About this ebook

Innkeeper Chronicles #2
Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance.
Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn...and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper… “Andrews is an auto-buy no matter what the genre!” —Romantic Times

Ilona Andrews

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian, and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored four New York Times and USA Today bestselling series: the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

Sweep in Peace picks up 6 months after the events of Clean Sweep and life has returned to normal for Dina....but not for long ;) Her Inn is set to host the volatile peace talks between three warring species. Her livelihood hinges on the outcome and she ends up being pushed into a precarious position to protect her guests. This book features 4 characters as adults who were kids in The Edge series. It isn't necessary to read The Edge books before this one but you should anyway cause those books are great!Andrews manage to blend urban fantasy and science fiction so well with this series. Magic and technology don't usually go together but it's something they make work. Here they've blended the two genres without ever having one take over or feel out of place. The story doesn't follow the Whodunit style that's very often in urban fantasy books. Instead, we're following the peace talks and the very tricksy Arbitrator wreak havoc in Dina's Inn. It made for much more interesting reading within my favourite genre and I gobbled it up!

Excellent entry in the innkeeper series. It was very hard to put down when I started to read it. Lots of suspense and action. Fun characters. There was even an entry from The Edge books, George Camarine. I will read any future books in this series for sure. I have become a serious Ilona Andrews fan.

Series note: While this is book #2 in the Innkeeper Chronicles, several characters from The Edge series feature prominently.

In this installment, Dina Demille, the Innkeeper, is approached by a representative of the galactic arbitrators to host a peace summit between three waring factions. Each of the three species has its own reasons for seeking the peace accords, but finding common ground proves elusive.

While the twists and turns of the story are compelling enough, and there are some emotional as well as hilarious moments, Sweep in Peace fails to truly resonate. This may be due to my general dislike of Science-Fiction, but it is more than likely the result of two main problems. First, both the world building and the events of the previous books are unnecessarily rehashed, and second, there is virtually no character development for any of the protagonists. This is unfortunate as they are all very intriguing and there is definitely room for growth here, especially with regard to Dina and Sean's relationship, which is neglected throughout.

Despite these issues, Sweep in Peace is very well-written, and Gordon and Ilona Andrews know how to create interesting characters, compelling storylines and action packed scenarios. Hopefully the next installments will build on the solid foundation that has been established so far.

I love how Ilona Andrews makes their characters so realistic despite the story setting in a fantasy or science fiction environment. This book kept me guessing as to how Dina would save her inn, solve everyone else's problems, and discover the possibility of a relationship. The authors blend the story with jut enough romance to satisfy this reader. I immediately read the next one and anxiously await for more.

This is the second book in the Innkeeper Chronicles and I really enjoyed it. I don’t enjoy this series quite as much as the Kate Daniels series but it is still a very fun series. The plot was entertaining and basically involved Dina trying to keep three factions who have been at war forever from killing each other while they come to a peace agreement. In the midst of all this someone has stolen an emerald and someone else is out to harm Dina. The whole things turns into an absolute mess and Dina is desperate for things to work out so that her Inn can thrive.I continue to really enjoy the whole dynamic of Dina and her Inn, Gertrude Hunt. When Dina is in the Inn she is all powerful and when she is out of the Inn well, she is a bit more powerful than a standard human but not by much. We get a bit more insight into how the relationship between Dina and her Inn works and this was incredibly interesting. There is a lot of humor in here and I loved the addition of the overly dramatic chef. This series has been an odd blend of paranormal and science fiction elements that works very well. I enjoyed meeting all these new races of characters and getting a broader view of the universe through them. The plotline involving the disappearance of Dina’s parents is still here, although not much (if any) progress is made. The story stops at a good spot as well. I think the only reason that I don’t like these quite as much as the Kate Daniels book is that there is less action and Dina just isn’t quite as engaging of a character as Kate.Overall a wonderful addition to the Innkeeper series. I love the unique characters, the plot, and the interesting relationship Dina has with her Inn. There’s a lot of humor in here which makes the story a very entertaining and quick paced read. I would recommend to those who enjoy stories with a paranormal/sci-fi vibe to them. I am eager to see what happens in the next book.

Fun! A great followup to the original story (which I read as it was issued, on their blog). Dina's still struggling to build up the reputation of her inn - struggling enough that a very risky endeavor becomes worthwhile. She agrees to host a peace summit, between two groups she's encountered before and a third, new (to the readers) race. Simply hosting some 40 people at once is a stretch - trying to keep them from killing one another or damaging the inn is an extra task. One she, and her inn, have to stretch to meet - but they do it, sometimes the hard way. I hadn't realized George and his brothers (and (?)sister) were characters in another series - I'm not sure whether I'll seek them out or not, because George was quite thoroughly obnoxious here (I really hate manipulators). I figured out who the perfect warrior on Nexus was long before he showed up, though I can see why Dina missed it. And it was interesting that after introducing us to each of the three races, and letting the readers see behind the masks they hold up, that was more or less the solution for the whole peace summit. Gotta say though, basing three peoples' lives and livelihoods on a non-renewable resource doesn't sound like too brilliant an idea to me. Well, I think it's non-renewable - maybe it grows on Nexus as it doesn't elsewhere. Great story, great ending, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

I'm not quite sure how Sweep in Peace works for me, with its long monologues and descriptions, but it totally does. The story kept me in suspense from beginning to end. It has some truly hilarious moments and a few deeply heartbreaking ones. I nearly cried towards the end. There are a couple of editorial errors, but nothing huge. Overall, Sweep in Peace only confirms (as if I didn’t know already) that Ilona Andrews rocks the house. The character development and world building are just outstanding. I love the inn concept - so different and creative! I can't wait for the next Innkeeper book.

This story is intriguing, suspenseful, & I wish could be applied to warring factions today! I absolutely loved the lynx & police officer scene. I don't think that I've laughed out loud so hard as I did at the scene's pinacle. I also cried a little a few pages later. I rarely laugh out loud or weep over scenes. This is a must read and can be read alone, but I'd recommend starting with the first book.

Second book in the series taking place about 6 months after the action in the first one. Dina needs guests; it’s been awhile. Not only does she need the money, but the inn requires the energy from guests. So she’s both surprised and alarmed when an arbitrator wants to hold a summit at the inn, hoping to get three warring factions to agree to peace. He’s already been turned down by all of the other inns because the risk is too high for the reputation of the inn when you’ve got guests trying to kill each other. This will either make her or break her.Two characters coming to the summit are people we’ve met before. Arland, the vampire who is interested in her, and the Merchant she often deals with off-world, Nuan Cee. And we pick up a new interesting character when she realizes she needs a chef to feed her 40 guests.I really like Dina. The woman knows what she needs to do and she doesn’t let people get away with stuff. She’s not afraid to throw her weight around, especially when people show disrespect. And we end up with a mystery and a no-win situation to figure out and overcome. But my favorite character isn’t a character at all, but the house. Who wouldn’t want a house like that.

You know something’s gotta be awesome if I’m hitting reload on a website every day. In fact, I think I keep Ilona’s blog on a tab permanently just in case she updates. Book one was entitled Clean Sweep and was released as an e-book last year. The series is about the innkeeper of a little bed and breakfast -- which happens to serve aliens. Sweep in Peace is book two, and it’s a lot of fun.

Caldenia blinked. "Who are the attending parties?""The Holy Anocracy represented by House Krahr, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the Merchants of Baha-char. They coming here for Arbitration and they will probably try to murder each other the moment they walk through the door."Caldenia's eyes widened. "Do you really think so? This is absolutely marvelous!"She would think so, wouldn’t she?”Sweep in Peace is the second book in the Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. Dina and the Gertrude Hunt have been selected to host the Nexus Peace Summit. Nexus is a small, rugged planet inhabited by three factions. The Holy Anocracy and Hope-Crushing Horde are blood enemies who have been waging war for years with the Merchants caught in the middle. The war has carried on so long that all three sides feel they can't stop fighting yet they are so tired of watching loved ones die they will make the attempt anyway, even if things seem doomed from the beginning. Also in attendance are members from the Office of Arbitration to act as mediators for the talks. Dina definitely has her work cut out for her!The story has a more serious tone than the first book though there are still bright and funny spots to provide balance. The war's impact on the characters involved is palpable. Everyone is worn out and on the edge of despair. You would think that would make things easier, but it doesn't. There is nothing easy about these peace talks. Dina has a lot of history and cultures to navigate through in order to sort out the mess.Andrews have outdone themselves with the creativity of the species and characters. Each of the new species has their fun quirks and are all quite interesting. I loved that the Merchants are an anthropomorphic fox species and request a kitten as a pet! Caldenia is in her element as a bystander and revels in the change of pace and all the drama. One of my favorite additions to the cast is Orro, the Quillion chef. His species is like a humanoid sized hedgehog. He is over the top melodramatic, one of the top chefs in the galaxy and highly entertaining. I was sad to see what happens to Sean's character since we saw him last though I think things will get better for him. We also get to see more of the Gertrude Hunt as having a personality, which was fascinating. This was a great sequel. I'm looking forward to reading the third installment.

“What are you planning?” I asked, as we turned toward the grand ballroom.“Just a small demonstration for the public good,” he said. “I am so sorry.”“You’re apologizing in advance.”“Yes.”“Never a good sign.”Dina DeMille runs a Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town but it’s certainly far from normal. She only caters to otherworldly visitors but they are few and far between these days and her only visitor is Caldenia who is actually a permanent resident since she has a price on her head and can’t leave the grounds. When Dina is approached with a dangerous but tempting offer to host a peace summit between three warring groups, she knows that if all goes well this could end up helping the Inn more than anything. But on the other hand, if things go wrong, it could be disastrous and she could lose the Inn for good. Dina takes the chance and hopes for the best.In Sweep in Peace we get to witness the truly magical capabilities of the Inn and Dina herself and we’re introduced to a large number of new characters but most importantly is my favorite: Orro, the chef she hires to feed the massive group of people now occupying her Inn. She also gets a new cat that remains a bit of a mystery but I look forward to finding out more about him in (hopefully!) the next installment. I read Clean Sweep early last year and felt it was a fun, cozy sort of paranormal mystery. It was a bit forgettable, nothing extraordinary, and I decided that picking up the next installment wasn’t worthwhile.I’ve been crazy in the mood for Urban Fantasy lately and Sweep in Peace was literally the only one immediately available for check-out at my library so I decided what the hell. IT WAS SO GOOD. It was funny and exciting and I completely fell in love with these characters like I somehow managed to avoid doing in the first. Now I’m on hold for the third installment and the wait is interminable. That’ll teach me.“This is blasphemy!” Odalon declared in the same way Gerard Butler had once roared “This is Sparta.” Sadly, Odalon had nobody to kick into a bottomless hole for emphasis, so he settled for looking extremely put out.

I gave this audiobook a B for the story and A- for the narration at AudioGals.Narrated by Renee RaudmanSweep in Peace is a Star Wars-like urban fantasy (UF) that includes a number of creative species from other worlds. In this book in particular, there are 3 different species that are all fighting over one planet, plus a magically gifted innkeeper, an arbitrator, and a whole host of other colorful characters who join in to promote one perspective or another in this cosmic battle between those who want to continue warring and those who seek peace. Highly unique and complex in its setting, with great writing and a masterful narration to boot, Sweep in Peace has a lot to offer the UF enthusiast.Dina DeMille lives on Earth but she’s not your typical human. Instead, she runs a magical inn which is a family business her parents were involved in, although she has lost her parents and desperately hopes to find them. This inn serves as a safe haven for visitors of other species and planets while visiting Earth. It is Dina’s job as the innkeeper, a job which she uses plenty of magic to achieve, to make sure that no one gets hurt during their stay.Unfortunately, however, with the exception of one permanent guest (who has warrants out for her arrest from a number of galaxies and therefore can’t afford to leave), business has been quite dead. Dina is desperate to drum up business, so when she’s approached by an arbitrator who asks her to host a peace summit among three warring other-worldly species that no other innkeepers will host due to the dangerous risks and unlikelihood of success, she takes the booking and hopes for the best. But everything is not what it seems, and tensions are running high with priceless concerns on the line. Moreover, when a blast from the past reemerges and indentures himself to save her, she is even more motivated to find a resolution for peace at all costs. Will Dina be successful in brokering peace? And at what costs?See the full review at AudioGals.

This series was originally published as a free web serial, and it does read that way with a great deal of exposition and the occasional plot hole. But it is fun, there are space vampires, a sentient magical inn, and an innkeeper who loves her job, her apple trees, and her missing parents.

I continue to be greatly amused with this series. Particularly when Dina gets fed up and asserts her will. Oh! And the fox clan requesting tiny predators is possibly one of the funniest things I've read all year. Can't wait to see who or what comes to the inn next.

I'm a huge fan of Ilona Andrews' writing (or, at least, her Kate Daniels series) so I was inclined to like this to start with; it's a testament to her writing that I did in spite of the undercurrent of science fiction running through the storyline. I'm not sure if I should admit that my favourite character is Caldenia, but she is. She gets all the best lines and if not for the cannibalistic tendencies, she might be my literary heroine of choice. But Dina is no slouch either and while there's never any doubt she has the abilities, her overwhelming innkeeper mandate sometimes makes her a bit trod-upon, so that final scene was awesome. It's nice to see her abilities balance out; that she can be as bad as she can be good. I never doubted for a minute who Turan Adin really was, it could never have been anyone else, but I couldn't figure out how Andrews was going to explain the timing. Once she did, I was left wondering what the vampires and hoard thought about the "mysterious creature". I also thought it interesting that Andrews dropped a huge clue about Dina's brother but then never followed up on it; ditto the clue about what happened to her parents. I suppose they're saving that for book three.

When two galactic super warrior races are locked in a war they cannot win but can't abandon without dishonoring their dead and between them a race of wily merchants with access to a resource uniquely plentiful, the challenge of peace talks requires setting in an Inn, but a flourishing Inn has nothing to gain. Dina's newly reawakened Gertrude Hunt is as in need guests as Dina is of funds, so Dina agrees to host the peace talks. However; it turns out that two implacable enemies and Merchant's super weapon were the only the start of the challenges these talks face.I'd rate this a 3.25 if the granularity allowed. It keeps moving, keeps the interest going and throws in interesting curves, without resort to soppy romantic tics.

In all honesty, I didn't read the first one, but I think it is a series in the sense of recurring characters, not so much continuing story. The story is fine and somewhat unique in the genre. The story does suffer a little from convenient powers that show up at convenient times. Still worth the read.

Sweep in Peace, Ilona Andrew's eagerly awaited second installment to the Innkeeper Chronicles, proved to be another fun and refreshing story in the Urban Fantasy / Science Fiction genre. It's been over a year since we last met Dina, a magical innkeeper and the Gertrude Hunt, her magical "living" inn. She is still trying to secure more frequent guests and build the Inn's magical strength and reputation, but it's proving to be a painstakingly long process. Visitors are sparse and things are looking bleak. When Dina is approached by the Arbitrators to host a peace summit between three warring factions, the risk of failure is high. Failure would damage the Inn's reputation beyond repair, but if things are successful, all those guests would be of great magical and monetary benefit. It's a risk she has to take. I LOVE this series and the relationship between Dina and the Gertrude Hunt is so unique! Who wouldn't enjoy a sentient bed and breakfast that thrives on serving its Innkeeper and guests? Dina is an amazing character, too. She's incredibly strong and independent, yet isn't a stranger to tragedy. Her biggest hope is that one day someone will see the picture of her parents hanging on the wall and know something, anything, about their sudden disappearance. I'm eager to know more about that ongoing plot as well. The secondary characters also grabbed my attention...alien vampires anyone? There just isn't another series remotely like this one out there! As usually, this story was well thought out, witty, and highly entertaining! Sweep in Peace was definitely worth the wait!

This series is like pumpkin brownies... indulgent yet with a dollop of something healthy so I don't feel bad about gorging on it.

Anything gets too crazy, you just wave hands and say, "it's maaagic", the interactions are... simplistic? and problems quickly resolved; this is not saying that the plots are predictable from the start, though. I love having a protagonist who is NOT a ball-bashing, sword-swinging, smart ass hero-type. Nor dreaded anti-hero. Nor whimpering victim, neither.

I ignored this when it was a online serial since I knew the slow drips of the story would drive me up the wall. I enjoyed the first book and was pretty happy they continued the series. Dina is still struggling with the inn and missing Sean. An Arbitrator arrives offering her a very sweet deal if she will allow the inn to be grounds for working on a peace treaty between 3 factions. The inn needs visitors to survive so she agrees even when it looks to be an impossible task. The plus side is two of the factions are led by someone she knows but it doesn’t help the negotiations. Dina has a lot of work on her hands keeping everyone from killing each other and also keeping the neighborhood cop from finally finding out just what is going on inside her B&B.
While not necessary to have read the first book it does give more depth to the story. I’ll be looking out for the third book if they decide to do more.

4.4 I loved it but I didn't love the experience, completly. Why ? A character didn't act like I wanted him to, and there was too much detailing. Oh yeh that makes sense. LOL I wanted better for my boy George. I knew him as a sweet innocent child, I watched him grow, and loved him. It was hard to watch the man who is now so dark, left with no trace of that boy I loved. I think this is the first time I've read a book where I fell for the child and had to face the grown up they became. I did love the quirky permanent inn guest, Caldenia. What a fabulous guest she is ! Beast and the unnamed cat huge wining characters. My favorite character had to be Orro, the prickly Master Chef. He has a hotter temper than a certain TV Chef screamer we all know and watch. The story was filled with political drama, twists, and a lot of details. There were some parts I did skim over, I just didn't care about the weapon, or the military system. I'm not a stickler for little details, I'm okay with light glossing over. Sean, I was thinking where is Sean I want to see Sean again. Does he ever come back ? Big reveal, on that front. The Andrews are teases !So where is book 3 ?
