About this ebook

Disheartened by the lack of mail, the Spy and his wife become unsure if their love has survived the gnawing doubt those years of separation has foisted upon them.

Eventually this brings potential lovers to the door of the wife, which causes stirrings deep within that weakens her resolve. The feelings frighten her, for she knows that any hint of impropriety may reach her husband and cause their marriage to disintegrate.

Meanwhile, to keep up his image as a gallant Confederate Officer, the Spy has become involved with a Woman-of-the-South that provides sustenance to his lonely soul. It is her love that requires her to chase him throughout the South.

In time, frustration and loneliness compels his wife to go find him, and she narrowly misses catching another woman in his bed.

Civil War Spy and the Women he left Behind blends action, scurrilous romance and history into a fascinating story reminiscent of Gone with the Wind. Based upon the Author’s distant relation, George Pittman, anyone interested in the American Civil War will enjoy this book immensely. This sensationalized account creates such a compelling, exciting and potentially controversial novel that everyone will want to talk about it, even if certain aspects disagree with their philosophy. It is unlike anything written recently!

If you are looking for adventure in pursuit of rare secrets, then check out this ambitious blend of action and love for the sake of love. It is full of just enough of the right kind of detail to make you feel as if you are there, and the characters are congenial and believable, while not being stereotypical. All of them present memorable and deeply human emotions, as they traverse the unusual pitfalls of life. Their intense relationships are as much a part of this story as is the twisting, breathless sequence of events.

Civil War Spy and the Women he left Behind presents an astonishing rollercoaster of emotions that run wild. This book will not let the reader ignore it and the mysteries and complexities of the characters will make you wish you could chase their dreams and tolerate their fears.

This novel builds up to an amazing ending that will leave you wanting more and saying, “Good for her!”

Civil War Spy and the Women he left Behind, as well as the prequel, Run to the Sun, are smoothly blended into the much larger novel, Lavenders of Eternal Bliss: An American Family Saga.

Roy E. Hoover

Roy Hoover was born the fifth of twelve children. The son of a strict and poor Schoolteacher, he was raised in a poverty ridden section of Southern Indiana, where violence was a way of life. His mother was a very loving and religious person that filled the vacuum left by his father, and she persistently encouraged the family to do better. Leaving home at 18, he served with the First Cavalry Division in Korea, volunteered for a covert mission in Southeast Asia, and is an honorably discharged Vietnam-era veteran. A few weeks after his 20th birthday, Hoover was released from duty with the Army, and returned to Indiana. Three months later, he married the love of his life. Although, happier than he had ever been, he could not shake the wanderlust in his soul. He gave up a secure Government job, and moved his family around the USA for a few years, prior to permanently settling in Mesa, Arizona. Hoover worked more than 60 hours a week to support his family, while making his way through college. He received his BS degree from Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona, and his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, Malibu, California. During his stay at Pepperdine, he wrote articles for the Law School Newspaper and for the Law Journal. He completed Law School in two years, and worked for a short time with the California Public Defender's Office, prior to returning to his first interest, engineering. As an Engineer, he thoroughly enjoyed his career and involvement with spacecraft, satellites, insulin pumps, and heart pacemakers. Hoover shared many wonderful years with his wife until her battle with cancer ended. Alone and feeling lost, he began to write some of the stories that he had hidden away for a long time. As the dreams and imagination that sustained him during his years of poverty came forth, they began to merge with the memories that dwelled in the backwaters of his soul, and the combination fashioned novels for the happenstance of everyday living.
