RAISON D’ÊTRE
This book takes you deeper into your raison d’être (reason for being) by examining your creative abilities, your personal power, your desires, and what makes you happy. Think about this book, in part, as providing the mental and emotional conditioning for planning a career. As a result, you will have a better chance of attaining true success and happiness in life. Self-knowledge is not just about your purpose or your why,
it actually makes you feel good.
Successful people/heroes are in touch with their raison d’être. They know they must do their inner work first before they can create an outer success story. It follows the saying, as within, so without.
And they also know that aligning purpose with work does not come from a quick fix. It is your job to do the work. You can’t employ someone to do your own sit-ups for you.
THE DEFINITION OF INSANITY
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
ALBERT EINSTEIN, physicist and Nobel Prize winner
Information and knowledge are great assets to have in our society today. And more appropriately, it is what you do with all that knowledge that counts. But it doesn’t stop there. After all, anyone with access to the internet can get all the info they want twenty-four/seven. It is also a reality that students with degrees and diplomas (sometimes multiple) are jobless or working at occupations far below their abilities. In 2012, statistically, 53 percent of graduates in the U.S. were unemployed.² So, why do people keep pursuing more education, information, and knowledge in an effort to secure employment, especially when it seems fruitless to work harder at things that don’t seem to working? This is the definition of insanity. So, if information and knowledge are not the entire solution to obtaining quality employment, what is?
Know thyself.
These words were spoken by an ancient Greek philosopher and the advice still stands today. The road to self-discovery is the most satisfying road to travel and one that brings great rewards. After all, how can you find your fit, so to speak, if you don’t know who you are trying to fit?
Traditionally, the job search has been dictated by availability in the job market. More recently, attempts have been made to match personality traits and abilities to a career focus. Yet, many people are still struggling. The old paradigm of working harder at the things we think we know doesn’t seem to be working, and the world is changing at a very fast pace. The only constant is you, wouldn’t you agree? Asking yourself these questions, Who is the real me, and how can the real me be part of the change?
is the first step.
Let’s take a look at what’s going on. You may feel a bit anxious and uncertain about that. After all, the media perpetuates a world with struggling economies, poverty thinking, global warming, death, and mayhem. You may be aware that the workplace is changing and continues to fluctuate. The norm is now favouring short-term contracts.³ Home-based, internet employment is on the rise.⁴ And statistics support that success is on the rise for small entrepreneurial businesses.⁵
You may also be aware that unemployment statistics are sky high. In fact, you probably know a number of people who have lost jobs in the last several years. Perhaps you are unemployed, under-employed, or miss-employed
(meaning you hate your job)? There seems to be endless negatives to overcome before one might even begin to think about future success.
Before you crawl back into bed with your ear buds in and give up, please try this idea on for size. Wrapped up in the chaos and upheaval in our world today is the truth that life is evolving and improving for most of us. Society has always followed a cycle of ups and downs. What is happening today has happened before… mankind survived. What is taking place is actually a miracle; a change for the better. Systems in our society that no longer work are collapsing. This is good news! Many of the old financial, corporate, and government systems have failed because they were not sustainable. As you may be aware, the world has experienced the collapse of entire countries’ economic systems. Those systems were likely based on greed, separation, and competition, and are slowly being replaced with more cooperative and collaborative models. At this point, you may be asking if there is enough money to sustain you and everyone else in the world. Good question, and I believe there is.
This leads us to another truth about life, one that is not fully accepted yet: there is enough to go around. There is more than enough money and resources for everyone, but many refuse to believe that. The world is truly abundant. And further, you have the potential to tap into all it has to offer. How you choose to look at life dictates what you see. The fearful information above encodes our filter as to how we see the world. Seeing life differently is a choice—a choice to rise above our conditioning and what we are influenced to believe. My goal is to inspire you to view life in another way, and should you choose to bite, a whole new world will open up for you. You will begin to live in a place where you can have, be, and do anything that you want…and truly believe it.
If you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right.
HENRY FORD, founder – Ford Motor Company
