About this ebook
What have we forgotten after taking this fall from paradise into a dense human form? Where did we really come from; what are we doing here; for what purpose was this madly spinning Earth world created? For most of us fallen spirits, all these queries are clouded by a fog of forgetfulness.
“A Mindgame to Remembrance” peers through the shroud to take a playful yet in-depth look at these questions and provides one set of answers via a humorous heaven and the author’s real-world experiences while navigating the spiritual path through India. The earthly journey begins at cremation grounds along the sacred river Ganga and ends among Himalayan peaks after a treacherous solo hike through a remote region of ancient Tibet.
The book also chronicles the concurrent flights of imagination which make frequent stopovers in a heavenly realm struggling with the troubles it inadvertently unleashed by creating Earth as a training ground for consciousness. The powers-that-be thought it a nifty idea to create an earth world of beastly duality in which our blissful spirits would get lost for a human lifetime, then return to heaven with a greater appreciation for our oneness with the universal. Great theory, poor execution.
As you might have guessed from firsthand experience, earthly seductions proved too distracting and the human ego too fierce a defender of its realm to enable spirit to recall its heavenly heritage and return home to Oneness. Gratefully, however, this wayward author got my ego beaten into submission by modern India’s challenges, while heavenly hosts arrived in my psyche to rekindle memories of the spiritual homecoming that awaits those who have tired of chasing endless desires and mindless diversions while scuttling down the fast lane of Earth.
If you too are weary of slavery to a grasping ego and its desires, perhaps you will choose to follow some of the cosmic breadcrumbs dropped by heavenly guides—and recounted in the Mindgame story—that lead back to conscious awareness of one’s true self and spiritual heritage. Or at least in the reading, you can follow the convoluted footsteps of a fool on his journey and, with luck, avoid some of the pitfalls that await the unwary.
Better yet, maybe you have already dropped the false ego and are living from your new and improved self-identity as Consciousness—and wondering why the hell you’re still awakening each day to a crazy world of duality. If so, a later book of The Nyxall Chronicles entitled “The ‘I’ of the Storm” may provide temporary solace, a laugh, and some food for thought. While “Beyond Illusion”, where the plot shifts from India to the Peruvian Andes, is awaiting those ready to chuck in their earthly addictions and go the full monty for spiritual liberation.
But since the Truth and perfection already lie in the core of your being, what’s the rush? Plus, as my favorite trickster guru professed near the end of “A Mindgame to Remembrance”, getting there can be quite a hoot, so long as we follow the host world’s prime directive: Keep your sense of humor, pal.
Steven J. Shupe
The author, after having been an active spiritual seeker and counselor the past twenty-five years, is generally a quiet nomad living in mountain retreat or shoreline solitude amidst pleasant climes. On the practical side, Shupe has seen many fleeting endeavors and roles pass through his life, ranging from being an environmental engineer, to a lawyer, mediator, and finally, a water resource consultant described in 1989 by the L.A. Times as “one of the prominent forces for peaceful evolution in Western water policies.” Shupe laid off his employees in that year for a temporary sabbatical break which quickly became a permanent reality shift filled with spirit guides, psychic encounters, and a path of discovery guided by amazing grace. While composing his spiritual autobiography in late 2000 along the Ganges River, Shupe ran out of steam on the true story, so fashioned a plunge into amnesia to enhance the path of exploration, as recounted in the initial volume of The Nyxall Chronicles, entitled “The Now or Never”. Towards the end of the conjured amnesia process, the author realized that he was actually caught in a deeper, lifelong cycle of forgetfulness—one on the soul level wherein Spirit had fallen into earthly embodiment without any memory of where it had come from or why it is here. Consequently, Shupe began pursuing an intensive inner journey of discovery primarily involving Himalayan experiences, alternative spiritual practices, and additional writing to jar loose hidden clues and forgotten secrets via creative imagination. “A Mindgame to Remembrance” charts his subsequent exploits through northern India, juxtaposed with scenes from a humorous heaven which is struggling to guide a stubborn Earth to its ultimate destiny. A third Nyxall Chronicle, “The ‘I’ of the Storm” reflects further explorations into alternative realms of existence, the nature of consciousness, and Mingo and Marla's excellent adventure into planetary upheaval. In 2015, Shupe traveled to the Peruvian Andes to complete the plunge into the mystery, both in practice and in writing, as reflected in the final Chronicle, “Beyond Illusion”. He welcomes written contact at KOANnowhere@yahoo.com from fellow explorers of this multidimensional universe and its punch lines to freedom. Please note that the four books in The Nyxall Chronicles, although interrelated, can be read and enjoyed in any sequence, since they each contain unique storylines, messages, and resolution. ["Beyond Illusion" is temporarily unavailable due to editing for the 2020 edition.]
