The novel explores the modern office environment and the many personality clashes that occur within it, sometimes comic, sometimes tragicomic, as well as questions relating to the use of social media that sit over every manager’s head, and within every employee’s grasp. Set in Melbourne, Australia, it is also the story of an immigrant trying to fit into a culture where no one really fits but where everyone belongs. As such, Dea Buda, the novel, 'reboots' 'They're a Weird Mob,' the popular Australian comic novel written by John O'Grady under the pseudonym 'Nino Culotta.'
