Names: BCG growth-share matrix, BCG-matrix, Product Portfolio Matrix, Boston matrix, Boston Consulting Group analysis, portfolio diagram. Its name comes from the Boston Consulting Group, an international strategy consultancy company, which conceptualised the matrix.
Uses: It is primarily used by managers who want to observe the relative importance of the activities in their portfolio. It provides advice for the portfolio by encouraging the investment, maintenance or removal of activities.
