    Detoxify Your 'Self'

Make no mistake about it, this meal plan is extreme. You won't find many 'meal' programs that don't have soy, G.M.O.'s, dairy or gluten. If you want to start living a detox lifestyle, free from toxins, preservatives, additives, refined sugar and highly processed foods, you've found what you're looking for. This plan will show you exactly how to do that.

You hear so much about detoxes, all controversial in my eyes. They are good, they're bad, beneficial, detrimental, all the same, who's right who's wrong? I'm not against detoxes, I don't think they're all that bad for you but I'm not sure they're all that good for you either. To me it's better to take care of yourself all the time by living a life free from toxins and following a detoxified diet. Paying attention to what you put IN your body is equally important as what you put ON your body. It is my strong belief that living a detox life is the answer to preventing health problems rather than using treatment in reaction to them. I do get that living a detoxified life isn't always going to be possible because it doesn't matter where we go, toxins are everywhere. We all need a break from our detox and that is perfectly understandable. My belief is that we try to live a detoxified life the majority of the time and use reasonable common sense to judge and choose the best and 'least' toxic options to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

I do not see the point of going through an intense fast for only a few days and then returning back to your regular habits of eating. Instead, it would make more sense to me if we began slowly by reducing the number of toxins we consume in our daily lives rather than going back to consuming the exact same toxins we were eating before a 'detox'. Wouldn't it make more sense to make slow but consistent adjustments to your diet? What about cutting out just one toxin, just one, and moving on from there? Wouldn't that make more sense?

Perhaps educating ourselves is the first step to living a detox lifestyle. Unfortunately, most of us are unaware of what goes into our bodies and feel that it's near impossible to avoid consuming the toxins all around us. Day in and day out, we continue to unknowingly put toxins in and on our bodies. Many of us assume that products such as toothpaste, water, soap, creams and lotions are cleaning our bodies. Sorry folks there's chemicals in all of these things, and they are constantly polluting our bodies with toxins.

Our bodies would love to flush out such toxins but we first must make a conscious effort to stop putting them into our bodies. This isn't as overwhelming as it may sound however, if we stop looking for quick fixes, weekend fasts, or 21 days to glory, etc. and begin by making small long-term changes. For example, making simple and achievable changes such as reading ingredients and eating more organic foods.

Unfortunately, we always wait far too long before we do anything about an issue. If it's health we wait till the good doc tells us we have a real problem, take this medication and hopefully the side affects don't outweigh your initial problem. We feel sick and miserable so we try a quick detox and expect to feel like a 20 year old in a couple days; we treat the environment worse than we could fathom treating another human being and now everyone has to 'go green' to pretend they care.

This is all a system of how we think, how we do things, how we react to problems or situations and how we live everyday life.

Do I think a detox could help, maybe. There's likely a good chance of it. Do I think it will solve our problems? Absolutely not. Not until we take responsibility for how we treat the only body we have, with every choice we make. Not until we cut out toxins that go in and on our body, and not until we educate ourselves and make ourselves believe the truth.

    A True Form Testimonial

I use to eat two to three low calorie meals a day, living what I believed to be a balanced and healthy lifestyle. I actually thought it was beneficial not to eat breakfast and I considered complete meals to be crackers and cheese, veggie wraps, veggies and hummus and even popcorn. I honestly believed I was doing all the right things but found myself frustrated because I wasn't seeing the results I wanted, even though I lived an active lifestyle.

When I joined True Form in June 2011, Drew explained to me that I should be eating 5-6 meals a day to keep my metabolism actively running. At first, I was not convinced that eating more food would get me the results I was after. Drew encouraged me to start by adding one meal a day so I hesitantly began eating breakfast. To my surprise, after just a short period of time, I began to see small results. I had more energy at workout, my pants were getting looser and I was happier. I decided to add more meals throughout the day until eventually I was eating 6 small meals a day. I wouldn't have believed that I could achieve the results I wanted by eating more food but I tried so many other things and nothing worked until I did just that.

After increasing my meals I started looking at the ingredients in the food that I was consuming and to my surprise most of the food that I considered to be healthy at the time were in fact highly processed and full of chemicals and toxins. I felt deceived in a way because all that time I thought I was making better choices by choosing food that was advertised with 0% fat, no sugar, light etc. Then I began to think about the processing stages of certain food. I began to ask myself what happens to food in order to get to that state or what toxins have been added? This is when I decided I deserved more and I wanted to know exactly what I was putting in my body. My journey through True Form's lifestyle detox began then.

Eating clean, natural, whole food has led me to results that I once dreamed about. I have lost 20 pounds and I went from a size 12 to a size 4. I've never been in such great shape, never felt better or had more energy, nor have I ever bought a size 4.

I would encourage anyone who is challenged with similar circumstances and wants results, to start a detox lifestyle. Now my body craves real, natural, whole food. I never would have believed someone telling me this until I actually tried it and found out for myself. I believe that if I never changed the way I ate I wouldn't be in the shape I am today. I'd still be in that rut yo-yoing back and forth.

Since living a detox lifestyle I've accomplished things I would never have dreamed about before: I've participated in two obstacle races, two half marathons and entered my first fitness competition. I don't plan on stopping there either! My next challenge is to partake in a triathlon.
