The land is covered in Douglas fir, Oregon white oak, apple trees, crab apple trees, grapes, medlars, blackberries, wild roses, and an abundance of herbs and wild plants. Her first book, "Visits From Beyond: True Stories of After Death Encounters", was published in June 2012, and her second, "Angelic Encounters: True Stories of Angelic Protection, Assistance, and Comfort", was published August 2012. About the Author

    Introduction

I've known that angels, or divine beings, were real as long as I can remember.

My first encounter with angels happened when I was about three years old. I was held underwater by a disturbed neighbor until I lost consciousness. I remember floating up towards the basement ceiling and feeling something wrap around me. I'd been terrified and in pain until I floated free of my body, but then I was warm and comfortable and felt like I was being hugged. And I felt safe, the same way I felt in my mother or grandmother's arms. I looked behind me and saw someone I didn't recognize. I wasn't afraid of the stranger at all; instead I continued to feel warm and safe.

The stranger took me to a beautiful, park-like place with soft green grass, huge leafy trees, and crystal clear streams. There were many other angels there, some who were also with me and some who were with other children. Much later I understood that they were all comforting and healing hurt children.

I was very angry when the angels told me I couldn't stay and would have to go back. They explained I could stay as long as it took for me to be ready to go back, but I couldn't stay permanently. I finally agreed I was ready, and found myself back in my body, dry, dressed, and lying on the neighbor's bed.

In the next few years I saw angels several more times, always when I was injured or terrified. They always took me to that beautiful place and comforted me.

By the time I was six years old, I was safe from the people who'd hurt me. I didn't see angels again until my late teens.

I'd just had a serious back injury and was taking both pain medication and muscle relaxants. I was alone at home when I started hallucinating blood dripping down the walls and became terrified. Suddenly there was a woman with me. She seemed very familiar, yet I didn't know who she was. She calmed me down and reassured me that I was only having a bad reaction to medication, and then she helped me get downstairs to the telephone to call my mother at work. My mother came home to take care of me, and just before she came in the room, the woman smiled at me and disappeared.

Since then I've seen angels many other times, always helpful or comforting, always clearly guided by good. Because of my early experiences, I've been drawn to angelic artwork and stories of angelic beings all my life.

When I first felt compelled to write this book, those experiences came back to me very vividly.

When I was ready to write this book, I put the word out on my website and Facebook page. I asked my clients, friends, and contacts if they had stories they'd like to share.

This volume contains stories from forty people who generously shared their experiences. Each person attested to the truth of their story and stated the story happened themselves or to a late family memory of theirs.

Each person chose how to identify themselves; most chose the first name, with or without an initial for the surname, or initials.

I've edited very minimally. Each person entrusted something very sacred to me for this book, and my intention is to honor that and to maintain each person's own narrative voice. I've standardized spelling and edited for clarity as needed, and each story has gone back to the person who submitted it to ensure that I've not changed it significantly.

While I was compiling these stories, my own experiences became more vivid in my memory. I've enjoyed seeing both the similarities and the differences between different angelic encounters.

I'm grateful to all those who have generously shared their stories for this book and to all the angelic beings who have and continue to help me.

My own experiences with angelic beings were life-saving and comforting, and it brings me great joy to read others' experiences. It's my hope that this book will bring joy and comfort to everyone who wants or needs it.

    Chapter 1: Angels

Stories of angelic beings appear over and over throughout history. They're mentioned in religious texts, including the Jewish and Christian Bibles and the Qur'an, and they appear in historical texts including those by Plato and Aristotle. They appear in non-western cultures as well, and references to angelic beings go as far back as the Sumerians.

While researching their history, I learned that several studies about angelic beings (their study is sometimes called Angelology) have been done in the past decade, including the following:

A 2004 Gallup poll comparing Canada and England showed that 56% of Canadians believe in angels, while 36% of Britons believe in them.

A 2006 Associated Press-AOL poll showed that 81% of Americans believe in angels.

A 2008 poll by Baylor University's Institute for Studies of Religion of 1700 respondents of diverse Judeo-Christian faiths showed that 55% believed they had been protected by a guardian angel at some point in their life.

A 2010 survey by the Bible Society and Christian Research of over 1000 respondents in the UK showed that overall 31% believed in angels, with the belief highest in London (40%) and lowest in the North East (17%).

A 2011 Associated Press poll showed that 77% of American adults believe in angels. While the numbers were highest among those of the Christian faith, more than half of those who identified as something other than Christian believed in angels.

From the readings I've done for clients and my own experience, I know that there are different reasons for angelic beings to appear to people. Some come to protect or assist the living, some to comfort the living; others visit and comfort the dying. Some are perceived by the living as assistants to or companions of the dying.

Angelic beings can appear in myriad ways, including appearing as normal human beings, as traditional Christian angels as shown in Western artwork, as glowing beings, as orbs of light, and more. Some aren't perceived visually at all, but as invisible, loving presences or as voices.

Some appear or disappear mysteriously; others leave leave the same way a living person would. Most angelic beings appear during waking hours, but some appear during sleep or twilight. Some appear repeatedly to the same person; others appear only once. Some are perceived as guardian angels. Some angelic beings appear in the form of someone known to the person perceiving them, with that person later discovering that who they saw wasn't the person they appeared to be. Some angelic beings encourage and strengthen us during moments of despair, while others encourage us to be better people. Some appear to accompany the dying as they transition.

Angelic beings share key characteristics of being helpful, comforting, protective, or a combination.

    Chapter 2: Dream Encounters

Most of the angelic encounters shared with me occurred during waking time, but some occurred in dreams, when it can be easier to bypass the conscious mind. Perhaps it's easier for angelic beings to contact some people when their conscious minds are asleep, or perhaps, that is just what's best for that person at the time.

Either way, what always resonates strongly for me is that there are normal dreams that fade away and leave little to remember them by, and then there are dreams that are life changing and never leave us.

Angelic dreams seem to be firmly in the latter category. They're memorable, and have a long-term, positive impact on the dreamer. They can be comforting, protective, or assistive. In some cases, the angelic being tells the dreamer to wake up and take a certain action for their own safety. In the stories I've been told, that advice has always been invaluable.

To me this indicates that angelic dreams are more than just dreams. I believe they're powerful spiritual experiences that can and do change people's lives for the better.

I was seven or eight when I was hit by a car. It was my own fault. I'd been playing ball at the park and missed a catch. I ran out in the street to get the ball and ended up directly in front of a moving car. To the driver I must have appeared out of nowhere, because I ran out right in front of a big delivery truck stopped by the park gate. I don't think anyone could have tried any harder to stop than she did.

I didn't remember the next part until 15 years ago.

There was screaming, but I don't think it was me, and then things got very bright and I was near a lake. I was a city boy and the only lake I'd ever seen was a small one in the city. I liked it for fishing, but the water was smelly and dirty-looking, and I couldn't swim in it. The one I saw that time was the nicest looking lake I'd ever seen. I remember wanting
