About this ebook

"Refreshing and clearly to the point Michael presents keys to transitioning from the Traditional Mind to The Organic Mind with refreshing clarity!"
- Francesca Lauria (MA Transpersonal Psychotherapist)

What’s the difference between the Traditional Mind and the Organic Mind? Put simply, the former has boundaries and the latter has complete freedom. Not only does The Organic Mind reveal what you need to embrace this energy; it also tells you how to do it. This book is the result of more than thirty years’ research by a curious mind. The formula is so simple that you can reach this state of mind with your eyes shut.

Michael Morel began writing in 2000 when he discovered the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle he had been putting together all his life. Twenty-five years earlier he had asked the question: God, what is life all about? In his desire to share this knowledge with others, he has written a number of books and manuals on the subject of life.

He is a Guinness World Record Holder for speaking skills (the world’s longest lecture on life, 1999), a storyteller and a proficient guest speaker.

    PREFACE

I am just an ordinary bloke, a carpenter by trade, who has been blessed with some extraordinary experiences. At the time of writing I’m beginning a three-month rest period after having a new heart valve installed, which to me is like putting the ‘Earth vehicle’ into the garage for a reconditioned motor.

At seventy-six, I have long passed that time in life which had me measuring, sawing and banging in nails to create buildings, but although I may have lost many of my physical skills the urge to create something still flows from my heart.

Looking back, there’s no doubt in my mind that one of the main reasons for my need for surgery was a lack of knowledge about how I actually functioned as a human being. This was no doubt due, in part, to a similar ignorance on the part of my parents, and my parents’ parents, for we are all subject to conditioning of some kind or another as we begin to explore that wonder of wonders we call life.

Add to this a stressful early life that included an addiction to tobacco and alcohol, as well as physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse, and I can be certain that the most vital organ in my body—my heart—was put under unnecessary strain. Fortunately the energy responsible for my birth on the planet has also played the role of rescuer, guide, mentor and healer, and has given me this opportunity to reassess my journey and make plans for my next adventure.

As human beings we all have much in common, so I hope that a few of my ideas and experiences may fill in some gaps for you (and be entertaining and informative at the same time), even to the extent of converting your mind from Traditional to Organic.

As Earth faces the challenges of climate change, earthquakes, floods, a growing population and ongoing violence, the seeds of organic farming have begun to come to fruition. So it is too, I believe, with the human mind. To survive as a species we need to change our way of thinking, not in isolated pockets of humanity but throughout the entire planet. As with all change, this adaptation of the mind will happen slowly, but happen it must, and we will see the completion of the cycle from seed, to plant, to fruit.

All ideas begin in the mind, so it is to the mind we must return to clear the weeds, nourish the soil and work with nature. As with builders, we need a plan to work from, the tools to create the structure and the cooperation of our fellow workers. We might call this project The Restructuring of Society.

If we start tomorrow, it would only take three generations to complete.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

This book is the result of my experiences, which have not yet concluded. I have much more to accomplish before I leave the planet. At this stage of my journey, however, I need to give thanks; firstly, to the unseen hand that has guided my life throughout the years and whispered words of wisdom for my ears only. I don’t profess to know from where this guidance has come but I do know it exists and that if I can tap into it, anyone can.

Of the five men who have also played significant roles in my life, the first is my father, for he sowed the seed that gave me this life. I did not love him, nor did I even respect him, but, eventually, I grew to understand him and the reason for his often-violent behaviour towards me. I see now that he was a tortured soul with no outlet for his problems except the church, which did little to lighten his burden—only his purse.

The second was a kindly man who, for the five years of my apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery, kept a fatherly eye on me. He did not drink alcohol, was a jolly man, and he encouraged and praised me. I would have done anything for this man; meanwhile my biological father sank further into the muddy mire of alcohol.

I met the next and probably most important man at the age of thirty-nine when I was contemplating taking my own life. To quote a Buddhist proverb: When the student is ready the teacher will appear. The words this man spoke to me I have carried around in my heart from the day he uttered them: ‘Fear,’ he told me, ‘is like an inverted pyramid, with the point bearing down on you. We can remove some layers but they’ll return unless we cut away the keystone first. If we do this with a single blow, the pyramid will fall and we’ll be able to rebuild it.’ I could vividly see this picture in my mind’s eye all those years ago and I can see it now. This man put me on the pathway to learning; a path I still tread. Although his life on Earth has ended, he played his role well and I will forever be grateful to him.

The next man appeared in my life twenty-five years later. He was in his early eighties and a self-professed ‘expert’ in the art of meditation. Although his teachings did not complete my education, his very presence and the information he gave me have allowed me to progress—with the help of my invisible guides—to my final destination.

Which brings me to the last man to whom I owe thanks. Although I was with him for only a few hours, I owe my life to him. Through his skill as a surgeon he has given me extra time to complete my journey. My heartfelt thanks go to him.

    What more can I say?

Except that I must also make mention of the few women in my life who have played a part on my personal stage.

Firstly, my mother, who gave me free lodgings for nine months and no doubt put up with much pain during my birth, for I was a healthy baby weighing in at over eight pounds (3.6 kilograms) and she was a small woman who knew little about life or childbirth. She once told me that the only reason she and my father had children was to have someone to care for them in their old age. This was the thirties, when children were told to be seen and not heard, so no cuddles or motherly love there—undoubtedly the reason why I went looking for a substitute.

I got more than I bargained for with my first wife. Along with the warmth came a multitude of problems: emotional, physical and sexual. It was a difficult period in my life but a necessary one: it taught me much about life. Had I had the information then that I have now, no doubt my choice of partner would have been different.

Then there is the woman in my life at the moment. I have known her for more than thirty years, and while she still doesn’t understand me she loves me nonetheless.

I do like women, and I can’t understand those men who mistreat them. Women are the givers of life, the teachers and the healers.

    INTRODUCTION

As a young man I never questioned where I came from or the reason for my existence, content at that point in my life to believe that ‘God’ made me, to love him and serve him in this world, and to be happy forever with him in the next.

These were the first seeds sown in my traditional Catholic mind in the 1940s: seeds passed down from generation to generation. My mind did not belong to me but to some unseen, mysterious entity that not only had the power to cause life and death but to create heaven and hell as well. Much later in life I came to understand that this conditioning (or control by fear) has been part of civilisation for centuries.

Fear is not welcome in the Organic Mind. Fear is a noxious weed that has become immune to the ‘chemicals’ that would destroy it. Fear has now reached plague proportions and, if not checked, has the power to destroy mankind. The manifestation of this energy that we label fear is pain, violence, sickness, greed, envy and numerous other negative states of mind or being, including death.

I was sixty-four years old before I discovered that the mind functions in association with the spoken, silent and written word, but I have covered this subject is greater detail in my previous books. My inspiration for writing The Organic Mind came initially from a TV program I watched about the development of organic yoghurt on a farm in Canada. In the program a college graduate posed the question: How could they change from traditional farming to organic farming yet remain profitable, while, at the same time, helping the environment return to a healthier and more natural state?

Before an answer can be found to any perceived problem, one must first ask a question. The mind, I have discovered, is a powerful energy but it needs to be harnessed, understood and directed in order to become our servant and not our master.

Using the same model as the Canadian program, our question might be: By what process can mankind make the transition from using the Traditional Mind to embracing the Organic Mind, without losing the wonderful creative qualities we have developed over many centuries?

Desired outcome: A society in which all are equal and have ample opportunity to use their creative energy to develop a peaceful Earth free from wars, violence, sickness or poverty.

Sound impossible? It isn’t. As one great prophet said, ‘All things are possible if only you believe.’

    KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

1 THE TRADITIONAL MIND / THE ORGANIC MIND

The present structure of civilisation is pyramidal, as it has been for centuries. It is layered from apex to base, and a few control many. The masses at the bottom have been conditioned to support the minority at the top. In today’s society we call this ‘multi-level marketing’, which, in theory, is illegal.

If we use the telescope of the Organic Mind to view past history, we can clearly see that there have always been masters and slaves, and although we’re not manacled at hands and feet, many of us are still confined by the threat of sin, and most of us are bound by the invisible bonds of ignorance.

When slaves are freed after a life of being in the control of others, they likely feel unsure, scared and lost if they’re not given sufficient information and guidance to begin new lives and to take full responsibility for themselves. Many would prefer the bonds of the security of slavery rather than face the prospect of failure. In my opinion the vast majority of the world’s population are slaves, albeit better fed, clothed and housed than the actual slaves we read about in history books.

When considering the Traditional Mind, there are many parallels between modern life and slavery, for the mind is not free. The Traditional Mind—the mind that is confined by boundaries, rules, regulations and laws—has limitations. In contrast, the Organic Mind—the mind that knows no boundaries—is totally free and guided by universal wisdom.

Without entering into a debate about how we evolved as a species, for the purposes of this discussion let us accept that we are simply human beings. Yet not just ‘simply’: we are, in fact, a brilliant manifestation of an idea by someone or something. In my opinion there is no such thing as coincidence, luck or fate; rather, all manifestations (which we label reality) are the results of a plan put into motion by energy.

The Traditional Mind is what we use to instruct using language as a tool. The subconscious mind is the intermediary between the Traditional Mind and the super-conscious mind. When all three work in harmony—the Traditional Mind, the subconscious and the super-conscious—the result is the Organic Mind.

Pause for a moment and look at yourself in the mirror. Take stock of who you are, of all you’ve achieved so far in your life; then give thought to the invisible intelligence beyond the self that has brilliance beyond the sun. This unseen force makes up your body and its millions of parts, all of which have a role on that stage we call life.

Using the Traditional Mind, you don’t have to give instructions to your body on how to function because it already knows what to do to keep you alive. You go about your daily tasks, blissfully unaware of what’s going on inside your head. Indeed, you have complete trust in your brain. So trustful are you that you allow your body to go to sleep for eight hours every night knowing that you’ll be looked after during this time.

If you could only trust your mind in a similar manner, you would be totally free. You would have converted to using the Organic Mind (or natural intelligence) as I have done. I have dwelt in this state of mind for more than a decade now, and having dwelt in both worlds I know which I prefer. Once you’ve embraced the organic way, you will have absolutely no desire to return to the old ways. It’s impossible to describe accurately the state of mind I’m talking about, but I’m sure you’ll recognise some of the labels, including nirvana, bliss, contentment and peace. None of these labels do it justice.

I think of it as ‘being there’: there being the spot between a rock
