Hi, I'm David Barton PhD. I am a husband and father to three beautiful girls. I live in New Zealand and was born in South Africa. I have studied, Counselling and Psychology and have a PhD in Psychology from the University of Otago, Dunedin. I had a life changing event at the end of 2018 when I got diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. The cancer was widespread. It also got into my spine and paralyzed me for a time. Recovery was hard, but now I am cancer free and walking, even running again. There are probably several ways of approaching the fear of rejection. What I present to you in this eBook is a view that springs forth from my own approach to understanding people.
Over the years that I have studied and worked in the area of psychology and counselling, I have come to realise how important it is to examine our thinking when we are attempting to improve ourselves. That is the approach this eBook takes. It presents you with what I believe is a good solution to the fear of rejection, by focussing on your thoughts, emotions and actions. I use a branch of psychology called Cognitive Psychology, as it is an area of psychology which has received significant research and study over several decades. It is one of the primary reasons I like cognitive psychology. It has been well researched through clinical studies and has proven to be successful in working with fear, amongst other psychological problems.
There are many people who struggle with the fear of rejection. Each one of us struggles with it in one way or another. That is why I have addressed this problem in this eBook; I believe it poses a significant obstacle to millions of people around the world. Overcoming this fear will make you a better salesperson, entrepreneur, business owner, or will just simply give you more confidence in connecting and communicating with other people.
The techniques and ideas contained in this eBook have helped hundreds of thousands of individuals world-wide and they can help you too. Not only to solve your fear of rejection, but also to solve almost any other emotional disturbance you might experience in your life.
Since I first entered the workforce I have been involved in sales in one form or another. I have had jobs as a salesman, as a business owner and even helping my children sell guide biscuits and chocolates for school fund raising. In each and every job I have had, sales has played a part. Sales are an integral part of society. Without it our economies would come to a grinding halt.
If you are a business owner, sales professional, or even a parent trying to help fundraise for your local school, you will have engaged in the process of selling. It’s an inescapable part of life. I wish I had been better instructed when I first set out in sales work. In those early years it would have made a huge difference in my sales performance if I knew what I know now about how we develop our fears and how to overcome them. No one likes rejection. It’s uncomfortable and at times distressing. Like you, I am not exempt from its effects. It has a way of controlling you. It can produce emotions in you that manipulate your behaviour.
Nowadays I can better identify when fear is trying to influence my behaviour and produce an inappropriate response to a situation. This book will teach you to how do the same. My hope is that the material contained within will be a huge benefit to you and catapult you towards a prosperous career in business and sales. I also hope that you will use what you learn here to assist you in other areas of your life so that ultimately you will be a better, happier and, healthier person.
