Winter in America: The Social and Moral Decline of a Great Nation
()
About this ebook
With a focus on social and moral issues that have created decline, decay, apathy, dreariness and adversity in America, Winter in America covers a number of major issues such as racism, sexism, the educational system, greed and parenting issues.
The author cautions that the love of power, greed, evilness and control must be cast away and replaced with love and respect, despite our differences, in order for us to transition into a season of warmth. When love replaces the love of power we will see this long period of winter dissipate and evolve into an America that reflects its creed and becomes an even greater nation.

WINTER …a period like winter, as the last or final period of life; a period of decline, decay, inertia, dreariness, or adversity. — Dictionary.com
At the end of 360 degrees, Winter is a metaphor: a term not only used to describe the season of ice, but the period of our lives through which we are travelling. In our hearts we feel that spring is just around the corner: a spring of brotherhood and united spirits among people of color. Everyone is moving, searching. There is a restlessness within our souls that keeps us questioning, discovering and struggling against a system that will not allow us space and time for fresh expression. Western icemen have attempted to distort time. Extra months on the calendar and daylight saved what was Eastern Standard. We approach winter the most depressing period in the history of this industrial empire, with threats of oil shortages and energy crises. — Gil Scott Heron
CHAPTER 1
Winter in America
The greatest human need is love.
— Anonymous
There is a spirit like winter that conveys a decline in human values, decay, dreariness and adversity in America today. With mass murders in our schools and public venues, the disregard of morals, human life, and the institution of marriage, a winter like storm has created an environment that is hazardous and damaging to its people.
Amidst racial tension and scam artists steadily on the rise, the miseducation of our children; with priests, ministers and religious officials molesting and raping young children; people placing judgment on one another because they disagree; the strong oppositions to gun laws by civic leaders, entertainers and the wealthy has helped expand the sale of illegal guns in our cities which has created a war zone in once thriving neighborhoods; with a political party that is obstructive and more concerned about seeing the country’s first African American president fail rather than helping the country to recover from the worst recession since the Great
