Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight international development goals th at all 193 United Nations member states

and at least 23 international organizati ons have agreed to achieve by the year 2015 1. eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, 2. achieving universal primary education, 3. promoting gender equality and empowering women 4. reducing child mortality rates, 5. improving maternal health, 6. combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, 7. ensuring environmental sustainability, and 8. developing a global partnership for development Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite statistic used to rank countries by level of "human development", taken as a synonym of the older terms "standard o f living" and/or "quality of life", and distinguishing "very high human developm ent", "high human development", "medium human development", and "low human devel opment" countries. HDI was devised and launched by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq, followed by Indian economist Amartya Sen in 1990.[1] The HDI is a comparat ive measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, and standards of living of a country. It is a standard means of measuring well-being, especially child welf are. It is also used to distinguish whether the country is a developed, a develo ping or an underdeveloped country, and also to measure the impact of economic po licies on quality of life.
