A native Detroiter by birth, I left the Motor City in 2001 for the Netherlands with my husband (a chiropractor) and my small children. In December of 2003, we moved again, this time to Ireland. While there, I took part in a mentorship program with the Irish author, Lia Mills, who helped me in making the transition from poetry to prose and from writing verses in poems to writing chapters in novels. In August 2006, we relocated yet again to the Netherlands. Now, if only I was fluent in Dutch . . .The upside of this nomadic lifestyle is that I have much more time than I would have had in the states to spend with my writing. My non-fiction piece, Binder Clips, won first place at the 2002 Feed the Writers Weekend in Amsterdam, and my chapter book, Kissy Frog, won an Honorable Mention in the 2006 W.I.N. Competition. I have also had numerous poems published online and in print literary journals, and several have won awards, including a chapbook shortlisted for the 2005 Listowel Writer's Week Poetry Competition. I am a member of SCBWI and IrishPen, and I have a BA in English/Creative Writing.Summoning is my first published novel.

    CHAPTER 1

Prince Jack was a pain. A royal pain to be exact, and Gwendolyn would know.

Catch! Jack bounced his ball toward Gwendolyn. It hit a rock and sailed through the air bashing right into Gwendolyn’s ear.

Her crown flew off her head, bumped down the path and plopped into the pond.

Look what you did, Jack! That’s the second crown you’ve knocked into that pond this week! Gwendolyn said rubbing her ear.

Not wanting to explain this one to their father, the King, she hiked up her skirts and waded into the mucky water.

    Ribbit.

What was that? Gwendolyn looked around.

    Ribbit.

There, perched on a half-submerged lily pad, was a frog. A frog wearing a crown!

Give that back. Gwendolyn leaped after it, tripped and fell under the water. When she came up, she was face to face with the frog. She stood up and pushed her dripping hair out of her eyes.

That was when she realized the crown was much too small to be hers.

Are you a prince? She held her hand out gently, and the frog hopped onto it. Well, as everyone knows, a princess's kiss will change a royal frog into a royal human. Or was it the other way around? Oh, it doesn't matter. I can’t leave Prince Charming doomed to be a frog forever, now can I?

Gwendolyn brought the slimy creature closer to her pursed lips. She closed her eyes and kissed the top of its cold, wet head.

Swish! Swirl! Whirl! Glittering sparks jumped and burst in the air
