    Chapter 1

We are connected, my love. Wherever I am, I will always come back to you. These were the words that were being said in her ear, so soft, as if they were floating on the wind. The arms that were holding her were so firm, and the man towering over her was the most important thing in her world. She could not see his face, the sun was in her eyes and she closed them. Engulfed in the arms of this man, she felt that everything was right. Suddenly, she felt herself being yanked hard to the ground by her hair, and her ears rang from the echo of the thud of her body hitting the ground. Something was placed around her neck and it was getting tighter. The harder she fought the more restricted her breath became, and the arms that folded around her in love were replaced by rough hands almost tearing into her skin. A few feet away from her, she could hear the man yelling for her, and she hurriedly reached out to the panicked voice, screaming, screaming loudly for her and cursing the arms that restricted him. Soon the yelling became dim, the light slowly began to fade until there was nothing but darkness and then finally, a very loud and rapid beeping.

Eight o’ clock on the nose was the usual time that Dr. Marley Sinclair awoke each and every morning. Fatigued from a rigorous work schedule, there was never enough time for her to get a proper amount of sleep before she would have to get up again. But lately, she wasn’t even getting to enjoy those few hours as she’d been disturbed for three weeks by the same nightmare. Her being pulled and knocked around by people that she did not know, away from a man that she could never see. It was starting to get on her nerves and once more affect her ability to prepare for the day, but she would soldier through. She had to, for the sake of the unveiling of an exhibit that featured work from a recent discovery she’d made in Nepal. It was in less than twenty-four hours, and it was the biggest find of her career.

A beautiful young woman, she stood five feet and eight inches tall, her skin was the color or fresh ground cinnamon and her brown eyes were a gorgeous almond shape. Where ever she walked everyone seemed to notice her long curly black hair that would linger just past her shoulders when it was curly, but cascade down her back when it was straightened or wet. A lot of people that knew her didn’t understand why she was single, as gorgeous as she was, she could have her pick of any man she wanted. She was most known for her purple rimmed glasses, which she’d put on every single day at the office. They were hidden underneath her desk in the last drawer, everyone knew that it wasn’t going to be a good day if she didn’t have her glasses. They were rather large, about thirty years out of style, and didn’t really flatter her face But when her colleagues suggested that she buy a new pair often times she would ignore them. They were valuable to her. That was one of her admirable traits. She was very sentimental about some things, while she could care less about others.

Young, driven, and equipped with an Ivy League education, a twenty-three years old Marley Lynn Sinclair had become the youngest person to join the most elite team of researchers of ancient cultures. In college she’d studied anthropology and ancient cultures. In her search for the world’s hidden secrets and treasures she’d become interested in biblical archeology, under the very man who’d discovered pieces of Noah’s Ark.  Her work ethic was not usual for a woman her age.  In college she was at the top of her class. She never ceased to ask questions, and that was what made her so valuable to her fellow scholars. Her curiosity would lead her to whatever she wanted out of life.

When most people are out drinking, partying and screwing their lives away, Marley was always in front of a book, or writing on a piece of paper, perfecting some type of research. She didn’t care to do those types of things, and really didn’t understand why other people devoted so much of their time to stupidity. To her a little socializing did not hurt, but when it affects the work that one had to produce to earn their living, it was probably time to stop doing it, or in her case, not do it at all. Even relationships had taken a back seat at this point in her life, she did not worry about dumb ideas like soul mates and other types of ridiculousness. Five years later, she was preparing to unveil her own discovery of stone tablets that were linked to the lost tribes of Israel. This was a big event for her, and she needed to be on top of her game. A discovery like this would solidify her position in the world of academia forever, and she didn’t want to blow it because she didn’t get enough sleep and flubbed her work. No, not right now, this was too important. With that thought in mind she quickly hopped in her shower, threw on her two piece suit with the pencil skirt and her black three inch pumps, and headed to the museum.

The museum was in an uproar, everywhere she walked, there was someone dusting, sweeping, mopping, or waxing something; floor to ceiling. Her exhibit was coming together, over three hundred guests were to attend, and that did not include all of the camera crews, and journalists that would be there to speak with her. BBC was on deck, along with CNN world news, and even Oprah Winfrey would be there in all of her splendor. Marley’s heart was thumping out of her chest when she reflected on how much of her hard word had paid off. A pet project that she’d secretly been working on since she’d come to grad school, had become a huge pay off.

This was going to be her crowning achievement. Never in the world of research has a woman (let alone a woman under the age of thirty) made such a magnificent discovery, one that would rock the very nature of humanity and religion. Everyone who was anyone in the world would now know that she had been the one responsible for this revelation, and Marley beamed with pride when she thought of all of the history books that would have to be re-written with the information she had now presented and brought back evidence of. History fanatics all over the world would now cite her work in their thesis and she would be the sole source of powerful academia until the time came for her to pass it on and she herself was gone.

In Marley Sinclair’s mind there was nothing better than that; not money, not sex, and not even love could overshadow what she’d just brought to the world. Despite the fact, that it sounded like her ego was getting the best of her, she was very humbled at these thoughts and knew that she was now shouldering a heavy responsibility. She was now one of those giants that others would
