1000 Japanese Flash Cards - Kevin Marx

How to Study and Use this Book

This e-book contains 1000 of the most common Japanese words. They are organized into three sections. The first section consists of question words, common phrases, and pronouns. The second section contains the most common nouns, verbs, and adjectives, all listed in alphabetical order in English. The final section contains vocabulary related to numbers and time. If you are looking for a specific phrase, please use the search function on your device.

If you are a diligent student, you should be able to study about ten words a day. To get the most out of each study session, read the words and sentences out loud as you study them, in both English and Japanese. Practice saying each word out loud at least ten times. The more often you study, the easier it will be to recall the words, so it is recommended that you study at least three times a day. This means you should have said each vocabulary word out loud thirty times in one day. At the end of each day, try to make your own sentence using the new vocabulary words that you learned that day. If you can't make your own sentence, simply practice reading the example sentences provided once more.

You brain will play tricks on you, and you may begin to memorize the order of the words as they appear in this e-book, so it is important to mix the order up. Do the odd words. Do the even words. Do the words backwards. Say everything out loud.

Notes on the format of the cards:

The format of the vocabulary will be: the target word in English, followed by an example sentence with the target word in bold. The next page will have Japanese pronunciation using the Alphabet in italics, followed by the word using the Japanese writing system, followed by the [kanji] in brackets if one is available. Some words have a kanji but are usually written with only kana. If this is the case, you will see a (UK) next to the word. This means usually kana. The Japanese example sentences will be written first in italics with the Alphabet, then using the Japanese system without kanji, and then finally the sentence as it would normally appear with kanji, as well as the target word in bold.

Verbs

Ichidan verbs will be noted with an (I), godan verbs that appear to be ichidan will be noted with (G).

Adjectives

Na-Adjectives will be noted with (Na). No-Adjectives that aren't obviously nouns will be noted with (No).
