      This leadership book is the result of a great deal of research, life long learning and exploration.

      I dedicate the book to my Father Col Gray who was a solid role model for myself, my family, and I feel sure his workmates. His humble approach to the many things he did, and his principled ways, will always be with me. As you will soon discover in this book, he was a major part of my Leadership journey.

      After years of teaching Leadership to local Managers, Supervisors and Business People, It became evident to me I was in my element, providing information which was dear to my heart.

      I got the chance to develop a leadership text for this class which went from 45 pages for the first group I taught to 145 pages for the next group in a short time frame and I feel sure the students received much more than they bargained for as I spent 10 weeks preparing them to be Exceptional Leaders based around that text.

      I’m sure I upset a few people along the way, because leadership is not always an easy topic that all people agree on, but I can rest assured I caused a great deal of discussion to take place!

      Finally a HUGE thanks to Paula Scott for Editing this for me, clearly a very patient person with a passion for words.

      Welcome to the Seven Steps to Leadership Excellence

      Hello … and congratulations!

      I’m honoured you’ve made the decision to include my Leadership How To Manual, as part of your path to Leadership Excellence.

      As I’m sure you know, becoming a leader in today’s business climate is no longer an option – it’s a necessity.

      Knowing how to ‘manage’ people or projects isn’t enough.

      Knowing how to be The Boss isn’t enough.

      Being politically astute, isn’t enough, although it helps.

      Success in today’s business world, demands you learn and practice being an EXCELLENT or EXCEPTIONAL leader, regardless of your position or career.

      My task as I see it, is to set you up for a lifetime of success in Leadership roles. You’ll learn what it takes to be an effective, results-achieving leader in today’s hectic world.

      You’ll learn the tips, strategies and secrets I’ve collected through years of painstaking observation and research on excellent Leadership skills.

      Your job? Simple! Get comfortable. Open your mind, read, explore, apply… and succeed.

      Throughout my career, I’ve been fascinated by the subject of Leadership – the difference between great leaders and marginal ones. The difference between those who consistently get the results they go after. And those who falter and all the rest in between!

      What I’ve discovered is this: some leaders are born, but MOST are made. I believe it’s true, Leadership can be a LEARNED skill.

      Are you in your first Leadership role right now? Or have you been leading for a while? I hope you have had a great Leadership mentor or effective training in Leadership. This is what inspires you to do more of the right things to get more of the right results.
