We are moving to the deep, deep digital dynamic, hopefully, we are also moving from the Industrial Age to the Digital Era with the abundance of wisdom slowly and steadily. The purpose of Digital Valley - Five Pearls of Wisdom to Make Profound Influence is to guide digital leaders and professionals to understand the multidimensional digital wisdom in making fair judgments and sound decisions on the daily basis, also, inspire them to make a profound positive influence on both professional career and personal life. If knowledge is concrete, intelligence is contextual, and then wisdom is abstract and wider, with the following dimensions:

    •   Creative Wisdom is about thinking beyond conventional wisdom; thinking things differently and making imagination roll into reality.

    •   Strategic Wisdom is the application of knowledge and intelligence to solve problems with long term perspectives.

    •   System Wisdom is the ability to think conceptually on the higher level, to see the forest for the trees.

    •   Decision Wisdom has to do with the soundness of judgment. It takes wisdom, not just the intelligence to make better decisions.

    •   Culture wisdom is the type of intelligence for tolerance of ambiguity, mastery of cultural cognition, learning agility, handling complexity, and gaining empathy.

Wisdom is wider and intelligence is narrow: Wisdom is broader and abstract, and knowledge is narrow and detailed. Wisdom comes through the result of life experience or knowledge transcendence. Knowledge helps you figure out HOW - the practices; and wisdom guides you through WHY - the principles. Wisdom is the ultimate human intelligence -timeless and wordless, to unify and harmonize. Wisdom is something gained through experience, people around, self-seeking, environment etc. Intelligence has to do with the ability to learn and retain knowledge, wisdom has to do with the ability to apply what has been learned. Wisdom overtakes intelligence. Knowledge pertains to knowing and to intelligence while wisdom has to do with the soundness of judgment. Many people do wrong things, not because of ignorance, but because of poor judgment. It is imperative to identify what causes manifestly intelligent people so frequently make such poor decisions. Wisdom is to be understood within this context, wisdom is the ability to learn from every experience, to be able to gather small bits of information from all sources, and apply that to current or future challenges.

Wisdom is the full learning cycle: Learning, unlearning and relearning. Wisdom is not knowledge; one cannot have wisdom without knowledge, but one cannot substitute wisdom for knowledge as well. More often, learning knowledge is focused on one track, knowing more and more about less and less; but wisdom is multidimensional, open and circular. There is a hidden and growing imbalance in the human mind that results from the contrasting nature of the progressing intellect and stagnant instincts. If knowledge is gained from learning, insight is captured from re-learning, and then wisdom is a full set of learning, unlearning and relearning. Wisdom is a full awareness of the situation and applying it right. Wisdom mainly consists of having experience and yet knowing when to discard that experience, when you come across new knowledge, new frontiers to existing knowledge. Plus an open mind. Wisdom is a function of knowing what you don’t know and keeps curiosity to know more. Knowledge tends to be linear, but wisdom is multidimensional.

The ultimate aim of learning knowledge is to gain wisdom: There is known known, known unknown and unknown unknown. To know what we don’t know is knowledge. We become intelligent or informative by knowing what we don’t know, and then we capture insight from the static knowledge and apply it to varying disciplines. Every bit of knowledge we acquire should either increase our confidence, or better our judgment or then do both. We have a limited bandwidth and hence choose to pursue knowledge that will benefit us in some way - an eminently logical choice. However, being knowledgeable shouldn’t become an obstacle to stop you from continuous learning, unlearning and relearning; or make your brain too saturated to be free or flexible; or only boost your ego, not grow your character. Ultimately the knowledge and insight can be abstracted into human wisdom which can be shared broadly and timelessly, also makes one humble enough to admit known unknown and unknown unknown.

Chapter 1 Creative wisdom: Creativity is a higher level of thinking which could leads to wisdom because it often imposes a higher cognitive load as you think ‘harder’ and consciously use different kinds of thought processes and thinking tools like association, perspective shifting, opposites etc., when you are wanting to come up with a creative solution to a challenge. A certain mental, psychological and conditional chemistry is needed to break-away from thoughts that others have thought about. So creativity appears to be beyond the conventional thinking - where you have left the confines of other people’s thoughts. Creativity is context - dependent, so it could mean a type of contextual intelligence.

Chapter 2 Strategic wisdom: Strategic Thinking is the ability to think on a temporal plane. Strategic Thinking is about where you are, where you want to be, identify the gap and create the alternate approaches to anticipate and provide solutions. Strategic Thinking is more about making decisions directly towards achieving defined outcomes as a purposive activity, so it is the keep the end in mind thought process. It is the wisdom because the strategy is often the guide and roadmap to navigate us toward the right direction.

Chapter 3 System Wisdom: Systems Thinking is a way of understanding complexity. Systems Thinking by definition is a cognitive thinking process, a profound thinking process to embrace holism and nonlinearity. Systems Thinking is a type of synthetic thinking with a complex mix of several components, typically it includes: Dynamic Thinking (positioning your issue as part of a pattern of behavior that has developed over time); Scientific Thinking (using models to test hypotheses and discard falsehoods, not just to ascertain ‘the truth’); Cause-effective Thinking (constructing a model to explain how the problem behavior arises); ‘Forest’ Thinking (seeing the ‘big picture’ and taking a more holistic view of that system); Analytical Thinking (analyzing how things actually work, the cause and effect relationships), and Quantitative’ Thinking: (quantifying not just the hard data but also the soft variables that are operating in the system).

Chapter 4 Decision wisdom: The majority of leaders and professional spend a significant amount of time on making large or small decisions in the work and life. It takes wisdom (and often collective wisdom) to make effective decisions. There is fuzziness in the decision because there is fuzziness in conflicting criteria. At the digital era, making data-based decisions means to leverage analytical thinking, advanced analytic tools, the human’s intuition, and add the wisdom in the decision process to improve the overall effectiveness of decision making.

Chapter 5 Culture wisdom: The definition of culture is the mindsets, attitudes, feelings, values and behaviors that characterize and inform a group and its members. From business perspective, culture is the way how we think and do things around here, it is the collective mindset; with the trend of digitalization and globalization, culture wisdom is the type of intelligence for tolerance of ambiguity, a set of capabilities for cultural cognition, learning agility, handling complexity, communicating virtually, and working across cultures with flexibility. Therefore, culture intelligence becomes more critical for digital leaders and professional to work in today’s multi-generational, multicultural and multi-devicing work environment, it is the wisdom to bring understanding and workforce harmony.

Cleverness is not wisdom. -Euripides Wisdom is on how to dig into root cause or hunt for essentials; wisdom is the guide for the purpose, progress, and change the world for better. The power of wisdom overcomes the barriers; the shallow of cleverness creates the new problems. Wisdom is multi-dimensional pursuit: cleverness is a single layer of understanding; wisdom is a perception, cleverness is what you see; it’s not what you see matter, it’s what you perceive. Wisdom speaks of nature; cleverness appreciates artifact; wisdom is a substance, and cleverness is a style. Leadership is an influence, influence is from wisdom.

    Chapter 1 Creative Wisdom

The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeing new landscapes, but in having new eyes, in seeing the universe through the eyes of another, of hundreds of others, in seeing the hundreds of universes that each of them sees. ~ Marcel Proust

    Figure 2 Creative Wisdom

Creativity is about thinking beyond conventional wisdom. Creativity is expressive, productive, inventive, innovative, and emergent. Creative Thinking is unique and original than many other types of thinking: some are the habit, repetition of memory, the way of least resistance, emotional reaction, social conformity, approval seeking, dogmatism, pedanticism, following, mendacity. Every one of us has creative strength. Creative strength comes close to staying power or stamina. Some have strength in ‘thinking’ - generating ideas and options, reframing issues or queries in the pursuit of novelty. People who ‘think’ differently can help to complement different viewpoints, the ability to bend and try to understand other people’s perspective without losing self, produce a wide range of options, and manage better solutions. Other people excel at ‘seeing,’ or observing - spotting interesting challenges and opportunities, trend surfing or noticing the significant details that others do not. People who ‘see,’ or more precisely perceive, can help to identify how, when and why you need to be creative. Some other people are great at ‘acting’ - they take thoughts and notions and figure out a plan, consider the logistics and make ideas a reality. People who ‘do’ help to build a bridge between the concept and the concrete. Everyone has a creative potential that can be expressed through artistic and scientific creativity. It begins with the existence of a problem that needs solving! Creativity is the #1 skill needed in the digital age.

    1. Creativity Manifesto

    Creativity is a Beautiful Phenomenon!

    Figure 3 Creativity Manifesto

We tend to equate artistic with creative and they can go together although not necessarily. Creativity seems to be the free flow of life force energy. It is a wellspring we can learn to tap, or to untap if a beaver has dammed up the flow. Creativity flourishes in solitude. With quiet courage, you can hear your thoughts, you can reach deep within yourself, and you can focus. It’s not difficult being creative, it’s difficult for you to be understood by others most of the times. The inspiration happens, but it’s so bright and electric, it may take a lot of work on the creative’s part to communicate with the public or audience. Connections can be spelled out. Analogies can be noted. Creative people always see possibility in the world, when most people only see the way that they have been told. The creativity processes so many connections that depend on unusual analogies and chains of thought that the thoughts might be completely new. Chains of thought that can lead to those inspirations can be told as stories. But not each of these needs is always included in the creative’s repertoire of skills.

Creativity is the ability to create novel value, creative mind is defined as the originator.

All humans are born with raw creativity ability, but not all creativities are created equal.

Creativity needs a problem, and the creative person needs a purpose.

Creativity is infused with an inner cohesion, and comes from a vision of uniqueness.

Creative person’s spirit and soul dance with passion and imagination.

Creativity has many dimensions, with multi-faceted truth & myth and manifold knowledge.

Creativity muscle needs to be strengthened, and creativity excellence needs to be cultivated.

Creativity adds signature or aesthetic that elevates passion to purpose and fancy to enchantment.

Creativity needs encouragement as food, and conflict to spark it.

Creativity is wings of our mind, creative destruction could be your professional style in 21th Century!

    2. The Creative State of Mind

The creative mind is a type of ultra-modern mindsets to push the human world forward.

Figure 4 The Creative State of Mind

As the world stepped into the hyper-connected digital era, the ultra modern mindsets need to be crafted in continuous driving mankind progression and spurring the next level of innovation. Creativity today asks for a new mindset, a connected world image, global consciousness, and cognitive intelligence; allowing the creative flow to open up for information abundance. The creative state of mind may not bound to any one ‘mindset’ but should be free to be expressed wherever it may pop up, if that makes sense, it has the following characteristics:

    •   An open mind: or simply openness to finding connections between experiences, people, things, ideas, etc., and making literally or figuratively something new from those insights. All snowflakes have different patterns.cool..metaphorically speaking, all snowflakes received are valid and held sacred. Start with a completely open and untainted mind.

    •   A possible mind: A childlike state, anything is possible. By definition an idea is Possible, that is a step beyond Plausible, and it does take a mind geared toward innovation to take the concept from plausible to possible. Innovation requires a broad Thought/Action Menu, and the groups and companies that work to enable that type of environment to do better. Innovation is mainly the process to make impossible possible.

    •   A desirable mind: Desire is the spearhead to motivation, which in turn creates the mind to wonder how to make your mission of change possible. It is the recognition that something is missing or something needs to be enhanced to get to the satisfaction level that you need or want. If you want to create a genuine innovation, which means that you can offer a solution that is not only an improvement of a former solution but a completely new view of approaching the solution. A desire mind is a necessary element of motivation to transform inward driven creativity into outward driven innovation.

    •   A fresh mind: It is a balance between what you know and not letting what you know hinder you in the discovery of a new innovation. You have to empty your mind of how things are usually solved. Then use techniques of seeing things in different perspectives: think upside down, inside out, think small, think big, etc. Overly-structured processes and preconceived truths are barriers to innovation. Avoid the History of Success trap; unclog your memory from old knowledge.

    •   A learning mind: Learning is necessary for innovation. It’s how you let it affect your innovative mind state via continuous information digestion and dynamic synthesis. But, it doesn’t have to be muddy your innovation if you are aware that it can, and you refuse to let it box you in. A state of learning mind is a growth mind, to allow knowledge flow, transform static knowledge into deep insight, and ultimate wisdom as well.

    •   A ‘disruptive’ mind: innovation is the result of some kind of disruption, innovation can be defined as the collision between different perspectives, internal programming, mind-states of possibility and necessity and thought patterns that result in creative ideas and solutions. Essentially, innovation is a type of creative disruption.

    •   A connecting mind: The mind for innovation is also a mind which is free of psychological inertia. The mind needs to be freed so that it’s connected to the rest of the universe and allows ideas to flow through. Every problem that we face has a similar or analogous problem in past…in some other industry, geography…or in a leading area. One just needs to find that existing solution and adapt it to the current problem.

The creative state of mind means, even more, things. It is about the differentiating eyesight between what we have and what we want, the attitude:- this is not good enough, resiliency- nothing gets me down, persistence- I will not stop pursuing this, and the inner need to feel we can do better than the status quo/competition. It is the ultra-modern mind that keeps flowing to push the human world forward.

    3. Is Creativity a High Level of Thinking

Thinking things differently and making imagination roll into reality is creativity

Creativity is a relatively new word invented by a polish author in the 17th century - referring to poetry. Since then, knowledge has exploded, and creativity is defined more broadly as a mind skill (Static subject) or a process (Dynamic meaning) equipping us to make any new idea in any area. The range of scholarly interest in creativity includes a multitude of definitions and approaches involving several disciplines; psychology, cognitive science, education, philosophy, technology, theology, sociology, linguistics, business studies, songwriting and economics, taking in the relationship between creativity and general intelligence, mental and neurological processes associated with creativity, the relationships between personality type and creative ability., etc (Wikipedia).

    •   Creativity is about thinking beyond conventional wisdom: Creative thinking is unique and original, many other types of thinking are not..some are the habit, repetition of memory, the way of least resistance, emotional reaction, social conformity, approval seeking, dogmatism, pedanticism, following, mendacity. A certain mental, psychological and conditional chemistry is needed to break-away from thoughts that others have thought about.
