About this ebook

For some, a romantic relationship seems like an impossible dream...

While growing up gay in small-town Missouri, Jace Holden is convinced he’ll die single and alone. When he meets Victor—a free spirit and fellow outsider—his chances of finding love go from hopeless to a very uncertain maybe. The more Jace gets to know his wild boy, the more he realizes just how strange Victor truly is, preferring to camp in the woods and wax philosophical rather than live a normal life. Bracing his heart, Jace chases after his desire anyway, all in the hope of making his biggest dream come true.

Something Like Autumn reveals the story of Jace's life before the events of Something Like Summer while also revisiting his endearing relationship with Benjamin Bentley.

Each Something Like... book follows a different LGBTQ character on their quest for romance. Central to the plot is the troubled relationship between Ben and Tim, high school sweethearts who continue to meet at different stages of their adult lives, their chemistry changing with each encounter. Surrounding them is a wealth of friends and enemies, each with their own story, resulting in an immersive universe filled with optimism and hope, heartbreak and healing. While the series doesn't shy away from sexual content, it also focuses deeply on emotion, resulting in an experience that will stay with you long after the final page is turned.

Jay Bell

Jay Bell is a proud gay man and the award-winning author behind dozens of emotional and yet hopelessly optimistic stories. His best-selling book, Something Like Summer, spawned a series of heart-wrenching novels, a musically driven movie, and a lovingly drawn comic. When not crafting imaginary worlds, he occupies his free time with animals, art, action figures, and—most ardently—his husband Andreas. Jay is always dreaming up new stories about boys in love. If that sounds like your cup of tea, you can get the kettle boiling by visiting www.jaybellbooks.com.

I went into this novel in the series with apprehension for two reasons. The first is that Jace was my favorite character from this love triangle so I was worried reading a whole book about him would mess with that impression somehow, and second because I knew how it was going to end, and honestly wasn't sure I wanted to experience that ending again. However, those apprehensions fell to the wayside as I read. Bell did an amazing job of making me care for and love Jace even more, and though I was an emotional wreck by the end, it was still worth it to suffer again. As much as I loved Jace in the first installment of the series, I was able to fall even deeper in love with this book. Understanding more of Jace's past helped to round out the character in ways that Bell was unable to do in the other two volumes. We were able to see why Jace was so kind and understanding and forgiving, because of his own past relationships. We were able to see his struggles that had helped shape his future. It was a great story, and it was really great to see the Character grow in such a way from the suicide attempt on the first page, to his marriage to Ben. What's upsetting about now having to continue the series, is that I have to continue it without Jace, and I'm worried there will be a hole there. Jace brought so much heart to the series, and I will always feel he was the better of Ben's loves. Bell seems to get better and better in writing, and this is definitely a series worth reading.

    All the stars.

Every once in a while, you find a book that cuts so deep it shocks you. This was that book for me. It broke me in ways I don't have words for, and I think it will continue to haunt me for a long time to come. I can't convey how painful this was to read, yet so full of love at the same time. It has earned a permanent place on my all time favorites list, quite possibly as my favorite in recent memory. Jay Bell is a master storyteller and I will gladly follow him anywhere. His characters in this book were so well drawn that not only will I miss them now that I've finished reading, but it's almost like I've lost real people. I know I will visit them again someday. An incredibly touching love story involving the lives of four people and how they intertwine throughout the course of their lives.

If you only read one book this year, let it be this one.

4.5 stars. Knowing the out come of this story I still felt devastated by the ending. Love Jace. What a great character.

I worried that reading this book right after the previous book I wouldn't enjoy the story as much, already knowing what was going to happen. But I loved it just as much as the first two books. While I know what will happen, the emotions and interactions are all still new from a different perspective. That points to great writing. However, I am excited to see this new character, Jason, that is featured in the next and fourth book in the series. If you enjoy GLBT romance, these are highly recommended books.

So far (after summer and winter) this is the book that stole me a few more tears than the previous ones. Such a delight to be able to read this story. Higly recommended.

Jace Holden knows what it means to lose hope. He has in fact given up on it entirely and is ready to end it all. But when things don't go as planned, he gets the second chance he quickly realizes he wanted all along. And when he meets Victor, a rebel with a capital 'R', he begins to think that he might even be able to hope for more than he'd ever imagined. But he soon learns that people want different things out of life and it's not just about finding someone you love and who loves you back, but someone whose life is completed by having you in it.

This is the story of Jace before he met Ben in Something Like Summer and overlaps some with the events of that book.

I...don't even know where to begin. I've read the previous two books so I knew how Jace's story ends, but this is such an adventure that I was gripped to every page and every word as I read it. It was great to get a deeper understanding of Jace, since we really only see him through Ben's eyes (and a bit through Tim's) and don't get to see his perspective previous to this. And understanding his past, his history with Victor, and everything else, adds a layer to his story with Ben that isn't there in the previous installments.

It didn't matter that I knew a part of Jace's story. It didn't matter that I knew how it ends. It still hurt so fucking much.

But, you know, a good kinda hurt and all that.
