About this ebook

Ted Koppel is well known for his role as a television news broadcaster from Nightline News, but he is also the author of Lights Out. In this book Koppel talks about what would happen to the United States if there was ever an attack on the electrical power distribution grid. An attack of this magnitude has never yet happened on American soil but if it did, Koppel wants the public to know what the consequences would be. It has been reported that much of the current electrical power grid has an infrastructure that has not been updated in many years. In addition to this, there is also a serious lack of security in place to make sure that an attack on the electrical distribution system does not take place.

The majority of Americans today rely a great deal on the use of electricity and the power grid. The United States electronic power grid is not owned and controlled by one entity. This grid consists of multiple private operators who are primarily motivated by profit, and because of this they do not have much incentive to install safety precautions such as security systems. Koppel believes that this scenario causes the electrical power grid to be an easy target for enemies with bad intentions.

History shows that the amount of attacks that have taken place on government institutions, financial sectors, corporations, and even individuals have been increasing over the recent years.
