GRE Reading Comprehension: Detailed Solutions to 325 Questions is part of the Test Prep Series by Vibrant Publishing. This series has guides for GRE, GMAT and SAT preparation. This version is specifically about the reading comprehension section of the GRE exam. The book starts with a thorough introduction to the GRE exam, with FAQ and helpful test taking tips and strategies. Next it describes the reading comprehension section in more detail, explaining the types of questions included. There are also detailed and specific strategies for answering the specific type of multiple choice questions found in this section. At the end of the book is an answer key with detailed explanations of each question. I do exam and study prep with secondary and post secondary students and was interested in another resource to help them with multiple choice questions. I haven’t specifically helped students prepare for the GRE, but the information presented specific to that exam seems helpful. For students that I work with, I think the general tips on exam taking, and multiple choice questions in particular, will be very useful. There are hundreds of questions sorted by subject area which will be helpful for students needing to practice understanding passages, and answering multiple choice questions in the subjects they wish to focus on. The variety of questions also will allow me to find questions suitable to the level at which my students are working. There is a clear description of the two major types of multiple choice questions. It would have been helpful to specifically point out the different shapes used for the letters for the answer choices to differentiate between the question types. The book would be more useful in paperback rather than ebook form, since flipping back and forth between the questions and the answer key is more challenging in ebook format. Some of the answers do not include summaries of the passages but most do. I would recommend this book for students preparing for the GRE, as well as anyone studying for, or helping a student prepare for, secondary or postsecondary exams.
