About this ebook

Would you like just once to be the one sitting back and making a profit instead of the one worrying about whether this will be the week your business is going to have to close its doors?

Recession is the word that no politician wants to use if he or she is in office. When the economy goes into a recession, companies lay off workers and jobs become scarce. If you are like most people, you have a number of fixed costs that you can’t simply stop paying without dire consequences.

While recessions are always tough, careful planning and small sacrifices in good times -- can help prepare you for the bad times.

This book will help you come out on top in this recession while you take control of your own life. It is full of content-rich material to help you empower your entire family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues -- while you save your home, stay in the workplace, start your own business, and hold the community accountable. It provides the tools you need to make a profit while you get back into the driver’s seat. Good luck!

    About the Author

PREFACE – A NOTE TO THE READER

You may not be standing in bread lines, but more and more people are lying awake at night worried about their jobs, their money and their future.

Are you sick of keeping your head above water? Are you sick and tired of counting your pennies? Looking for a way to be free of the constant fear that one day you’re going to walk into your office and find a pink slip sitting there waiting for you? Would you like just once to be the one sitting back and making a profit instead of the one worrying about whether this will be the week your business is going to have to close its doors?

Recession is the word that no politician wants to use if he or she is in office. When the economy goes into a recession, companies lay off workers and jobs become scarce. If you are like most people, you have a number of fixed costs that you can’t simply stop paying without dire consequences.

While recessions are always tough, careful planning and small sacrifices in good times, can help prepare you for the bad times.

Good luck!

CHAPTER 1: HOW TO EMPOWER YOURSELF

Boost Your Immune System: Remember, You Can’t Be Wealthy if You are Not Healthy and Your Health is Your Wealth! Any sickness will probably side-track you and cause you to lose focus from your dreams! In order to be able to help yourself, your family and the entire community, you need to boost your immune system so that you never get sick. If you have more than two colds a year, it means you have a weak immune system.

Get Regular Exercise: People who get regular exercise are healthier, mentally as well as physically and spiritually, than people who don’t. They live longer! They’re happier! Their brains even work better! Exercise need not cost you a penny, whereas poor health is very expensive. If a serious recession has any silver lining, it’s the realization it brings that your quality of life is largely up to YOU.

Most gym memberships are only $20 to $30 a month (Gold’s Gym, LA Fitness, YMCA, etc.). You do not have to sign a contract which means you can stop (or freeze) your membership. Commit to exercising for at least 3 or 4 days a week for 30 to 45 minutes – if not more.

Do cardiovascular (or cardio) exercises that get your heart rate up for 30 minutes and keep it up such as walking, jogging, biking/spinning, swimming, aerobics, etc. Strength training is important if you are trying to lose weight or strengthen your bones especially as you age.

Get a Complete Physical: Get a complete physical every year from head to toe with a Lipid Profile, also called a Lipid Panel, with a 12 hour fast, to check your numbers to make sure they are in range such as your total cholesterol (good and bad cholesterol); blood glucose (blood sugar); triglycerides; blood pressure; iron; potassium; kidneys; liver; thyroid; etc. Ask for a copy of these results and compare them every year when you get your physical.

Know Your Numbers and Save Your Life: We are all obsessed with numbers in our lives - our age, our weight, our height, etc. But there are some numbers that can literally save your life, but only if you know what they are and understand what they really mean. The goal is to make sure your numbers stay in range.

    Your important numbers include:

Cholesterol: Your total cholesterol level should be below 200 (HDL/Good Cholesterol should be 50 for women and 40 for men and LDL/Bad Cholesterol should be below 100 for both).

Blood Glucose (Blood Sugar): Blood glucose should be below 100 (125 is pre-diabetes).

Triglycerides: Triglycerides should be below 150.

Blood Pressure: Blood pressure should be below 120/80 (140/90 is high and 130/80 is high if you have diabetes and you should be on medications to lower the number). Ideally you want a blood pressure of 115/75.

Waist Size: A woman’s waist size should be 35 inches or less and a man’s waist size should be 40 inches or less. Your waist size should be half your
