Hello! I'm Sugar

About this ebook
Sugar has been a part of human lives for many generations. This book presents a narrative from sugar's own perspective, based on its own observations of human behaviour throughout its long history. From its humble beginnings in serene natural sugarcane groves, sugar's fate changed dramatically as soon as humans discovered it as a rich source of sweetness for their food and drinks. Thus began sugar's arduous, love-hate relationship with humans, who went on to plant and harvest them at a growing scale, to be consumed and sold among humans.
As time progressed, sugar's adventures at the hands of humans had brought it to many distant lands, with diverse and ever-changing cultures. However, before long, what started off as an adventure of sweetness and love, quickly became a journey fraught with pain and suffering, which led it to reach out to its human friends.
Nur Wafea Syahrul Sazli
The author was born in April, 2003 in a middle-class family in Selangor. Her name ‘Nur Wafea’ was given with a hope that one day she will grow into a caring and empathetic person. Being a middle child in her family, she was considered quite a mature child from a very young age. Even though she started to speak quite late, on exactly her 2nd birthday, she quickly spoke very well, in proper full sentences, starting from that day.She started her early education at 4 years old in Ana Montessori just a few miles away from her home. She continued her primary education at Sri Ayesha Islamic School (SAIS) in her hometown. Upon completing her UPSR and PSRA, she decided to continue her study in SAIS under Dar-Izzah class, using IGCSE curriculum, and now she is in grade 8.At home, she is a cheerful child surrounded by caring and loving family members. One particular routine of hers during every breakfast and dinner time is listening in (and sometimes chiming in!) to long ancient stories and discussions between her Tok Ayah and her Papa, on a range of historical and current issues. In her own personal time however, she loves to read books especially encyclopedia and biographies. She also loves to watch National Geographic, BBC Earth and Travel channel, particularly shows covering on environmental issues and the animal kingdom. At her free time, she loves to sketch and draw anything which interests her at the time. She is also learning piano and just passed her grade 3 exam. She loves to practice her music skills with her siblings, whom will play other musical instruments and sing along with her. She also has ‘green fingers’ too! She loves to help her mom in their own little garden beside their house.Writing is a new skill that she just acquired, perhaps from all her life experiences and readings that she went through so far. Even though she does not have a firm ambition yet of what she wants to do when she grow up, she is now considering journalist and writer as one of the options.

Foreword
by Dato’ (Dr.) Anwar Fazal
This book is about one of the world’s greatest love stories and also one of its greatest health tragedies. It is a moving story narrated with frankness, truth and with passion by Sugar
itself.
A beautiful gift of nature, Sugar
was abused by humankind, distorted by cruel growing and processing leading to global exploitation, massive slavery and destruction of environment. Corporations hungry for profit abused its joyful sweetness to get people addicted and manipulated. This has led to one of the greatest health tragedies in history which includes diabetes, obesity and even tooth decay.
This book is beautifully written and simply but powerfully illustrated. It is a
