      The Background

      I had gotten an email about an event called Awesomeness Fest and I really wanted to go. I wanted to take my mom because I wanted her to meet with some of the people there to help her business. My mom works so hard and knows everything about everything. I mean, really. She was cool before the word cool meant cool. I think she invented it. My mom had ideas and raised me and my siblings in a way that is just now starting to be popular. When she did it, it was challenging and she was mostly alone. This makes her very strong and I love that about my mom. It makes me want to be strong too because she is my role model and my hero.

      One third of Awesomeness Fest participants are professional speakers. These are the kind of people who speak at TED events, write bestselling books and start award-winning companies. And yet they come to Awesomeness Fest not only to speak, but to connect and listen. This is what makes Awesomeness Fest truly unique and exactly why I needed to get my mom there.

      Besides, the event was created by a company called Mind Valley. Mind Valley builds businesses that innovate on transformational education for all ages, through mediums that range from digital publishing, educational technology, online learning, mobile apps, content, events and more. They stand for ideas that enable people to be extraordinary and impact lives. Founded in 2003 by Vishen Lakhiani, they are a team of 200 people from over 35 countries, working across a wide range of inter-related businesses that are dedicated towards pushing humanity forward through reforming global education.
