you check out its amazing predecsessor, A Need So Beautiful. Characters: I had more trouble connecting with Harlin in this book than in the first book. The reasoning for him being so distant is explained at the end of the story, but it doesn’t make sense and really killed his character for me. I wasn’t feeling his commitment towards Charlotte/Elise. I also got annoyed with Elise with how she ignored her sister, because Elise was so self-centered in this novel. Charlotte gave everything she could to show her friends and family how much they meant, while Elise kind of shut everyone away to be with some guy. I originally liked Abe’s character but by the end he became nothing short of pathetic. I wish he had at least one redeeming quality.Plot: This book has the same basic plot as A Need So Beautiful, only with more sub-plots and characters. It’s darker and the history of the Forgotten and Seers is more fleshed out with this book.Ending: The twist involving Elise’s sister shocked me. I totally did not expect any of that to happen. Elise’s choice also surprised me, but I felt like it was for the best. I really hope that the author continues this series, since there is so much more that could be explained and revealed about this world.

If you have not read the first book, you should! This series just keeps getting better and better! What I enjoyed about this book is Elise finding out about her old life. The mystery of who she is, attaches itself to the reader. You can't help but keep reader until you find out! And let me tell you that the secret is so worth it.The search for answers is one ride I loved being on.The love interest in the book completely took me off guard. I thought one thing about the guy but totally not so! I like that the author had me so invested in the characters that I couldn't even look at him that way. Even after, I am still swooning over him. Elise does indeed find out who she should be with and it pure joy!I totally enjoyed just being on the adventure of figureing out her past, who she really loved and who she is. This part captures the reader like no other.A Want So Wicked is simply divine! Carefully structured so that no reader can resist, A Want So Wicked draws the reader deeper into the story. Hauntingly beautiful, A Want So Wicked is enticing!
