Writing - L C Walker
INTRODUCTION
This book was written in order to give the reader an idea of how to become a writer. If you read the whole book, you will see that writing a book is a lot easier than you may have thought it was. But on the other hand, some people will decide that writing a book is not for them. Most people can write a book, if they know how to do it correctly, and if they know what has to go into the story. Some readers will decide it will be fun to see the result, on paper, of their own thoughts.
This book was also written so the reader that will write a book will not have to worry about finding a publisher for his or her book. Most people that write a book will never have it published or printed. They will let the book sit in their computer and do nothing with it. They may make one or two paper copies for a relative, friend or his/her-self and every now and then, they may read it.
This book will show a person from the start, what to do and how to get the story on paper and how to get it published and printed. Also, don’t believe it will cost an arm and a leg. There are a large number of printing companies that will print your book on demand.
I have read and skimmed many books on writing and the one thing that bothers me is that most just give one illustration after another. They hardly ever get to the point and give the reader the information they need to become a writer. If you wanted a book on illustrations, instead of a book on writing, you would have bought a book on illustrations. You wanted a book on writing and this book is exactly that.
One thing that you will find in this book is that we get straight to the point. I do not give a lot of examples or illustrations; I get right to the good stuff.
Most books on writing will have at least three hundred pages or more. More than half of the pages just beat around the bush. It takes forever for them to get to the point.
This book will be short compared to other books, but I believe the information I will be giving you will be more than worth the money you paid for it. I also compared the price for my book to a large number of other books on writing and, almost every time, my book was cheaper.
Another thing that I noticed in other books on writing was that they would talk about publishers, but they hardly ever gave a publisher’s name or what their web address is or how to get in touch with them.
I noticed that almost all the other books never gave the name or names of printing companies, either. I believe, if you have a good printer that you have done business with before and they give you a really professional looking product, then you should let people know about them. In most of my books, I have let the printing company place a page in the front of my books for advertising.
There are other things that I did not like about other books that I read on writing. The front cover of any book is so important that it will make or break your book. I know, in order to get someone to make a front cover for your book, it can get very expensive. If you get lucky and a publisher takes your book, then your problem about a cover is over and you will not have to worry about that. However, who has four or five hundred dollars to pay someone to create a front cover for your book?
In my book I give you a web site where you can buy a product that will give you the ability to make your own front cover that looks like a professional artist made it for you.
Now that I have explained why I wrote this book, I believe it is also worthwhile to explain some of the benefits of buying this book.
First, you will be able to see each step it takes to become a writer, all the way through to getting your book published and printed from a publisher's point of view. Once you see the different steps, you may appreciate what goes into the idea of writing and publishing a book.
Second, your time is valuable and by READING THIS BOOK FIRST, and then taking each step, you should not have a rough road in becoming a writer.
Third, you want to write a book because you have something to say and you are hoping that people will want to buy your book to read what you have written. The more books you sell, the more money you make. This book should help you maximize your profits and dodge the potholes.
Fourth, every writer has to start somewhere. You are now considered an unknown and as an unknown, almost all publishers will reject your book. By reading this book, you may find a publisher that will take your book. If you do not find a publisher, you can always have it self-published; that is easy.
I hope this book will give you everything that you need in order for you to write a great book and get it published.
Oh, I also have a chapter called, Becoming Your Publisher.
If you decide you would like for me to publisher your book, I will. Once you start to read this book, you will see what I am talking about.
Like I stated before, I try to get straight to the point, so let’s stop talking and get into the good stuff.
Have fun writing and watch how easy everything comes together for your book.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ORDER
Thank you for ordering my book, Writing: Step By Step. My book is written with the idea of guiding you through all the steps of writing a book to eventually getting your book published.
I know some of you that ordered this book will decide, after you have read completely through the book, that becoming an author is not for you. That is okay. You may decide that a small story about your life will be enough at this point. If that is the case, you will not regret your decision. On the other hand, I think most people that order my book will attempt to write at least one book, just to see if they can become an author. You can never tell, I may become your publisher sometime in the near future.
Before we get started, I would like to take a little time with those people who have no confidence in becoming an author and doubt their ability. I know I am not supposed to ASSUME anything, but I am going to assume that you have skimmed through this book completely, once, and now, you are pretty sure you do not want to be an author.
You can see that there is a lot more to writing than just sitting down and putting your thoughts on paper or in a computer. So, for those people, as I stated before, it is okay if you decide not to become an author. It does not mean that you have no creative ideas or your attention span is too short. It just means that you would prefer to do other things with your time, rather than to sit and try to put your thoughts on paper. However, let me give you another possibility. Instead of putting your thoughts on paper, how about using your computer? With all of the new technology that has been discovered in the last five to ten years, computers are as common as hotdogs and apple pie. Also, remember most people can type a lot faster than they can write. As you know, you can use the spell check in your computer, if you don’t want to keep a dictionary on your lap. I know some people will not use a computer, because they don’t want others to read their thoughts or they don’t feel comfortable having others reading about their dreams or fantasies. I hope I am not speaking to people with closed minds, and I hope I am not wasting my time and breathe trying to explain to you how important it is that you put your thoughts on paper or in a computer. I hope you will consider one or the other. I consider your thoughts and ideas very, very important. Some of the greatest writers started with an idea and they put it on paper. That idea grew into a novel and that novel became a Best Seller. Your ideas can become a novel and it may just become a Best Seller, also. Don’t let anyone tell you that your ideas or your thoughts are stupid or ignorant. Your ideas are not stupid or ignorant. I believe a better word would be intuitive. The people that say your thoughts or ideas are stupid or ignorant are usually the ones that have no idea which direction is up or down. They are the ones that have no imagination, no vision, no creativeness, and no sense of what a person can develop in their mind.
Determine that your ideas are important and they must be put into some type of format so you can revisit them, from time to time, and add more thoughts to your soon to be novel.
You might be wondering, what might be a good idea or a good theme to write about? I have found writing about yourself is one topic you know a lot about. You will not have to do a lot of research away from home. The more you know about a topic, the better you will be about getting excited about what you are writing. Most people don’t seem to get excited while writing about their dull, drab or seemingly, bleak life. However, what would happen if you started writing about your fictitious life. You can make it as exciting or as dull as you wish. Just think about some of the books that Zane Grey or Louie L’Amour wrote. They may have been thinking that they were the characters they were writing about.
The same goes for you. Dream or fantasize about the story you are writing about. You will be surprised that, if you write two or three pages each night, in one month, you could have sixty or more pages of a great novel written. Please, please don’t give up before you even get started. Take maybe an hour and write what is on your mind. It may surprise you with what you come up with. Just think, a Best Seller could be within your fingertips. All you need to do is to put your ideas on paper or in a computer.
Now, let me get back to the rest of the readers that have decided to take a chance at becoming the next great author. I stated that you need to come up with an idea to write about and the best idea is to write about yourself, first. You could start with an idea about the things that you consider exciting and adventurous. The next step would be to decide what time period you would like for your adventure to be in. You must also decide if you want to be a male or female in your story. Once you have made all of these decisions, you will have to determine if you want a second book about your adventures and if so, will there be a third or fourth? Some of the greatest books have been written by authors who wanted to experience the things they could only dream about. Those dreams became the ideas that were put on paper and those pages of paper became a Best Selling novel. So, if you have not come up with an idea to write about yet, think about it a little longer and you can catch up later. However, if you already know what you want to write about, then let’s get started with your novel.
The first thing I want to do is to give you a little background material about my life. By looking at my background, you will see where I am coming from and where I want to go with my writing.
I also have a chapter on negative thinking. It seems as if people, that consider themselves experts in writing, are writing more and more books on how to become writers, but giving you less and less information or material that you will need to accomplish your goals. Most of those books are very negative toward the beginning writer. I have written this book with positive ideas that you can learn from and that you can apply to your writing.
There are a lot of things that a new writer must learn and the things in this book should keep you on a straight and narrow path to success. There will be detours in everything you do, but roll with the punches and believe that things will work out. Just remember, I have been down that road and the things I
