Running On Empty How to Avoid Adrenal Fatigue - Anne Clark
More and more I see the results of stress and worry in humanity and our global community. This is what I refer to as ‘Adrenal Fatigue’ or ‘Burn-out’!
I have written this book with ‘you’ in mind all the way as I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed, stressed, tired and exhausted. I also know what it’s like to feel fantastic, alive, vibrant and optimistic.
The irony is, one can swing between these two human experiences as quickly as a sunny day can turn to a raging storm. The skill is knowing how to switch on the former experience which is the feeling fantastic, vibrant and optimistic part so that you are in that state more often. When one is stressed (raging storm), this is when the adrenal fatigue sets in and does its evil!
I’m going to show you how to turn on the ‘sunshine’ in your life. I’m going to explain to you why creating the chemistry and state of optimism is conducive to better health. You may think this is such an obvious state to strive for yet this state eludes so many of us.
I’m sure you want to invite more bliss into your life, and to your absolute relief, I’m happy to say that this doesn’t have to be painful. On the contrary I’m going to show you a way to have less pain and more gain. I know that sounds like a ‘sports equipment commercial!’. However, it’s true; my objective is to educate and enhance your confidence in creating a more stress-less lifestyle by giving you the tools to operate in confidence so you can create a chemistry of wellness in your own body.
This book is going to be a fun, thought provoking and a useful experience for you! By the time you read through the following chapters you are going to have a very practical knowledge of not only how stress affects the adrenal glands but you will know what to do about preserving the life and condition of this little known floppy mass of glands, tissues and cells that sit on top of each Kidney inside your body and their link to everything hormonal, expressed and perceived. You are going to know confidently how to avoid ‘adrenal fatigue’.
Ah yes the Adrenal Glands will be uncovered. Essential fatty acids will be introduced as the best friend of the Adrenal Glands and we will learn together how to make meals and snacks that support not only our every-day mental decisions but our overall wellness. See it’s going to be inspirational!
I intend to clearly outline what the adrenal glands are, what they do and how it’s worth your while to know more about this part of your amazing anatomy.
Read my introduction as every sentence in this book is my truth to you and it will help you get in the mood for a life change.

About Anne Clark
Introduction
I find myself at a time in life where I am questioning everything I hear or see with child-like fascination followed by mature caution and evaluation. I would suggest that you approach this book in the same manner and approach the concepts I am sharing with you in these pages with an open mind. Then you will be able to put the advice into action, after careful evaluation of course.
As soon as possible put into place an action plan so that this book becomes worthwhile to you. My suggested objective is for you to have command over your mind, the greatest asset you will ever have in your life.
If you have purchased this book thinking that you will be reading about ‘running without any food in your body’, I’m sorry you have the wrong idea. The term ‘Running on Empty’ has different meaning to me and I have a different definition for you.
What is ‘Running on Empty’? My definition; being busy in mind and body and not allowing enough time for meditation, reflection and peace in one’s life. Running on empty is pushing the body to extremes, saying ‘Yes’, when you really needed to say ‘No’. Doing things to please others and putting one’s own health at risk. It is eating foods that are not nourishing to the mind or body, instead aggravating to the digestive system and the bowel.
Running on empty could be working in a job or career that does not serve you emotionally or physically, but doing it anyway because you ‘need the money’ or should I say, you have told yourself you ‘need the money’. It’s another form of procrastination, and I say that here without any judgement, because we’ve all done it.
Running on empty is exhausting the adrenal glands, by living in a constant state of stress and activity. Being a ‘human doing’, instead of a ‘human being’.
I’m not saying that being a human doing is necessarily a bad thing; however it can be destructive for you and those around you if you keep up this high pace that only serves to turn you into a machine rather than someone who is flesh and blood. So provided you have incorporated a little of that valuable down time that you need to be super restored and creative in other aspects of your existence being a ‘human doing’ for certain periods of time is necessary too.
Life is not all about existing, it’s about experiencing and reflecting and then experiencing a little more.
Life is joy and living in an aware state, while embracing the beliefs and values that serve humanity and leave no destruction in its wake. The destruction bit is clearly defined by personal definition and perceptions. For example, if you are someone who has chosen to breed cattle for slaughter and human consumption, it may be hard for ‘me’ to form a meaningful relationship with you (because I am vegetarian), but I certainly wouldn’t force violence on you just because I don’t approve of your occupation. What so often happens in our society is that people inflict the same sort of intolerance on others because they don’t believe in what they are doing, and create a spiritual dysfunction in themselves with their protest. It’s not about fighting or campaigning for change, which only brings about more disease. It’s more about being the change you wish for the world. I believe Ghandi said this to society with his own life decades ago. We can’t hear this enough. It’s not so much do as I say, but more do as I do, and let’s see what ripples of peace and joy we can create in our lives.
I am someone who has run on empty at various times, trying to do too much, too often. I’ve always had a fascination about how my body works, and now I find the mind is just as fascinating. The final frontier in the inner understanding of what makes us all tick!
I believe the most important element of health and wellbeing is ‘the mental time out’, and everything I have experienced and learnt up until this point has proven this to be so. I’m looking forward to sharing some information here in this body of text, now my 18th book, which may be valuable or even crucial for your health journey to be a positive one.
I may not have read a book like this in my early 20’s; however this version of truth could only come from me at this time in my life. You may be drawn to this subject matter because you have run on empty or have come to a place in your life where you need some answers for why your body and mind are behaving in certain ways.
I’ve created many life enriched recipes in the past and shared them with various folk for guidance in health and wellbeing through my books. You will find I have included a few new ideas and combinations in this book. I’ve always maintained that the best food is the simplest food and you are only as healthy as your last meal!
An avocado cut in half, sprinkled with Himalayan salt and served with a spray of Braggs Liquid Aminos or Braggs Organic Sprinkle (24 herbs and spices seasoning) for extra flavour, can be so delightful and so nutritious, yet simple.
I’m satisfied with this perfect meal because it is PERFECT! We complicate our food too much, so I’m going to elaborate more on this in the food chapter along with Omega 3’s and essential fatty acids. I can’t possibly do this book without referring to their purpose and link to good mental health and clarity, calmness and focus.
I’m putting a bit on the line for this book. One of them being that my own mother has Frontal Lobe Dementia, and as I write lives out her final time in a ‘high care’ nursing facility in Victoria. Many of my friends in my age group have parents with Alzheimer’s and Dementia or some form of mental illness, which seems to be on the increase in our society. I can’t help but think that dehydration and sugar have some part to play in all this. So I will be enlightening you on my theories why this is so.
I have written about aromatherapy in previous books like ‘7 Solutions to a Mould Free Home’, ‘Lose Weight While You Sleep and Eat’ and ‘The Art of Wellness’ compilation. In this book I will be introducing you to some special essential oils that uplift the mood and help you to change state. We need every bit of help we can get when it comes to emotional support and calming the tormented mind. Using uplifting smells through aromatherapy is a great start. There’s a little personal secretary to the brain that we all know as the ‘Olfactory nerve’. I would like to suggest you become more acquainted with the olfactory nerve, as you will begin to understand why ‘smell’ and scents are so important for healing, shifting state and changing mood.
I have also connected with a number of people who are working in ‘mental health’ units and interviewed them for more clarity and truth around the matter of why we have the social situations we have today, and how we could turn it around.
We are going to be exploring quite a lot of my theories on adrenal fatigue and stress. I know you will get something out of it, so without further ado, find your comfy reading place and let’s get into it. Oh and just a note on the ‘blessings’ word, which you will see throughout this book, I use this word all the time to finish correspondence to friends on letters and blogs and even newsletters. Why? Because I am sending a blessing to you and one back to me every time. Whenever I read that word I count my blessings, I’m grateful that I have
