Ten Walks around Lewes
By Ian Runcie
()
About this ebook
Walks in, from, to, and around Lewes in East Sussex, UK.
The route is described in the e-book/download and is text only. Description is sparse and is designed for use with a smart phone as you walk along. Each walk has its own web page with further information and comments. The walks are also available as GPX file. GPX files and details of the webpages can be obtained from the e-book. Those without smart phones or who prefer a conventional format can download and print the walks, with or without the website detail.
There's a Google Map for each walk in the website but these are rough guides only.
Route descriptions are of good quality and the distillation of many years of devising and writing up walks. Distances are between 3 and 12 miles. Most of the walks involve a walk up onto the Downs. Many can be broken up into shorter lengths. All are well served by public transport.

Smashwords Edition
If you’re reading this book and did not purchase it, please return to Smashwords.com and purchase your own copy. Thank you for respecting the hard work of this author.
There is a web site http://walker.hpage.com to accompany this e-book, which contains a sample free walk. It also reproduces the Extra Information parts of this book. There are Google satellite maps and some associated images, which are unfortunately too large for the size limits on e-books. Updates on the walks will appear there until I can get around to updating the book itself.
The passwords for the web pages are given at the end of the book.
Map coordinates are expressed as British National grid refs and as lat/long hddd.ddddd
Feedback is welcome, as the great thing about an e-book is that it can be corrected fairly easily.
This is not very remote country: If you go wrong you're unlikely to disappear forever and you'll probably be able to manage without a map. However, for your maximum enjoyment, an OS map is recommended. There are satellite Google maps on the web pages but these are rough guides only and not adequate substitutes for an Ordnance Survey map. The routes between the numbered waymarks appear as straight lines and do not necessarily follow the paths. Where the straight lines are misleading I have added extra waymarks named with reference to highlighted text in the ebook.
For comments you can contact me here.
Once downloaded you can re-download in any of the available formats. PDF is suggested for printing. GPX files can be obtained from the individual walk chapters. The text in the gpx files doesn’t get automatically updated so it’s best to check the text in the e-book.
Chapter 1
Around Cuckoo Bottom
A short walk around a shallow, dry valley with both woodland and open scenery and splendid views. There is a climb of 150m or so. Length is 3.5 miles and it will take you about an hour and a half.
Start near the prison at the junction of Spital Road and Neville Road, (A277) BN7 1PA. There is some metered parking nearby and the 121, 125, 128, 166, 824 buses all stop here (Gallop Rd stop)
