About this ebook
“Hot grease, sharp knives, infidelity, and white truffles….The Hunger has all the right ingredients….The best memoir by a chef since Kitchen Confidential.”
—Jay McInerney
The Hunger is the page-turning memoir from John DeLucie, chef of THE celebrity hot spot restaurant in New York City, The Waverly Inn. With an introduction by Graydon Carter, legendary Editor of Vanity Fair, The Hunger is an unabashed celebration of hard work and the good life that Anthony Bourdain fans will simply eat up—a feast for foodies that author Salman Rushdie calls, “A delightful book….I recommend it to anyone interested in good food—and good stories.”

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A solid no-frills food memoir about the chaotic world of fine dining and the scary choices you sometimes have to make to realize your dreams.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Chef-owner John Delucie provides his version of the inside look at the New York/Metro restaurant industry. If you're a fan of chef memoirs there isn't much here you haven't already read (although I have to thank him for keeping his use of "in the weeds," which is fast becoming a cliche, to a minimum). His tale alternates between his early years after graduating from a cooking course and beginning his career at Dean & DeLuca and the story of the development and opening of The Waverly Inn. DeLucie's personal and professional life is sometimes exciting and interesting, sometimes sad and harsh, but there's something about the way he tells it that keeps you reading to find out how it ends. In terms of style it's a cut above many books about the cooking life that are currently available, and it makes a quick, interesting read.
