    When there is no place for me,

    in my own house,

    in my own bed,

    I look to the end of the driveway

    and imagine myself sitting there,

    curled in around myself,

    hands wrapped around my knees.

    Just there,

    in the center

    with my toes along the crack.

    Not here,

    nor there.

    Chicks and Stones

    Won’t Break My Bones

    One day we went looking

    for Kent’s missing shoes

    all over the house.

    Instead, daddy found

    two chicken eggs Orion had hidden

    under the upstairs bed.

    I laughed and I laughed

    and he scowled

    so I laughed some more.
